Definetly not what I expected they cut out too much in the previews to make it look like a really happy film. But really justa screwed up 20 year old who treats his dad like dirt. I was about to get up and walk out the theater becuase the way the son treated his dad made me cry about 5 times.

I thought the movie was really good! I loved Channing Tatum in it and I thought he did an awesome job! Amanda Seyfried was very good, because I know it's hard to portray a really annoying stupid character like savannah. The only things I didn't like were that they cut out really important stuff, or changed it. I didn't really like the ending because I had no idea if they got back together or not. Otherwise it was very good.

I would off waited till it came out in DVD. They cut out many of the good parts and replace it by story lines that were not in the book. I understand that is not always the same as the book but don't change it! The ending is not a happy one in the book. The only good part is Channing Tatum body hehe.

The father/son relationship was great in the movie. Channing Tatum & Amanda Seyfried have great onscreen chemistry and I enjoyed the movie up until the ending. I think the ending was rushed & very incomplete as others have said. The entire sold out theater agreed as the movie ended. I would recommend seeing this movie although I think the ending definitely does not compare to The Notebook!!

The movie was a huge disappointment. My girlfriend was really excited for it so I jumped on board. It started off okay, I thought the dad did an amazing job, and really made you attach to his character. Channing tatum was good, the girl didn't fit the part. I spent most of this movie trying to figure out whether I was watching a war epic or a 2-hr episode of Dawson's Creek. There's definite chemistry between Tatum and Seyfried and I look forward to seeing them together in a better film in the future. However, "Dear John" is a movie that's touching at times, but fails to focus us on the romance or the characters or the war.

Channing Tatum's body was the only good thing about this movie. Reading the book, I was balling about 4 times. The movie, I only cried once and it was during a scene with John and his father. As far as the rest of the movie, I don't think that the writers of this movie even read the book!

Let's just face it, there will never be another Notebook!!! No matter how many lame attempts are made. "Dear John" was my favorite Nicholas Sparks book so far and i was beyond excited to see it. All I can say is i was extremely disappointed!!!! The movie dragged, did not follow the book, and Amanda Seyfried was NOT the right Savannah. Channing Tatum did a good job as John, but the love story between them was never full developed. And the book had such a powerful ending, unlike the movie, in which everyone in the theater shouted out, "really?" cause it was so blunt and unemotional. Truly a slow boring movie, without any chemistry or plot development.

This is the first movie where I can say Channing Tatum did not annoy me. As for the movie itself? It's a mix of "The Notebook" with a splash of "Hurtlocker" and a drop of "Rainman". This Nicholas Sparks guy needs to stop focusing on the same love story forumula (spoilers ahead): Young Boy lives with his father, meets a rich girl, falls in love, writes letters, rich girl moves on, young boy becomes more of a man and returns home, rich girl's feelings never went away, blah blah blah. Through out all of this he throws in another medical/psychological case. Eh, this movie is ok.

I, like many people, waited months for the release of Dear John. I was very excited about this movie. I love Nicolas Sparks books and movies. I did not read this book so I thought since I had nothing to compare to it I would love it. I have to say it was quite the opposite. The ending made it less sad than the book, but why was Tim's brother his son in the movie? Loved the portrayal of the Dad, and Channing Tatum was the best part! Amanda was ok as Savannah.

I really enjoyed the movie, probably because I never read the book. Channing Tatum was a great actor for the part, but I feel that Savannah's part could have been played somewhat better by another actress. The lack of an ending did ruin it; there was no resolution. Up until the end though, I really liked his movie.

I've been wait for this movie for so long. My friends and me bought our tickets in advance to be sure that we got to see it on opening day. I loved Channing Tatum in this movie. He captured the chacater better than i thought. Amanda Seyfried was the perfect person to play opposite Channing. My only problem with the movie was the ending. I wanted something more. But all in all this will be one of them that i will watch over and over.

I really felt bad for my girlfriend who was really looking forward to seeing this movie after reading the book. The acting was ok but the storyline jumped all over the place, but the "LACK" of an ending killed it for both of us.
