This is the ultimate chick flick. It is so incredibly painful to sit through. I was just so bored and thought of all the other things I could be doing. I was so completely not interested in these peoples' lives. The guy's father was the only interesting character. Richard Jenkins is an Oscar nominated best actor, and it shows. Plus, he was autistic, so that made it interesting. I could have cared less about the romance of the young couple. This movie was such a drag. Please read the critics reviews on the Net. They are all universally bad reviews. No one liked it. It is probably a teenage girl's favorite movie. But, oh so terribly difficult for an adult male to sit through.

Saw it opening night Friday, read the book Saturday, went back and saw it a second time Sunday! The best movie for any hopeless romantic - the chemistry, casting, movie setting all of it was done just perfect! I can't wait to see it again for the 3rd time. Having not read this particular book, I was very impressed with the movie. I'm not one that normally notices this but it was BEAUTIFULLY DIRECTED! There are such details and wonderful shots that truly make the movie-goer experience the film rather than just watch it. I think the acting was tremendous and that the casting was brilliant. John and Savannah were so believable and john's father deserves an award for his portrayal. I watched it twice opening weekend and will definately purchase when it comes out for my collection!

I am an avid Nicholas Sparks fan. He is the only author of this genre I will read. That said, I am sad to say that I do not think the movie was up to the standards of his book from which it came. The ending was anti-climatic. The characters could have been better developed. I would watch it again to pass the time however it is not my favorite movie based on his books. I would have to say out of all the movies made from his books this is the one I least liked. Nicholas Sparks is a writer who writes in a way that you feel the emotions of his characters. That is what makes his books amazing.

Do not be fooled! "Dear John" is not your typical love story and it does not have a predictable ending. How refreshing!! First of all this was a completelly girly movie. All is about the guy, who is presented as an atraction prototipe instead of a trully hearted sentimental guy. My friends and I all read the book, and decided to go watch the movie. We were very disappointed. Usually when books are turned into movies you know that there will be things that were in the book that would be ommitted in the movie. But Dear John took the cake. You have to read the book to fully appreciate the movie. I think they did an excellent job of keeping the movie really close to the book. I think many people were discouraged because it wasn't your "typical" ending...it was more like real life. Real life sucks and if you are lucky enough in life to find your one "great" love, then consider yourself lucky because they don't typically have a storybook ending. Overall...Great story!

I read the book that week, and me and my friends went see it midnight when it came out. I was soo disappointed! I hated how they changed up the story line. The one thing that was the same was the basic story of Savannah and John, the rest was made up?? I don't know what they were thinking! It was extremely depressing to me because I guess I was expecting too much? The actors and actresses did excellent, it was just horrible how they deviated from the book so much. Loved the characters, everthing about them form John's shyness to Savanna's slight dorkiness. I love the realism of this love story, how everything doesnt always work out perfectly.

The movie was good, up until the ending. I had people tweeting "going to see Dear John. But after the movie was over, no reaction what so ever. So i knew i was in for a horrible movie. The movie had some tear jerker moments, but the ending totally did not make sense. It seemed as though it was like the notebook, you have to buy the DVD to see the scenes they cut out to see what just happened.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This was an excellent classic love story. The characters had great chemistry and the story did go away from the book, but I enjoyed it. I loved the movie ending so much more than the book ending. Channing Tatum did a great job with his character. A+++++

I really liked dear john, i was thinking that i was going to be just like the notebook, but i wasn't. I don't normal cry at moives but this made me cry, laugh, and just want to be in the moive. The only thing that I really didn't like was the last few mintues of the moive I want more detail into what happened there.
