I think I liked it more than my 9 year-old son. Wasn't expecting to like it, but it had an oddly compelling narrative. Rawly stole the show: couldn't ask for a sweeter friend. The older brother also notable. Good pacing. Not sure what the journalist saw in the protagonist: he came off mainly as a jerk, barely redeemed in the end. Of all the films I have to go to with my kids, I would recommend this one to the parents as well.

I was pleasantly surprized at how good the movie was. I was not looking forward to taking my 9 yr old son after seeing the trailers. He read all the books and was thrilled with the adaptation to the silver screen.

My boys loved the books and we debated how the move would fare. Overall, we found it fairly entertaining. The characters weren't as humorous as Jeff Kinney's stick figures, but still quite funny.

I haven't read the books, but my son loves them and was SO excited when he started seeing the previews for this movie. I have to admit that I wasn't that excited about going to see YET ANOTHER kid's movie, but atleast this one wasn't going to be animated. I was happily surprised! This was a REALLY good movie that actually contained a moral story. I took my 8 year old son and his best friend and they were both glued to the screen, as was I! I remember middle school (Junior High) and it was not a fun time for me. In fact, I identified with Greg and at times with Rowley. I think every child needs to learn that it's not about who you are or how popular you are or even who your friends are, but about the kind of friends you have and how you treat each other that matters the most. This is by far one of the best kid's movies I've seen in a long time. I might just have to sit down a read the book...or all of them.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This movie was great. I took my sons and nephew ages 11, 9 and 7, and we cracked up all night long. My oldest son and nephew have read the books so they knew what to expect. Very good movie. That will be one for the collection when it comes out on DVD.

My son who is 9 years old has read all of the Diary of a Whimpy Kid books and couldn't wait until this movie came out. In fact he reads them over and over again as he can read 1 or 2 books in a day. He thoroughly enjoyed this movie and it was neat to be able to share in the laughter and "meet the characters" that he is always ready about. Now I can relate to his stories and know who he is referring to when he tells me about something in the books! Great movie to watch with your kids and I especially like the lesson that it gives at the end!

I rarely get into the movies my kids watch, other than laughing at the occassional double entendres slipped into most animated films these days. BUT, this was a surprisingly good movie. t Took my 8-year old son and we both had a wonderful time. I actually found myself jealous that I hadn't read all of the books (as he has....several times!). Anyone who is currently (or has ever been) in Middle School can totally relate and have a great time with this movie. P.S. Since you read this review....you now have the Cheese Touch!!! :-D

I thought it was a pretty cute movie and pretty clean also. I too was not super excited about the boob mag. It is hard enough to keep our boys pure in the world we live in......but other than that, it was a cute movie. If your kids have read the books, you should take them to the movie. My boys loved it!

My son has read all of these books and he couldn't wait for the movie! I took him and 5 of his friends to see it for my son's 11th birthday. They all loved it! I thought it was well done and it certainly addressed certain issues for kids of that age. Although, my son and his friends said that the movie didn't follow the book exactly! Overall, I think it is appropriate for kids between the ages of 9-12.

My 9 year old daughter and her friend were sooo excited the movie was coming out and we went on opening day...the movie did not disappoint. Although it focuses on middle school, it translated well to younger ages and the family dynamics were amusing. The girls were happy with the movie in relation to the books.

i took my daughter, wife, and nephew. My daughter looked forward to seeing the movie. I thought it was funny and very clean. I did think some of the scene transition did not flow very well. I read the books to my boys, ages 3, 5 and 7. I don't like the moron and idiot-type references, but was disappointed that in the movie Greg uses the word "Crap." It was really not neccessary. Ditto with the boobalicious motorcycle magazine cover. Don't recall that being in the book, and really, really not necessary for a movie targeting little boys (let's try to keep them little as long as possible, kay?)
Other than that, my oldest was very upset that the movie "left out a lot of stuff" but it was a good lesson for him to learn that the book is ALWAYS better than movie. I really hope there will be more Wimpy Kid movies, just without the sex and border-line profanity.

I'm a 41 year old male. I brought my family to the theater to watch Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
My 9 yo daughter liked it but thought it was boring.
My 6 yo son loved it. Everytime I looked at him, he was grinning ear to ear.
My wife liked it but said it went too long at times.
I enjoyed the entire movie. It was fun. Made me laugh.

This was a very well made movie with very good actors. It was funny, entertaining and stayed close to the book. My husband and I had some really good laughs and both of our children ages 8 and 10, enjoyed the movie so much they didn't want it to end. They have both read the books, and could appreciate the plot line and humor in the movie. My 10 year old definitely identified with it more since she will be entering middle school next school year. Is it for younger children ages 5-7? No, probably not, they will get some laughs, but may not understand the full breadth of humor or fully grasp the social complexities of being older or an adolescent.
