In 3D IMAX this movie was tunningly visual. It had the generic "Hollywood" story that you would expect, but the 3D imaging was beautiful. While you can pretty much guess the plot after a quick summary, the movie was performed brilliantly. The actors did well, and you became attatched to the film. This seemed like a cocktail mixed up of "Never Ending Story" and "Dances with Wolves". It was done very well and was beautifully visual. Definately worth the $17.

The story itself was very good, but seeing it in IMAX 3D was the icing on the cake. It was really an experience, not just movie. I feel sorry for anyone who wait for this to go to DVD-it just wouldn't be the same.

I went to c this past weekend Avatar with my friends having little interest in this movie not thinking it would be great. All of my friends and me walked away with smiles and all agreed that this is the best movie ever made and should get nominated for best movie of the decade. The special effects, story characters are all fresh and new not original but what this movie does is take the best from every big movie out there and make it that much better. This is a regular theater review and Imax 3d review wich was stunning also. I was worried that my eyes were going to hurt with the goggles for three hours but I never noticed a single second that my eyes hurt. Go c the best movie ever made...

The computer-enhanced animation and 3D made this a movie worth watching on the big screen in a theatre.
It's a bit of a let-down that the film does not follow through on it's original promise by being more innovative in it's casting and scripting to equal the innovations in it's visual effects. However, the sheer brilliance of the visual effects helps one to overlook the shortcomings of the story line.
Some have labeled the film as anti-military and some have said it's racist. I disagree and feel that the main message was one of respecting others and advocating understanding of their traditions and also respecting the importance of the environment and the balance of nature.

The special effects did not disappoint. They were the best I've seen, often leaving me wondering, "how did they do that?" The plot, however, was typical Hollywood boilerplate: Bloodthirsty military joins forces with money-grubbing private industry to cruelly attack and displace primitive, tree-hugging (literally) peaceful natives. Nevertheless, it was brilliantly creative and imaginative, and worth seeing.

A stunning display of CG at it's finest, combined with a lovely story. Cammron has given us a movie that shows how people look at nature in different views, and how some people can change as they experince live through the eyes of another.

This movie was tremendous. I haven't had 2 hours and 40 minutes go by so fast. It is unbelieveable that most of what I saw was purely computer generated. James Cameron has outdone himself. If there was a hidden agenda, as some have said, forget it and just have a good sit.

While I'm glad I got out to see this in IMAX 3D, and would actually consider it an "Experience", I don't think I will be seeing this one again. I wish the thought and innovation that seemed to have gone into the world and the visuals had given the characters and story the same kind of life; they were all horribly two dimensional and predictable.

One of the best movies I have seen in awhile.
Even though the story was not new.
" Basic person was sent to do something he knew was wrong , Deceives the person then fall in love with them. Ends up helping them."
I never felt there was a difference between the animated character and the real human actors.
They did a great job on special effects.
I really enjoyed the 3D Imax experience.
For being over 2 1/2 hours It went by fast.
I will see this movie again for sure.

Great effects, beautiful filming, wonderful 3D. Too bad the writing didn't match. The characters were so stereo typed and two-dimensional. Incredibly PC - one of the preachiest movies I've been to in a loooooong time.

I've seen the movie both in regular and in imax, I definitely have to say I recommend the imax, it's just one of those movies that was MADE for seeing on a huge screen. Sure, the storyline is pretty much dances with wolves .. in outer space, but it was still entertaining and interesting enough, with absolutely beautiful graphics to capture my attention for the entire 2 hours and 40 minutes. If you haven't seen it.. what's wrong with you, go now!

I have seen Avatar twice now; once in 3D, and once in IMAX 3D. To tell the truth, I did not notice too much of a difference between the two besides the larger IMAX screen. However, I was unable to truly enjoy the screen because the show was sold out, and I had to sit in the second row. On to the movie - Avatar is amazing. I would highly recommend it if you are unsure of going. While the controversial messages of the movie are clear, they do not come across as preachy. The visual effects are stunning; with the 3D glasses on I truly felt like I was in the film. The story is creative and ends well. Go see this movie!! (In 3D)

The movie effects were great. The acting fantastic!! But, I'm sorry this was the most unamerican story I have ever seen with a multi million dollar budget. My wife and I were so excited to see this movie in IMax 3D. Little did we know we were blind sided with a message telling us that our United States Armed Forces are no more than unruly pawns in a corporate greed world. James Cameron showed our armed forces as brainless rednecks that kill and destroy just because we want something. My most hated line in the movie "we fight terror with terror" basically saying we are no better then the terrorists we try to fight on a daily basis (overseas). DO NOT SPEND MONEY ON THIS MOVIE!!!

Combine Star Wars, Pocahontas, and every cowboy movie ever made, and you have the plot. The IMAX 3D was great except for the flat object images stacked on top of each other. It reminded me of the old "stereoscopic" slide viewers with the circular cardboard wheel. As for plot, do we really need another anti-western-culture, pantheistic Gaiea-worship screed? As a professional aviator, I had to laugh at the flying machines and sound effects. Those small, enclosed rotors would not sound like a present-day helicopter! The shuttle looked like a paper airplane I learned to make when I was a kid 50 years ago. Bottom line, go see it (in IMAX 3D) to enjoy the visuals; just don't expect any more than 4th-grade levels of exposition.

Fantastic movie. The effects are mind blowing. Great story line. This movie puts past and current US/World events into their proper perspective in a tasteful way.
We left the movie shell shocked, turned around and went back in and watched again 45 min later. Going back for a 3 time today.

OMG - This movie was amazing - I highly recommend seeing it in IMAX, although, I may go back and try it in regular 3D just to compare.
Graphics, action, movement - all beautifully executed. How can you go wrong with an action, adventure, love, nature, space, war, cowboy, fantasy flick!?!
After the first few minutes, I was completely IN THE MOVIE - until some idiot in the first row decided to start texting. If you feel the need to text during a movie, at least have the decency to sit in the LAST ROW so that the light from your phone doesn't break the concentration of everyone behind you.
Thanks for letting me vent! And, do NOT wait for it to come out in DVD... GO SEE THIS MOVIE on the biggest screen possible.

This was truly a unique and extraordinary moviegoing experience. I was completely transported to Pandora and engrossed in the beautiful and spiritual storyline for the full running length. James Cameron has truly achieved a cinematic triumph that changes the playing field, Well worth the extra couple of dollars for IMAX 3-D. A must-see!
