Although this wasn't my choice to see, I found it to be more interesting than I thought I would, but not because of the love story between John and Savannah. The character of John's dad is what gave the movie substance, and added another dimension to the decisions made by the other characters - one part of this was disappointing to me, I wonder if it was the same in the book?
Overall, worth the time and money spent.

I have been anticipating this movie for quite some time. Both the actors were definetely easy on the eyes, but more importantly, the movie captured what it is like to fall in love. I thought the movie did a good job of gently portraying what it is like to date a military person, and the unique things you would be faced with. I felt the ending was forced, that it could have ended at "Goodbye Savannah". Overall, I enjoyed it, and definetely had a couple of teary moments.

The book was definately more intense and much better. I am an avid Nicholas Sparks fan and love his writing; I don't know why Hollywood has to change something that is already so good, that part is a disappointment. The movie is still very good and worth seeing. Be sure to bring your tissues!

Honestly, when my girlfriend said she wanted to see Dear John, there wasn't a cell in my body that wanted to see it. After watching it though, I gotta say that it was a lot better than I expected. It was good for guys and girls. Although, if your a guy, then the girl will absolutely piss you off.

If you read the book first, there are a lot of changes made for the movie. (some that don't even make sense) However, I still thought the movie was great! Had a few tearful moments myself and would definitely recommend seeing it!

I had been looking forward to this since early 2009 and I couldn't be more disappointed. If you love the book like I do, most likely the movie will bore you. I cried like a baby during the book but the movie was just so different. If you're not an avid Sparks fan; I could see how you would love the movie. It is definitely not worth seeing in theaters, I recommend renting it later on. I just don't understand why Hollywood always changes Sparks' storylines because they are perfect in the first place.

This movie is realistic in how easy it is to fall in love with someone and what its like to have a loved one in the military. It brought me back to when love was simple and fun. It makes you appreciate what these guys go through while serving our country overseas. I laughed and cried. Good flick!

Dear John is a case of missed opportunities by Lasse Hallstrom, the film's director. The very beginninng of the movie was a perfect set up for the father-son relationship which was far from developed. Had it been, that's where the first kleenex would have been brought out. Tatum and Seyfried did their best with their on-screen time but the depth of their relationship was undeveloped as well. It would have benn more effective to carve an emotional chasm between the two and have one die (to bring out the second kleenex) but instead the ending just appears out of nowhere. That must have been the time Bowen & Godfrey, the producers, cut off the money supply. No tears from this family's viewing...

The movie was very good and left me with more emotions than I have ever felt from a movie before. This is mainly BECAUSE I have dated a few soldiers and I am married to one and this really depicts the life they live. They give up everything for US. And no, I am not some hick that is completely pro-USA, but people have no idea how much this really happens. How lonely these soldiers are and how much they get their heart broken. It is terrible. Maybe people should look at that side of the movie and realize those are the emotions they are supposed to feel, not just the- "Oh my gosh, they didn't end up together part."

Truly a great movie. While you think you had the movie figured out by the trailers be expecting some of the twist and turns along the way. While you think you know how the movie goes, she falls in love, they fall in love and there is mass hurdle to overcome. Don't be surprised when you sit down to watch this movie and in just one short hour you are taking on an adventure that shows you who "Dear John" really is and Savanah. How they come to be is a true romance that stands the test of time. Specifically the movie starts in 2000 or 2001 and goes through to 2007. Be prepared with a tissue in hand. Something about a grown army man on his knees crying really pulls at the ole heart strings.

I can see people enjoying this movie. I can also see people not understanding the movie. If you read the book, which I did not, You can see the differences. It is truely a chic flic. I've lived around the Air Force, and soldiers, for a lot of years...unfortunately this movie will be TOO realiastic for some soldiers that got dumped because they had to be away from home. The acting was very good. I didn't read the book, so I had no early expectations. I think the movie could have had another 5 minutes or so to wrap up the ending better. Overall, a good movie... but a little depressing.

this movie was absolutely dreadful. i'm a sucker for romance, and i have very low standards for romance movies as well. Dear John was terrible, the plot was a disappointment and the movie ended nearly in the middle of a scene. It made no sense. Channing was a great part of the movie, but other than that I never want to see it again. It's diappointing because i had been looking forward to it since December.

This was one of the most disappointing movies I have seen in a LONG time. I was left in awe, along with the rest of the audience, after hearing the "what?" after the movie was over. I think it took 5 minutes for everyone to actually get up and leave the theater after seeing the more than horrible ending. I would NEVER recommend this movie to anyone, nor would I have I have ever wasted my money or time on seeing it, if I knew what I was getting myself into.

I did not read the book but the movie was awesome! Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried worked really well together. Channing Tatum made the movie and of course was as sexy as ever. I read the book before ever even hearing about the movie. When I heard how the book was being made into a movie I was extremely excited. The book was one of my favorite books of all time! I went to see the movie the night it was released, last night, and I was not impressed. Beside Channing Tatum being great to look at the movie captured about 25% of the book. Chapter 13 and 14 are crucial to the story and I feel like 95% of those chapters were completely left out. My recommendation READ THE BOOK! So... I think I would have enjoyed the movie alot more if I had not read the book because there is no comparison. Bummer!

I read the book first and expected the movie to be along the same plot which it was but it was different in a few ways. I loved the changes made form the book to movie, it added excitement because I didn't know what was coming. I would definitely recommend this to a friend, but bring tissues!

Took my daughter and her friend 14 year old's to see this movie. Great chick flick, a little slow at times and the sexuality in the movie might be a little uncomfortable for some. The girl's enjoyed it. I could have waited to see it on dvd.

me personally slept through most of the movie...however...my date loved it. She just wanted to see channing tatum so now I get compared to him now....so I sorely disappoint in that department. On the plus side...it made her very happy so I can't complain on that. Guys if you wanna earn brownie points take your lady to see it and pretend it was great.

Loved it overall. Read the book and of course made comparisons, some changes didn't make much sense to me but didn't change the overall tone of the story. The ending was completely different from the book, but in a good happy ending way so no complaints here. By the way, Channing Tatum is hot (just a side note:) If you like Nicholas Sparks books and chick flicks, you will love this movie.

Well first of channing tatum is gorgeous to begin with and a reason to the see the movie alone. however, usual portrayed in masculine, non-emotional roles... he was quite surprisingly very in touch with emotion. He worked well and had on-screen chemistry with his co-lead. definitely a must see for a girls nite out.
