Ok lets start this with, I've been attending Rocky shows for 25yrs going back to the 8th Street Playhouse, and then off to Queens at the Midway theater. My friends and I went last night because it was the 35th Anniversary and we wanted to see if the traditions still are kept.
We didn't have a problem with the selling of prop bags, actually we were saying that wow...we should have done that! We didn't have a problem with the dance music before the show either, it's a great way to get everyone in the audience up on their feet.
The problems we had were primarily timing issues...and Eddie's content. Lets start with timing...getting into the theater at 12;15AM presents a problem, a logistical one from a theatrical standpoint. Everything is now going to run late, and if it's not guided back on track, one looses it all together. That is exactly what happened last night. The timing was off getting people inside, then there was the great inclusion of having the "virgins" go up on stage and the raffle. The added two films were interesting, but time consuming and in light of the "event" as a whole, I cannot see the necessity of including both. One should have been cut.
Timing was also VERY off with the lines...there were primarily two participants shouting lines back at the screen without anyone helping/coaching the audience in what they were to respond. Again, it happens in every theater, not a problem...but there's the old saying...say it loud, say it together...or don't say it at all.
The cast member playing Eddie was off the chart. The things coming out of his mouth the ENTIRE movie were just retarded half the time...and to be totally honest, it detracted from the show. The audience participation is and WAS meant to be done at specific pauses or breaks in the dialog...NOT to be an on-running continuous monologue throughout the entire movie. Our group is far from close minded, far from timid...but the stuff coming out of his mouth was simply unnecessary....the comment about Mother Theresa, the comment about Patrick Swayze, and the comment about the Rutgers student? Come on kid, get your act together and stick to the script, stick to what's funny, and has "worked" for generations. Another thing that our group noticed was that even when people started getting pissed at Eddie...and BELIEVE me there were quite a few...the other cast member kept it going making contemptuous comments toward the people in the audience. WTF? Are you kidding me? That is NOT what this movie is about, at all. The lines, when they DID come out with the right timing were hysterical as always, the cast performed their parts with precision and we were totally impressed.
Except for Riff...what was up with the guy not wearing the Riff wig? Great that he put the costume on, great that he knew his lines...cue's...but what happened, did someone misplace the Riff wig? Did he just not want to do it, thinking that noone would notice...that he was taking theatrical license by NOT wearing the wig? Um...no...didn't work, looked stupid without it, sorry.
In all, we had a great time, and we think that the show can be MUCH better if you can put a leash on Eddie's mouth, stick to the standard lines, but with new fresh commentary...at the RIGHT INSTANCES....to hear this guy shout his own lines throughout the ENTIRE movie got old really fast. Keep up the good work and remember...grow...grow...grow!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

It was great, even though I've seen it a number of times before.
The choreographed lines from the audience, interacting with the characters on screen, were awesome. That really made for a movie going experience, in a great way!
Go, and take your kids (unless they're too young, in which case you should take them when they're older).
Go now!

Dear Ryan,
I attended your production of the Rocky Horror Picture Show on Halloween, 12:01 with a large group of friends. As a longtime fan of the RHPS, I must agree with the dissatisfaction which took place at your location last night. I have been to, and participated in many locations/productions throughout the years and found last nights show to be disturbing for the following reasons. First , let me say, that "Yes, laughter is the best medicine", however, this only holds true if done in the right context . The remark made from one of the cast ( I was seated 2 rows behind him), referring to the recent tragedy of the Rutgers University student was not only quite insensitive , but after the remark was made, your cast member turned to his colleague, gloated and laughed at the fact that he had received "negative feedback" from many regarding his statement. I personally found this offensive. Although I am very open minded and believe in having a sense of humor, I did not find his statements or attitude one of compassion or sensitivity to the gay and lesbian community, therefore find it perplexing that you would state you receive "blessings" from the gay & lesbian community to also include the statements he made. in the production.
As for being responsible for overzealous fans, yes, this can be a difficult task to control. I was seated in the row behind the individual with the hat who's overzealous and poor timing were not only disturbing to me, but to many other patrons seated within the same area as he was. It was quite unfortunate that he was allowed to continue in the way he did for such a long period of time before being asked to leave.
I am fully aware, that each production of the RHPS holds it's uniqueness which allows it's fans to leave the show having had an awesome experience, as well as for those first time attendees wanting to return. Sadly, this was not the case that night.
The RHPS is a legend in it's own right. One which should promote an awesome experience for those of us who have been fans for many years, and future fans to come.
I would hope that you consider any and all complaints more as "positive feedback", rather than negative input.
RHPS Fan,
Linnzee

