We often see a movie and say "If that happened to me I would..." Finally a movie that shows us what that looks like - and then some. Butler's character shows skill, patience and much perseverance as he skillfully plots and executes his retaliation in an attempt to teach Fox's character an important lesson in Justice. This story is well thought out and very entertaining - go see it.

Let me start by saying that I did like this movie, it was entertaining, kept you guessing and had great action scenes. With that being said, I think they could have done a better job with Jamie Foxx's character. Maybe it was him, maybe it was the way he was written, but for a situation as intense as this, he was questionably calm, reserved and not all that believable. Samuel L or Denzel might have done a better job in his role. Overall, 4 stars, Gerard Butler is still the man.

If you think our justice system is corrupt and in desperate need of a bloody wake-up call, this movie will appeal to you. Butler plays the man who has lost everything now serving up a serious dose of revenge to all those who let his family's killers off easy. Jaime, ironically, is most to blame, but he's spared so he can witness the damage that cutting deals with murderers brings. Fun stuff, though a bit over the top and ridiculous at times. If you can just sit back and enjoy the carnage, you'll love it.

An interesting action thriller where we find Gerard Butler playing a high tech version of the old Charles Bronson's Death Wish character. While there are many "leaps of logic" the movie zips right along and carries us into the motivations of our main character early on through the murder of his wife and child. This horrific event, so graphically portrayed on-screen, brands us with empathy and liberates our conscience so we can root for revenge and retribution. Good acting here by Butler and Foxx and the rest of the seasoned cast. Crisp editing, above average cinematography and decent dialogue adds to the enjoyment.

I am glad I saw this film before I read the newspaper reviews.(which were generally poor to fair) I found myself fully involved in this movie for the entire 1hour and 48 minutes. Not Jamie Foxx's best performance, but Gerard Butler was fantastic.

Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) and Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) are excellent frenemies. They sympathize with each other, in a way, as each teaches the other a lesson in dispensing justice. Butler is credible as the crushed father and husband who believes he must use his unique skills and talent to make an example of a justice system that has forgotten the victims. Foxx is an arrogant self-serving assistant district attorney who is only concerned with his conviction rate as he claws his way up the justice system ladder. But when he has a family of his own, he begins to see Clyde's point, yet he cannot give in to all of Clyde's demands to stop the carnage. Beautifully filmed in a noir tone with excellent timing on the stunts and effects.

Law Abiding Citizen is a meticulously crafted action/thriller with outstanding performances. Gerald Butler holds court as a vengeful mastermind committed to bringing the people responsible for his family's death to justice. Jamie Foxx shows another level to his talent as the DA who must stop him from taking down the entire system. The story is very clever, well-written by Kurt Wimmer, with unexpected twists and a very satisfying, if not bittersweet, ending. F. Gary Gray has shown his best work here, layering this film with thematic resonance and stellar entertainment. This should be the sleeper hit of the fall and definitely worth a trip to the theater on opening weekend.
