Visually spectacular. A work of art. However, the story is simply a retelling of the European ravaging and conquest of Native America. Watch Dances With Wolves with the tint on the television adjusted so that all the characters appear blue and you've basically seen this movie.

I went to see the movie with my wife yesterday. We were a little skeptical going in but were amazed with what it had to offer. The movie is full of substance. we were never lost. The message in it is pretty clear and very close to the reality we live in. we give it five stars.

I went into this with some high expectations because it's a James Cameron film. I also had trepidations about the 3D aspect of it, but all my friends assured me that 3D was the only way to go. All my fears were put to rest during the opening sequence. As Avatar progressed, I became more and more engrossed in the storyline, which was accompanied by some of the most stunning visuals I have ever encountered in a film. As the end credits began, I joined the theater in an uproarious round of applause. Bravo Mr. Cameron!

I absolutely loved the whole theme, both military and love story
What more can I say, just saw it last night in IMAX 3D and WOW. The visual effects of this film in 3D is beyond anything ever accomplished so far. AS one previous reviewer stated, it was hard to believe that almost 3 hours had passed once the movie was over.
The location & scenary was stunning, the acting very good, the story line was more or less believable.
If you haven't seen it, do NOT miss a chance to see this on the big screen. You become complete immersed in the film with the 3D effect!

This is the best movie I have ever seen. I went to see it with my son and was so wowed I went back with my wife and it was just like seeing it for the first time. The IMAX 3D experience was a plus. It felt like you were in the movie. The first time I went the show was packed and we found ourselves at the end of the line which put us in the very front row. To my supprise these were really good seats. You can lay your head back on the seat and watch. For a movie that is almost 3 hours long, I hated to see it end.....Both Times!!

I could only compare my AVATAR experience to the first time I saw Star Wars on the big screen as a twelve-year old!!!

An absolutely great movie experience......I have been twice and plan on one more trip. The whole package is great, I believe this is what IMAX is about. I have recommended this to 3 friends, all with very different tastes, ages 28-55 and the all three loved it. If you have been dissapointed in movies lately it is time to get back to the theatre for this one.

I was somewhat skeptical going into this, especially given disappointment with the final Matrix movie in IMAX. However, Avatar was outstanding on a number of levels:
1) Blurring CGI with actors - It is so well done that your mind stops trying to pick out what's real and what's synthetic
2) 3D - Lots of previous attempts have used 3D as a gimmick (i.e. lots of things flying at you). This is the first case where the entire movie is 3D as a medium.
3) Creative visuals - Pandora is breathtaking.
It was the first movie in a long time where I was happy to have paid every penny to see it. A must-see in IMAX.

The story here is so relevant and it is told clearly and beautifully using technology that will change the future of movie-making forever. I strongly recommend that you see this film in the theater and very strongly recommend that you see it in IMAX 3D if possible. It IS the most extraordinary film spectacle ever made and the subject matter is very uplifting. Only the deeply bitter and jaded could not appreciate the talent, creativity, and message on display here. GO.

The Imax 3D version of this movie is definitely the way to go! It's the most immersive experience you can have without actually being there when they filmed it. The politics are a little annoying and it's a little preachy. The story line is not a really NEW one (e.g. Disney's Pocahontas/Dances with Wolves) but the ride is worth it. Definitely and "E Ticket" ride!!

My girlfriend has a problem with suspension of disbelief so she doesn't like sci-fi. She loved this movie. I have always viewed movies as entertainment (not real life) so it is easy for me to suspend disbelief. In my opinion, Avatar is the best movie ever made. The story and effects are terrific and the 3D is a bonus - it totally immerses you into the story. If you haven't seen it in Imax 3D, go back and see it again at a good venue.