I have seen this movie many times, both in small theaters, playhouse and on Broadway. This was the worst experience I have ever had! We got there and were seated by 1145, but the movie didn't even start playing until 1am. There was an hour of a pre-show, which was just awful and painfully. I realize this is put on by high school and college students, but really? Does an entire theater have to sit through your play about homophobia and killing gay people, then contests and raffles before we can watch the movie? We stayed through the hour long delay because we love the movie. Once it stared, they announced the projector was broken, and it sure was. The movie started playing and there was no color and almost no sound. The worst part was one of the actors in the show decided that the opening credits would be a good time to practice her strip tease. She proceeded to take her shirt off. It was HORRIBLE, in what world is ok to take you clothes off during the show? And trust me, this girl should have left her clothes on! Then there was just non stop yelling, There was no coherent shouted along with the movie, it was just drunk guys yelling the most hateful things they could say. It was their time to say all the bad things they was to say to women they don't like, but don;t have the nerve to, except in front of a crowed movie theater at a Rocky Show. We walked out during the time warp, about 10 minutes into the show. But we had been there for over an hour. My recommendation: Watch the movie anywhere else but here, unless you want to experience the worse parts of high school all over again!

Have been going for years, but haven't seen in Charlotte until last night. The cast did a great job, and I was pleased to see how many people were dressed up. There were a fair amount of people who didn't seem to know much about Rocky... I think they had heard about it on Glee and came to the theatre... they were quickly inducted :)

Generally I like this movie and I've seen it in the theatre before. Last time was fun, this time was full of nut jobs who kept kicking my chair - once in the head in the poses for the screen shots. They yelled throughout the entire movie - not just the typical parts. It wasn't just a couple of people, it was about 1/4 of the theatre and there were many other people annoyed like me. When I complained to one guy, he just told me I wasn't drunk enough. Will never go back

Yes I was a 'virgin'. All my friend were, but we dare didn't say so (lol). I know, I know that's part the fun and altho some of us aren't as outgoing as others I think those of us that were would have been more inclined to participate if the movie hadn't started so late, and the pre-show hadn't been so long. I appreciate the work that had gone into it but I think because of the late start (which wasnt their fault) the cast should have cut back the pre show a bit and got right to it.
By the time the movie had started we all were a little aggravated from waiting around but I love Rocky Horror so I was super excited personally. I guess it wasn't totally what I expected. I knew parts but didn't realize stuff was yelled the WHOLE time. I don't know if this was just this cast or all Rocky Horror (id love to hear from others with different experiences) but I thought for the most part you could watch some of the movie and clever comments and props were used throughout. My BF had never seen it and walked out saying, "ok can we go home and watch it, Id love to see it" so yes needless to say the 'participation' was more then I thought.
On the few occasions where everyone was together, the timing was right and the corresponding jokes were funny, it made us laugh and it was a good time but for most of it, it was a bunch of people yelling different things over each other at different times and I had a hard time getting it because I couldn't hear what it related to in the movie. I'd say maybe a little less of that and the rest of it a little better executed and it'd be a lot more fun. I think ultimately it'd make it that much more enjoyable for everyone, and not just those involved with the screening. I used to be a drama kid too so I thought back to how fun this sort of thing would have been for me and my friends, but in retrospect I see now that you must remind yourselves, don't forget the audience.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I love the Rocky Horror Picture Show and the cast was amazing!! I would defiantly recommend it to anyone who wants to have a original, fun movie experience.
Now before you go understand (since i read this as a complaint in other reviews) the point is to yell stupid stuff at the movie and in general make fun of it (you can look up a list of lines online before you go). It is a lot of fun and a good time and something everyone should experience at least once :)

