I was horrified at the thought that a nation could institute cloning people to donate organs, but then I dismissed this as a possibility. I could not imagine what would lead a nation to look into the eyes of someone exactly like their own citizens and treat them as lab rats. Once I decided to take this view, I allowed myself to take in the love story and the message about "completion." The last line was powerful, that we all need to immerse ourselves in love knowing that we all feel our life ends too early. But I must say the passivity of the "replica's" bothered me. I felt like I was watching prisoners in a concentration camp with no fences. This movie was perfectly cast and the old look of everything fitting to the message of the story - worn, tired, like Miss Havisham in Great Expectations, a country that was in moral decay in its attempt to prevent the decay of the flesh.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I had high hopes after taking in all the anticipation and accolades the book had received, however, I think I would have likely been disappointed even if I had no prior expectations.
POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT!!
While the characters were excellent, the premise of the movie is simply foolish and hard to take seriously. Perhaps this movie should have come out 13 years ago when human cloning was a hot-button ethical topic. Now it feels tired and played out
Regardless, I felt that the characters did not connect with me on an emotional level and I was not moved by the story as a whole. Its not that I'm hardhearted and cannot enjoy a well put together romance story; this just wasn't one.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

My wife was ready to bail out on this one about 45 minutes from the end, which rarely ever happens. This movie seemed extremely repetitious and pointless from start to finish and the acting performances were nothing special.
The premise of "Never Let Me Go" is totally implausible, and I cannot understand how Kazuo Ishiguro, the author of the book that was used as a basis for as fine a movie as "The Ice Storm" could have become a link in the chain of events this time around that resulted in this bloated, pompous turkey.
Yes, there are some very beautiful shot scenes, otherwise I'd have given this one star instead of two.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The amoral elements at the heart of "Never Let Me Go" will likely stay with the viewer after the story details and characters have begun to fade. The movie is a jarring reminder of how we could be conditioned to accept atrocity as normal. If society slowly brings us to a point of acceptance we can "forget" what we are really condoning. Sort of like the frog that is placed in a pot of water that is gradually brought to a boil. The frog accepts his fate as it is boiled to death. The movie is a bit methodical and slow at times, which supports the story, but it is worthy of a viewing.

The movie is beautifully shot and heartbreakingly sad. It remains very true to the book.

Almost every frame is a painting, beautiful and serene. There is a tender young love triangle. All of this, along with a lush string-heavy score stands in horrifying contrast to hopless, dreadful fate of the three leading characters, and their desparate wish to believe that it might be postponed.
Yet they undertake their roles with a fatalistic acceptance, never wishing to deviate from the rules of the hideous game into which they've been thrust. They are a product of careful traing, and have a passivity reminiscent of the protagenist of the Japanese classic Woman in the Dunes.
They are bred to serve others with that last full measure of devotion. How, unfolds painfully slowly as it should.
They live in a fantasy world where ends justify means. Are we them or are we their beneficiaries. If you are not moved, you have no heart. If you are not perplexed you have no brain. See it!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This is a well acted drama with the a socially pertinent story. Definitely worth the price of admission, hopefully deemed worthwhile by audiences for consideration and discussion. Truly a scary film in how subtle it is; we as the audience accept the premise as just another story, and yet hopefully people will gather the moral outrage that should ensue. Sadly, this may not happen; instead, I could easily see this premise occurring today (so many things have happened, and are now happening, that so many just are unaware of or to which so many turn a blind eye). Interestingly, it seems that more and more stories are moving away from the distinctions of race and yet still maintain the distinctions of hierarchy and castes of human beings. This movie may carry some of the same warnings one may have when facing Lucifer--the images you see will be beautiful, the reasoning for what you see will be undoubtably logical and understandable, but if you accept this then you are accepting evil, murder clothed in the hope for the health and evolution of mankind (killing not only those bodies on the bottom of this caste system, but also the souls of those who benefit from this atrocity). I really hope that people will consider the warning, but that hope is weak if evolution is considered so much more valuable, real, and tangible than spirituality and truth. I may be projecting on to others my own self criticism, so I hope I'm wrong. But anyway, this was a good movie to watch.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
