The movie was great. It differed greatly from the book. I liked the book better but the movie was good. I think Tatum Channing was awesome, I think another actress could have been a little more passionate though. All in all I think the book John was a stronger character but I don't think it was due to Tatum Channing I think it was the way the movie script was written.

The movie was great, but if you've read the book it's very different. John isn't the same intellegent great man he is in the book. But, it's still an AMAZING movie. And the ending was a nice surpise!

I fell in love with this movie! The only thing that was kind of a bumber was the ending. It didn't seem right for some reason.. Like the movie should of went on longer?? I saw this movie yesterday (Pres. Day) with some girlfriends. It was a great movie. I read the book this past summer and the movie went along with the book until the last two things at the end (Tim dying and John seeing Savannah). I liked the way they ended the movie because it left it open for...maybe a follow up to the movie. I would recommend this movie over and over again. Awesome and well worth the time and money to see it.

Having just returned from Iraq myself, the story line seemed very real. That age old struggle to 'hold on' while our hero is deployed. The details were 'right on,' except the shoulder boards on his dress green's shirt was upside down (when he came to dinner after his father died)... kinda distracting. Was that an inside Special Forces joke, or just an oversight? Beautiful cinemotography, lovely story, will keep you thinking about it for days to come.

My husband and I saw this movie on Valentine's Day - it wsa a very emotional movie for us to see - my daughter left for Army boot camp on Feb 2nd and my husband has a daughter with Autism, so it was an incredibly moving experience for us. I am a big fan of the notebook and loved this movie as much if not better than that movie - Channing Tatum was amazing and I have never seen Amanda Seyfried and I fell in love with her acting ability - the cast was perfectly matched - I highly recommend this movie

I should start by saying that I had low expectations going in. This was definitely my wife's choice. The first 15 minutes or so only reinforced my fear that this would be a formulaic, overly sentimental waste of time. Soon, though, I found myself fully enjoying the characters and, in particular, the intricate relationship between father and son. When the movie ended, I was surprised, thinking "it's already been 108 minutes? I guess that probably sums it up best for me.

I went and saw 3 movies over the weekend, Valentines Day, When in Rome and last but not least Dear John. By far the best movie of the weekend for me.! This movie moved slowly. I lost interest when John and Chloe moved apart. The part with John and his father was very touching. The end was confusing arranged meeting or surprise??

I'm a huge fan of Nicholas Sparks and thought this was a great book. Unfortunately, the movie doesn't quite connect. I definitely wouldn't recommend seeing this in a theater. If you're a fan of the "chick flick" then wait for this one to come out on DVD. It was a great story - the film doesn't do it justice.
