My friends and I saw it for the second time and we were still as thrilled as the first. I can not believe the leaps in the technology. Also, I have been reading science fiction novels and viewing science fiction movies since I was 9 years old and I am now 63 years of age. It never gets old when someone creates an alternative reality and then draws us in where we feel apart of that reality. This film has raised the bar for upcoming films. What's next has probably not been invented or attempted. It makes for exciting viewing possibilities.

Until I saw this, my favorite scene in a movie was in Jurasic Park when they first look up to see the dinosaurs grazing. I have a new favorite now. All in all I felt that it was a special thing to be able to witness this notable confluence of creativity, technical excelence and flawless execution. I am looking forward to seeing the scenes that were edited out and the implied sequels.

This is simply the BEST movie EVER!!!!! The CGI characters have a realism that you can’t help connecting with them as if they were human actors. I have seen his film 6 times and eagerly await the Blu-Ray release so I can watch over and over again. Superb visuals and great acting make this a heartfelt movie that will capture you completely. I never realized other people were in the theater while I watched it! AWESOME!!! AMAZING!!! and Out-Worldly Magnificent!!!

While the plot at times is predictable, I was moved to tears many times by the themes that were beautifully depicted in this film:
We are intrinsically linked to our environment and each other by the energy that courses through us; our voices have the power to heal and to nurture life, vitality; and women can be warriors of great physical, emotional and spiritual strength, which allows the men they love to soften and be seen for who they are inside, without armor and machismo.
Avatar is a visual epic that will resonate with me for a long time. Thank you Mr. Cameron for sharing with us such a stunning view of what is possible.

This is the second time I've gone to see this movie, but the first time I've reviewed it. I saw it in IMAX 3D at the Cinema du Lux in White Plains. Yes, it is apparently a LieMax, but I still think it was worth the money. The movie is incredible, and I am so glad James Cameron brought his 16 year baby to such vibrant life. I highly recommend this movie to ANYONE!

I really waffled about seeing this movie until I heard how massive the box office has been. Definitely a must see in 3D as James Cameron intended it to be viewed. Get to the theater early since you don't want to watch from the front rows. Some parts dragged a little, but overall good pacing. Basic storyline predictable, but the setting is beyond normal imagination. Some scenes are too intense for younger children. My 8yr old niece cried at the last battle scene. 10yr old nephew enjoyed it a lot.

I have never felt more 'in' a movie than this one. I actually 'missed' it for days afterwards. So I went back with my girlfriend and watched it on IMAX 3D instead. It then went from Excellent to 'In A World of Its Own'.
The character development was second to none. Only one comment was out of place (Colonel Quaritch's words about 'fighting terrorism with terrorism'). It made little sense to accuse the Na'vi of terrorizing the Humans when the latter were destroying the Na'vi habitat for access to the unobtainium underneath it. Beyond that, it was a perfect movie.
I should close by adding that the real difference between 3d and IMAX was the sound system (i.e. I never knew sound clarity could make so much difference ina movie either)
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I first saw this movie on Christmas Day in a small theater that seats 75 people. After I saw this movie there I knew that I would have to see it in IMAX 3D. The 3D is the best I have seen in a long time, honestly since the 1950's 3D rush (remember those red and blue paper eye glasses). All I'm saying is "My Bloody Valentine," "Monsters vs Aliens," all bad 3D, but Avatar was so well done.
The best way I can describe the plot to this movie is merge FernGully and Dances with Wolves and you have Avatar. Fortunately I love both of those movies so I really enjoyed Avatar. All in all, this was a fantastic movie.

While the storyline is nothing beyond Hollywood predictable (put Dances with Wolves in a bowl, mix in your favorite "save the environment" movies, sprinkle a romance in and toss) it is timed well, and it is touching. What sets this movie apart is the stunning visual effects. We've all seen live action with computer graphics movies, but I've never seen one that paid this much attention to detail. The 3D effects were understated and completely effective. For most movies, you can wait for the DVD if you have a decent TV and speakers at home. Avatar is a must see in 3D IMAX.

Fantastic movie, great technology, incredible vision by Cameron to create this new world from whole cloth. Very Tolkein-ish in that way.
Saw it in 3-D at an IMAX. First 3-D movie for me and it's a pretty good technology. Still has limitations - you can't tilt your head way to one side or you'll screw up the lens polarization.
Anywho - this is a film that will become a groundbreaking classic. It's going to become a standard, a must see for anyone who likes movies.
The very basic theme of the movie is not new, but the setting, the concept of living vicariously through an Avatar are presented in such tremendous detail that you really believe it all - you buy in.
Go see this in IMAX 3D if possible, or just regular 3D.

I have seen Avatar twice now. It was just as good the 2ND time as the 1ST! Avatar is more than a movie, it is an experience! Imax and 3D should be required viewing! After all, that is how James Cameron intended it to be viewed. Sight and sound from Avatar draw you into Pandora, a digital world, and, once it envelops you, it becomes a living, breathing, REAL, and beautiful world that is nothing short of AWESOME!!!

"IMAX Experience" is not IMAX. In my theater it was just a bigger screen. I would recommend you skip "The IMAX Experience" altogether.
The 3D was as good as advertised. Just enough to give the characters a 3 dimensional look. Try to sit as close to the center line as possible.
The Animation is the best I have seen, the focus on facial details in close-ups makes the characters real and you forget that you are watching computer generated characters.
Plot and character development is everything in a movie and AVATAR is an exceptional movie.
Go see AVATAR!

I WAS A SKEPTIC GONING INTO THIS MOVIE...AND I CAME OUT BALLED OVER. IT WAS A SPECTACULAR CINEMATIC WONDER. If you went to this movie expecting Oscar-worthy acting or a Pulitzer-prize-winning script, you'd be disappointed. If you came with an open mind, ready to be immersed and entertained, then you got exactly that. This was a wonderfully animated and exhilarating ride. I watch all genres of film, including Euro Art House and International Indie, and I can still appreciate a good Hollywood blockbuster. Suspend your disbelief and just have fun.

I really did enjoy the movie. Cameron does an amazing job of telling a "told to death" story. The SFX were the most amazing I've ever seen, and I can definitely see why everyone is raving about "the next level" of 3-D. But if you take away the FX, you could have called this movie "Pocahontas Dances with Wolves". There is not one original idea in the entire story. 3-D is the *only* thing putting this movie at the top of the heap....but its so breathtakingly beautiful...that it probably deserves it.
