I saw this movie in a "regular" cinema first and then saw it a second time in an IMax 3D cinema and I'm glad I did it this way. The first time I saw it I was so involved in the story that I missed physical details of the setting. In 3D this magical world was so real I wanted to reach out and touch everything. Absolutely amazing movie which I'd probably rate as the best movie I've ever seen.

This was my first IMAX 3D movie other than the theme parks. It made the movie so real I could not take my eyes off the screen. I'm usually not a late night person, but this movie went till midnight and I never even yawned. Highly recommend this format.

One of the greatest if not the greatest movies I've ever watched. I have seen it twice, the second with my wife which was unsure if she wanted to go and now after watching it she to wants too go back. Do your self a favor if you haven't already and go see Avatar. Don't wait until it goes to DVD this movie deserves to be seen at the theater and if possible in a IMAX theater. You will be blown away!

I can't imagine anything better than the IMAX 3D experience for viewing this movie! Not once did my attention wander because the special effects are just incredible. For me it was well worth the price of admission plus a great way to kick back and relax for 3 hours!

I typically don't review movies, but this was one of the greats. Nearly 3 hours, but you don't feel it while you're in there. This is the first IMAX 3D movie that I ever watched, so I have no frame of reference for the 3D effects but the CG was phenomenal. The storyline was good, though a tad predictable at times but it was a touching story nonetheless.
I would definitely recommend this movie to others. My wife was upset at the amount of money is was going to cost to take our whole family to see the movie, but when we walked out she swore up and down it was worth every penny.
Happy Viewing!

Avatar is a compelling story told in a way that grabs your attention and holds it for the whole two and a half hours. The 3D enhances that experience, but isn't essential. My only mild complaint is that two central characters - the executive in charge of the base and the Marine colonel - are played as characatures. This reduces the plausability of the story. Adding some complexity to their characters would have added to the film.

I had no interest in seeing this movie, but because it was becoming such a big deal, I went and am so glad I did. I loved this movie. I saw it in IMAX 3D. It was absolutely worth the ticket price. I definitely feel that 3D is a must for viewing this movie. The fictional world it's set in demands the highest quality picture you can get. I heard someone say it's what they imagine watching a movie on LSD would be like. It's a long movie, but didn't feel like it. There's one character in the movie I didn't like, would've left them out if I was James Cameron, but otherwise, to me, a perfect movie. Quit being skeptical and just see it. You won't regret it.

It's no wonder why this movie will become # 1 in boxoffice sales! The technology and creativity of this film is beyond anything created before. The I-MAX experience is "awesome"!! My daughter had already seen Avatar at the regular theater, but not 3-D. I took her to I-MAX Avatar, and she said it was like watching an entire different movie!!! I Can't remember the last time I watched a movie twice, and I went to Avatar twice in as many weeks...it's amazing!!!!

James Cameron has created a stunningly-detailed and fantastically beautfiul world -- the planet Pandora -- for this sci-fi action adventure
film. While the overall story line is not particularly novel, it sadly parallels what has been happening on earth ever since the middle of the last century and is therefore important for it be played out on the big screen.

This was my first IMAX 3D experience and theirs no going back! As for the movie plot and concept this film reminds us of our highest and lowest potentials. We as a species have a choice to create heaven or hell in our lives, it just depends on which one we focus on. This movie vibrates at the deepest levels of our conciseness, so no matter who you are, where you come from, or what you believe in as to why we're "here". You will feel something after watching this movie! Iv read that some people experienced depression after seeing Avatar and others felt joy and enthusiasm for the future. This only strengthens the idea that its up to us to decide where we want our minds to operate from.

Cameron is a blockbuster action movie master. Special effects are unequalled. If you plan to see this movie, I strongly recommend the IMAX 3D version. It will have you immersed in the action. Stephen Lang's performance as the antagonist was superb. It was a notable exception to the otherwise relatively weak story line and acting found in this film and others of its genre. Hardcore action adventure and/or CGA fans will not be disappointed!

