The Story as been told before. The themes running throughout the movie are re-branded in sense but with the groundbreaking special effects and stunning visuals in a far off future exotic planet, you are left in awe and amazement of what James Cameron has created. You literally think this place really does exists. The Enywa draws you in.....

Watching movies has been taken to a whole new level with this IMAX 3D movie.
The movie itself is an awesome ride/experience. Everything is so believable now. Coupled with the IMAX 3D technology, it totally made the movie stand out.

Easily the best movie I have seen this year. The 3D was great, not to much, not to little. Just enough to make you forget that you were in a movie theatre. It actually left me a little disoriented when the movie ended and the lights came up. Some of the characters were a little stock but the main characters more then compensated for it. The sheer imagination and detail that went into the aliens was astonishing. Again some of the lines, esp for the ex-marines, were very stock but that's only maybe 20 lines of the whole movie. There was a song that played during the romantic scene that sounded suspiciously like "My Heart Will Go On" however. Overall still the best movie of the year, so far.

If you see this in IMAX there's only one way to describe it, BIG. No make that HUGE! The effects were amazing, if you're into that sorta thing. The story was exciting but there were one or two times when it seemed to drag. At 2 hours and 40 minutes, you should know what you are getting yourself into. Kids will love it. Action junkies will love it. Even environmentalists will love it. Fans of animation will love it. The acting was very good, but because of the enormity of this film they feel stretched a little thin. Overall, it's definitely worth the money. Treat yourself and see it in IMAX 3D to get the full experience!

I would like to have seen more plot twists and less attempt at humor. There were a few scenes where characters attempted the humorous bit to get the audience to laugh, but it wasn't really believable, and left me wondering "why did they do that?"
I thought the 3D-IMAX movie experience was awesome. I thought the internal plot could have used some more development- it was a bit too predictable, but a great movie experience none-the-less. The action scenes had good tension.
I'd see a sequel, but Cameron... dude, make the me wonder what's going to happen. Give me a plot twist.

I saw this last night with my dad, and it was UNBELIEVABLE! The animation was out of this world.. the story was incredible.. the romance was to die for! Definitely recommend seeing this movie! I'm DEFINITELY going to see it again!!!!!!!

Another note, the IMAX 3d glasses are MUCH better than the REAL3D. I saw this in both and I preferred IMAX not because of the screen but because of the glasses...

IMAX 3-D = UNBELIEVABLE
The story turns "War of the World's" on its head by introducing humans as the aggressor on a peaceful planet and goes on to symbolize the director's distaste for military/industrial imperialism.
All questions, such as how a human can "drive" the body of an Avatar, or how the biology of planet Pandora "connects" all its living things, are abandoned due to the pace of the story and its stunning beauty.
I love how a man who has lost the use of his human legs goes on to become a warrior and hero, in some ways, a prophet or messiah to the Na'vi people. The sense of freedom this movie gave me is inspiring.

Good Movie: Great Experience

Although the storyline is admittedly derivative and the characters are borderline-stock, the characters and the storyline are more than good enough to support the glorious visuals that really make this movie a great experience. CGI-Live Shot interface was seamless in the IMAX version, and you truly felt surrounded by the alien forest.
The political messaging was puerile and simplistic, but thin enough to be ignored in favor of the over-all experience.
I think this will go down as the year’s best SciFi.

Fantastic is just one of the words that could be used to describe James Cameron's epic Avatar. That would be an under statement without a doubt. The most visually arresting film that I have seen in years and the ever in the IMAX 3D. The night sequences were the best with the phosphorescent light lingering within every eye shot of the film. Acting was great with Worthington and Saldana at the leads. Great love story , incredible action and location. Vintage Cameron, welcome back James we missed you immensely.

Ok, So what does a 47 year old guy think? First of all, they could have cut 40 minutes out of it. But other than that you really feel like you're going to another world. . .when in reality all they did is shoot everything on a soundstage.

I saw this twice over the weekend in IMAX 3D and really recommend that format. The film impresses because of all the little details captured and the "reality" of all the digital animation. The motion capture is way beyond Lord of the Rings. Kudos to Mr. Cameron. Please start working NOW on the two sequels mentioned in todays NY Times!

Visually speaking, this is the greatest movie I have ever seen. The story was good enough to stand on its own, but I still don't know why anyone would see it in other than 3D. Night time in the jungles of Pandora was totally ethereal. Cameron and others who had artistic input for the film have the kind of imagination and vision that I can't even fathom. I'm happy I got to go along for the ride.

What an amazing movie. i'm not easily impressed by Sci Fi movies, but this one pulled me in on the opening scene and held my attention for the whole 2 1/2 hours. twelve foot blue Avators riding prehistoric flying birds-what could be more fun than that.? The whole jungle scenery was so life-like that you forgot that it was computer anamation. On top of the adventure, love story, and fight for survival, there was the underlying message that we are all part of the universe and every living thing depends on the rest of us in order to survive. I'm 63 and romantic comedies are my thing, but I absolutely loved this movie and will go back several more times.

The CGI/Graphics were stunning in 3D. It was a little like watching a 2 1/2 hour video game. Although some have said that the story line was a tad weak, I disagree. I feel that the story was truly different and fresh. I would have given it a five star rating, but got a little turned off with the subtle political message. (You know; mother earth, keep it "Green", heal the world, junk...). I wonder how green the production, advertising, and transportation was in the making of this film??? At a little over 300 Mil, I bet they buried a few carbon credits...

I first saw this movie at a normal theater on opening night, and went and saw it again in IMAX 3D. I have to say, this movie feels like it was meant for 3D. All the scenes came to life and put me smack dab in the middle of them.
James Cameron never fails to amaze. And hey, the cast wasn't bad either.

If you see jsut one movie in 2009, this should be the one. James Cameron pulled a rabbit out of his hat providing a great story line and visual effects. The 3D version on IMAX takes it a step further helping to immerse viewers into the story in a way not possible with regular video.
Don't worry if you don't have these features close by. You'll still be treated to a great story and animation.

I was one of seven family members whom went to see Avatar. Two of us got dizzy and had to leave the theater within the first 10 minutes of the show. I happened to be one of the two. I have never been prone to motion sickness. So feeling dizzy came as a surprise to me. The rest of my family enjoyed the movie. What I did see I liked. Several people commented that it was similar to Ferngully. I would like to see the movie again on a regular screen.
