I took my 11 yr old son and a few of his friends to see this. All of us (including myself) have read the book. As an adult I thought this movie was very funny. It brought back so many memories of Middle School.

I took my 4 yr old great nephew to see this delightful movie. He really enjoyed it and it provided several "teachable" moments. Very family friendly even though it had a PG rating.

Only go see this movie if you can't find anything else to see. When my wife and I find a movie we really like, we will go back and see it again and again until it is out of the theaters. This is not one of those movies.
The one line I liked in the movie was when one of the girls said, "After middle school, there's high school and after that is life, and none of this will matter." Even though I was a wimpy kid, I don't remember Jr High (as we called it then) being any kind of a dreadful experience as these kids had. If I were a wimpy kid now, anticipating going into middle school, this movie would terrify me. But that was then, maybe middle school now is as terrifying as this movie portrays it but I would think twice about taking little kids.

I took my 10-year old son to see this yesterday and we both enjoyed it. I think I laughed more than he did even. The actors were great and the movie brought back memories of those awkward early teenage years. The movie taught an important lesson about friendship while being entertaining at the same time. I would recommend this as a wonderful family movie that everybody can enjoy.

Its was ok sort of movie. If you have appropriate aged kids you can take them, especially if they had read and liked the book.
I wish the director took the opportunity and added more positive feel good factors instead of trying to stay close to the book as much as possible. In my opinion movies have more powerful impact than a book, especially for kids.
I felt some scenes might give negative messages and kids might think that such thing is kool. Anyways, I also think today’s middle class kids are quite matured to take it right. So go for it.

I would not recommend this move Diary of a wimpy kis to adults or teens. It only seems to be for 0-12 years old. Overall a very good movie most parts were true.

My 5 year old LOVED it, and my 9 and 12 year old, who read the book, enjoyed it too.
And for grown-ups? Well I spent less time playing Wordle on my iphone than I usually do at the movies my kids pick.
The only reason I wouldn't recommend it to a friend, is most of my friends aren't 5 years old.

I was pleasantly surprised with this movie. I enjoy reading books with my little son and he is a big fan of this series, I think they did a great job adapting the first book to live action, without losing the connection with the comics. The kids are jut so similar to the sketches and Rodrick is HILARIOUS!!! Fregley could not be creepier. They condensated the best parts of the book. If you are a fan of the books, you won't be dissapointed!

My nine year old son loves the books so he had to see the movie. I was thinking this was going to be another kid movie that I would have to suffer through. Not the case. The movie is true to the book and is enjoyable and entertaining even for the adult. I highly recommend this for familys.

My son has read all of the books and couldn't wait to see the movie. He loved the movie so much, that it encouraged him to read the book again! Although its a "boy humor" movie, my nieces loved it just as much as my son.

I took my 11 y/o daughter & she said it is very much like the book. We both enjoyed it. It does a great job bringing about the developmental crises that blossoming adolescents are faced with. While the language, as some suggest, and the crude humor, might be a bit much, it is never the less realistic amongst that age group. This reality can serve as a talking point that parents can begin to have to with their young adolescents regarding issues such as self esteem, body image, sexuality, friends, academics, etc.

My 9 and 6 year olds read the book and they couldn't wait to see the movie. I was a little uncomfortable with the scene of the older brother looking at a motorcycle mag with a bikini clad model on the front cover but, other than that, we enjoyed ourselves.

My 10 year-old liked it, but even then he only ha-ha laughed twice. He also mentioned that it was very much like the book and only had a couple of things that weren't in the book. Clearly, my going-in impression of the movie and the books were correct: they're wimpy. I'm glad that only one of my wife and I having had to endure it, and I'm glad that I have the extra $10 to go see something good. Next stop, Johnny Depp and "Alice"!

I was a bit nervous to see this with my 6 and 8 1/2 year old. My older child reads these books and I'm not crazy about some of the rude language and humor (farting, using word 'moron' and so on). I do have to say though the use of crude humor was fairly minimal and there were a lot of genuinely funny scenes. In the end, Gregory realizes what is really important...true friendship and being yourself. He sees that these things are far more important than popularity status. I enjoyed seeing this with my kids.

My son and I enjoyed watching this together. There were many times we laughed very hard at the same parts and many times we chuckled together. Good morale in the story. Some very funny moments in the movie as well. My 11 year old love both the books and the movie. Great movie for children and tweens!

It never really lived up to all the hype from other viewers. It had a lot of parts where it dragged on, too slow. But I give it a big plus for it's main "message" of -- there's nothing like stepping up to the plate for a lifelong friend and putting your own interests aside for the sake of a genuine friendship! BRAVO for Wimpy Kid for that!!!

I took all four of my children to see this movie. Their ages 19, 14, 12, & 9. The majority of us thought, "it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either". As a parent I felt it had a few good moral lessons in it, but not sure if the kids caught them or not. If you are interested in seeing this, you might want to wait until it hits the dollar show or DVD.