This is easily one of the greatest visual movies I've ever seen. The world of Pandora is great to watch in 3D, and I don't know if this makes me a bad guy but I was rooting for the marines instead of the na'vi lol. The best actor in the movie is the villain, he's a badass and then Sigourney Weaver. The last hour of the movie is action-packed and proves James Cameron is the best blockbuster action movie director in the business with no shaky-cam or constant explosions with people running away from them in slow-mo. The story is a little predictable but there are still some surprises you won't see coming. If you live in NYC, watch it at the Lincoln Square IMAX theater, thats the best IMAX theater in the city,

Definitely worth seeing on IMAX! A formulaic film it's true, yet, what do most go to see anyway? Something that works and well! This movie definitely takes one to another place and offers a smorgasbord of sights and virtual sensations to absorb. The technology alone is worth experiencing in a theater, and as the first of it's kind, don't miss out. Many will follow in years to come which quite likely will eclipse this new way of watching movies, yet, like Star Wars and other break through methods in entertainment, it's not one to be missed.
Sit back, take it all in and enjoy the ride.

The effects are quite dazzling, the artwork and compositing are top notch, the acting (facial capture?) was first rate, the pacing rolls along without too many lulls, and the climactic battles are pretty intense..., BUT the James Horner score made me think "Titanic" way too many times, the storyline was almost comical in its predictability, the political content was cartoonish at best, and on and on. It was a fun trip, but it ain't going to change the world. There was no "message" regarding how to deal with greed, cultural exploitation, special interests, military power or racial/tribal identification. Perhaps, though, the seed may well have been planted in some impressionable minds that native cultures should be celebrated and preserved.

I was very pleasantly surprised on many levels. All effects looked very real, very believable, not overdone, and there was a deep richness of detail in character development, plot development, storyline, and dialogue. The setting was intensely stylistic, original, and richly detailed, reminiscent of "Dune" and the "Alien" series, and vast in scale and native culture, much like "Dances With Wolves". The 3D effect well supported the "surreal" tone of a rich fantasy. The other effects, acting, and setting were very believable and gave significant reality to the conflicts portrayed. The primary antagonist was an extremely interesting and memorable character, admirably capable, devoted, and "assertive".

I agree with others that this theme is a tad overdone. Not only so but the political agenda was a hair obvious, very one-sided and frankly quite humorous to me. That being said, pretty cool characterization and fanTAStic special effects. The 3-D was fun allbeit slightly annoying (wearing those big glasses for almost 3 hrs). But I enjoyed it and would recommend it for the discerning viewer (God bless our armed forces - without them we have no freedom). :) 3.5 stars! Definitely sets the standard for special effects. I look fwd to movies with better messages done to this standard.

If you haven't seen this movie yet in IMAX 3D, you NEED to. The flying scenes make you feel like you are flying--much like the Soarin' Disney attraction. This film will make you question your morals and wonder what you would do if you were in a situation like Jake Sully. The basis of the movie parallels our society with the growing dilemma of our encroachment on nature and wildlife. The colors are vibrant and beautiful, and the animals, ships, and mechs are highly detailed and realistic. You will leave the theater wondering how almost 3 hours passed so quickly, and wanting more of this masterpiece. If you do not find yourself sucked into the world of Pandora, then you do not have an understanding of beauty.

Saw Avatar the first time at the 3D Theater in Lisbon, CT. It was awesome. Took some friends to see at IMAX thinking it would be even better, but was very disappointed. Some scenes were blurry, and the overall 3D effect was too much. If you are travelling a distance thinking IMAX is the way to see this, don't waste your time and money. A "regular" 3D theater, in my 40-something year old opinion, was the better viewing experience.

Great special effects but I think that we have come to expect that. The movie made me think about the white mans injustice to the native Americans and I am white. First one must remember that this is a movie and it's purpose is to entertain. There are many who have criticized the movie as having a green agenda or being racist or spending a new age gospel. While some of that may be true again the main purpose is to entertain and that it does and does well. Visually it is wonderful and the 3D version adds an element that pulls you into the movie. The world of Pandora is the real star of the movie.