Love this movie, always have. I grew up in the 60's and went to shows in the 70's in Georgetown. The live performances are not as good as I remember but okay. The audience dialogue has changed, however. For us aging hippies, we will have to adjust to the new audience participation responses -very different from what I remember.
There was a very obnoxious guy (cast member) yelling throughout (I suspect a lot was ad lib) which detracted from the film. It would not have been a problem if the volume of the film had been louder. I could barely hear the film dialogue because of this individual's very loud yelling.
Next time, please turn the film volume up!!
Otherwise, an entertaining time at the E Street Theater.

Movie was a classic and I could recommend it HOWEVER, the in-house "cast" really needs help. Their performance was way over the top and bore no relationship to the original. It seemed an excuse to be verbally "potty-mouthed" and way too loud. You could not hear the movie for them...especially the particularly loud and verbally trash mouthed male member in the rear. Did anyone tell them that they were there as an adjunct to the movie and not the main show???

Movie was fun and funny with the cast and the crowds but too much yelling from the staffs and this make it kinda annoying for most of the time. When you pushing it too hard to be funny... it won't be funny.
If you don't mind, I'd like to say... it would be perfect when you stop yelling different words from different direction, it's too much and it's annoying. If you wanna yell, pls yell ALL TOGETHER and LOUDER!!

I really like the movie so when I heard they had a cast perform it I knew I had to go and c it. It was funny, fun and the cast was great. The only thing that I HATED was the people who were part of the cast who sat off to the side screaming things out the whole movie. I get it they wanted to yell out little funny inserts but it got ridiculous to the point where you couldn't hear the movie at some parts. Overall I think it was good, just less yelling dumb things out.

Don't forget your props! Brilliant concept in movie entertainment, you actually want to view this movie at the theater, again and again. it's not the same just watching at home on dvd. if you're a 'virgin' like I was, you owe it to yourself to experiance it! The movie was good and fun as always and the performing cast in the front of the theatre did a fine job. The problem was the person from the cast who played Eddie spent most of his time walking around and yelling the same lame jokes (some which had nothing to do with the movie) over and over and being a distraction. The movie should be the main attraction and the live cast should be SUPPORTING, not dominating. If “Eddie” needs all that attention he should try open-mike night at the comedy club and staying out of the movies.
I recommend the movie and seeing with a cast could be a good addition, just not with this guy – he ruins the whole experience.

The cast "Beautiful Creatures" was VERY good. Probably one of the best in theater casts I have seen. Great costume, and they knew the parts very well. Which leads me to the audience... they just did not know what to do. There were a few folks in the audience that knew what to shout out and where, but I think most of the audience was confused. Here is my suggestion to Beautiful Creatures: Bring in a few more "members" (they could always be the 'extras' from the laboratory scene) scatter them in seats throughout the crowd. Now, have them all yell the appropriate one liners at the same time.
If you have not seen Rocky Horror in the theater with a solid cast and an experienced audience... you simply have NOT seen Rocky Horror.

I have seen this movie in the theater many times. The people doing this production at the Chelsea clearview have destroyed it. It started at 2 AM- not midnight. The made you wait online for over an hour before seating so they could sell overpriced "props" like rice, toilet paper etc. This was followed up by 30 minutes of a bad DJ, and a terrible production of the Peanuts- The Great Pumpkin.
The cast performing live was horrible with the exception of Colombia. Going to a midnight screening of this flick used to be amazing fun, but this made it the worst Halloween experience of my life.

While Rocky is a cult classic that everyone should experience at least once in a life time, The Chelesea Theatre and it's floor show missed the mark. The actors are not elevated, which makes it difficult to see and the audience is out of control making it almost impossiable for a virgin to follow. It took hours of standing in crowded lines even with reserved tickets.
So thumps up for Rocky
But find somewhere else to see it.
