I'm probably not adding anything that hasn't already been said but I was totally blown away (in a good way, not in a "Hurt Locker" way). It's a good story, with a lot of subtext (both environemental - think "Sierra Club" - and political - think "Iraq"), well-paced, and well-told. And Cameron simply takes movie-making to a new level with the innovative and creative use of motion-capture to create a new and believable reality.
And to those of us who scuba dive (I'm an instructor and I know Cameron dives as well), a lot of the weird creatures of Pandora have the familiar feel to us of anemones, featherduster worms, and jellyfish.

I had to wait 5 weekends to view this movie in IMAX 3-D but it was well worth it. I remember the first time I saw Terminator and couldn't believe the special effects. Outstanding, plus the sound system is terrific. Be sure to sit way back in the theater to take in all the action. Only criticism was the smoking of Ms. Weaver, it seemed unnecessary. Don't miss this movie!!

The movie was an absolute pleasure to watch. From the mind-blowing visuals, to the completely OUT THERE idea of linking your mind with a created individual that shares your DNA...this movie was just plain kick 4$$.
I watched this with blinders on because of the left's agenda with how evil humans are and how horrible our military is. I bet James Cameron wouldn't think the military was so horrible if his hometown was occupied by people who wanted to take away his freedom and liberty.
I also doubt that James Cameron lives in a 1000 sq. ft. house that has 1 furnace and 1 air conditioner.

great parallels with how human nature has already destroyed so much of earth's natural resources, ran out many tribes from their native lands and caused so many wars....and mostly for the sake of money!
however, the beauty of the movie both visually and spiritualy showed that good in the living does prevail.
i believe this movie's ironic and iconic monetary success is that it crosses all demographics across the world.
everyone is able to relate to and be in awe of it. although i wish people would not bring babies/kids under 5 movies like this - the movie theatres should take charge and not allow it just as they restrict the 17 and under in a R rated movie!

took my family to see this movie in IMAX 3D without any expectations and left there very satisfied. The special effects were awsome and the storyline was like a book you just cant put down. I dont normally review films but i just to with this one, you will not regret it... we had a great time afterwards talking about our favorite scenes and special effects!

I loved Avitar. Don't get me wrong. We say it in 3D at the theater and then went to IMAX.
The movie truly makes you believe in the world of Pandora and it's people, and the visual creativity i the world made me want to travel there! Enough so that we went the second time. It was an experience that everyone should see once - in a theater.
I don't think IMAX improved the experience, however - although it was MUCH louder and several n our group of 10 complained that it was too loud. IMAX put the movie too "in your face" and ,made it hard to catch the nuances around the screen.\
But I would say you have to see it once - where ever you choose to see it.

This film is Epic! James Cameron has created a masterpiece everyone can enjoy. I highly recommend viewing it in IMAX 3-D ONLY. I have seen it in regular Digital and its the difference between taking the Honda for a ride or cruising in the Lamborghini! Pace yourself with the jumbo soda's as the film being at just under 3 hours, you'll want to make sure you don't have to make a bathroom run. Cameron is Genius in every way as this film will heighten your brain and have you feeling as if you were part of this Epic masterpiece. Get there early as to position your self middle center to truely enjoy the experience.

Amazing is the first word that comes to mind. My favorite kind of sci-fi; creative, inventive (okay, a few borrowed ideas to help move the plot along), and NOT horror. But the whole 3D-iMax experience was outrageous! Want to see all of my movies just like that. Visuals were spectacular. The color was brillant. Sound a bit lacking, but that could've been my theatre. Go and enjoy!

This is unprecedented movie making. The story may have been predictable, but it was powerful regardless. I was immersed in this film for the entirety even though I suffer from back pain. I did not care how much my back ached, I was so intrigued. It took me away for a short while to a wonderful fantasy & fantastic effects! Cameron has opened the door to a new level of cinematic production that has in my opinion, been forever changed for the better.

Sometimes you don't have to experience great art to be thoroughly entertained. This movie is a lot of fun, like a roller coaster. I saw an interview with James Cameron before the movie was released and he stated that the predictable and PC story was intentional. In this case it is all about the technology and effects. And they are unbelievable! I loved the movie and the plot didn't get in the way and didn't insult me. It was great to experience the ride. Go out and have fun.

Gorgeous to look at and best use of 3D ever.
But the story is a thin and tired one told with a heavy hand and the characters were not developed, very two dimensional, ironically.
And the movie is way too long.

This movie is the first movie I've ever seen where I have actually felt I WAS transported to another world. The use of 3D was truly amazing and I actually felt a sense of vertigo during some of the flying. I urge anyone if they are still on the fence on seeing this movie at the theatre to go.
The story is one we have heard before but bears repeating for every generation.
I can't wait for Avatar 2 !!!

My wife and I were not sure about seeing Avatar. However we decided that if we were going to see the movie, we should get the as much of it as we could, so we chose to see the IMAX 3D. We were amazed by the experience. I found the 3D a bit disorienting at first, but that might just have been because the screen is SO BIG! I quickly settled in and really it was like being transported to Pandora. The plot was not rich or complicated, but if it had been it would have made it hard to take in. The performances of Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington were really well done considering that all the lush scenery was not there when they did their acting.
