Took my 10 year old son, and both he and I enjoyed it. I thought it was entertaining, and my son realy liked it a lot. He's looking forward to the second one Roderick Rules coming out sometime in the future. I would reccommend this movie purely because it's a perfect 10 year old's mentality type of movie.

Took two 10yr old boys who had read all the books multiple times and almost completely memorized them... They gave the movie a 6 and the books a 9. They didn't like the movie to deviate from the books as much as it did.
Personally I thought the movie definitely has its funny and educational moments but it somehow never really captures my full attention. I think I can count the number of times the whole theatre (and it was packed!) burst out laughing on one hand.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I have wanted to take my son to this movie since I first saw it was coming out, he has read all the books multiple times. I was very impressed with this movie and my kids loved it. It really shows alot of things teenage boys go through when it comes to Middle School. I believe that it was a little more suited for a young male crowd rather than the females. But I they would like it as well.

Took my daughter to the latest showing, 9:30pm. The earlier show was packed. This showing was perfect for the 9 and up crowd. Made her feel like a big kid going to a "late" show!
She loved the movie. I give it a solid 8. Already looking forward to the next book being made into a movie. I think they are onto something!! Realistic in a good sense.

My husband and I took our 9yr old daughter, 3 of her friends, and my 6 year old son. My daughter has read all of the books and she thought the movie was a good interpretation. She hardly ever laughs aloud during any movie/comedy, but she was bursting with laughter. My husband and I were uncontrollably laughing . . . cracking our sides with tears rolling . . . maybe we don't get out enough. The movie was hilarious for all ages. I can only imagine how good it would have been if we weren't on the first row, since the theater was packed and we were a party of 7.

I took my two boys 12 and 8 and a friend who was also 8. They liked the movie and made reference to the characters associated with the book series. I enjoyed the childhood humor as an adult. This movie has some examples of everyday senarios that preteens have to deal with in middle school.

I took my eight-year-old son who has read all the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. We have been looking forward to the release of the movie, had the date on our calender and went the night it was released. It was well worth the anticipation. Absolutely hilarious. My son and I both cracked up throughout. This movie ended up sending a good message in the end. About true friendship and about the things that truly matter in life. Would highly, highly recommend it!

True to the book, the movie was funny and had a good moral story. My boys both loved the movie, and I'm glad we went to see it in the theaters. I wish they had spent a bit more time in the story showing what Greg learned about himself and showing him making up for being a lousy friend to Rowley in the beginning...but that was not the story. Again, I am glad that, since we spent the money, we saw this movie. It didn't disappoint! Funny movie; good for the family to watch together! :)

I went to Diary of a Wimpy Kid w/my 7 year old—who reads on a 3rd grade level. He's not the typical 1st grader. He was already a fan, but the movie to him deserved 500,000 stars.
Greg's family was a typical REAL family. Their interactions were believable and all too real when his older brother Roddrick kept getting him into trouble.
Greg's entrance into middle school brought back a lot of memories for me and probably instilled a lot of anxiety for my son. Without giving anything away, the school scenes were funny and the timing was dead on.
Greg's relationship with his best friend Rolly is poignant. It makes you remember how difficult being 12 was.
In the end, it was a great movie to watch—especially with your kids.

My 10 year old boy thought it was funny and "awesome". My 8 year old boy liked it but felt it wasn't much (enough) like the book. My 5 year old daughter was out of place, obviously! My hubby and I found it amusing and laughed out loud several times. Looking BACK on those awkward years is much more funny than living through them, haha. I thought the torturous older brother was spot on, too.

My 9 year old begged me to take him to this movie from the day he heard it would be released. He had read all the books and loves them. We went on the 1st showing day. I admit I was surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did. The humor was appropriate for my son but something adults (who remember middle school) could relate to as well. My son said he really hopes they make a movie for all the books. I do too!

Great laughs for the family. Great messages for kids. Wasn't crazy about adding some random intellectual girl to the cast, but I guess that's part of adapting a book to a movie? It felt unnecessary, though. The movie followed the books pretty closely which my boys have read and loved. All in all, totally happy and would see it again!! :)

I took my three sons(7,11 and 12) to this movie and we all really enjoyed it. My two older boys had read all the books, the youngest hadn't read any and I had read part of the first book. When I saw the trailer I thought that the actor who played Greg looked too young for the part, but the actor in the movie changed my mind - he was very convincing in the role. The book was a little better than the movie IMO. But they did a pretty good job adapting it to the big screen.
I liked that Greg redeemed himself in the end, but it wasn't sickeningly sweet. Rawly was great. I loved his innocence. I also liked the message that as important as everything seems in middle school (and high school, for that matter) , none of it matters in the real world.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I took my 8 and 9 year old boys to see this movie and it was a nice night out. It is pretty well written with some funny, witty moments that will remind us all of that awkward time of middle school or junior high. My kids love the books and there were definitely correlations to them in the movie. Job well done!
