A beautiful movie that will become a historical landmark. Marks a change in the industry possible bigger than the introduction of color.
So realistic it allows one to easily suspend disbelief and become totally involvend in the story. A good love story, great battle scenes, 3-D that doesn't overwhelm with gimmicks. What's not to like.

Watching this movie in 3-D IMAX never gets old, and the extended scenes were fun to spot out while watching the movie. Although they were mostly scenic flavor scenes with little meaning, who is going to complain about seeing more of the beautiful Pandoran environment, and the animals that inhabit it.
See it again in 3-D IMAX while you still have the chance, and if you've never experienced it in IMAX, what are you waiting for? The difference in the aural experience alone is worth it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

James Cameron has done it again. This is a movie with love, romance, respect, ethics, good vs. evil...and I'm a physicist, dealing in optics. The IMAX 3D is fabulous! Congratulations to all who were involved with this film.

Avatar is definitly the best movie I have ever seen. I will recommend it to anybody I know. I drove 160 miles to see it yesterday. My mom watched this with me together. She does't speak any English and couldn't understand one single word, but she was just in awe and enjoyed it all the time. This is amazing.

I have most likely seen this movie over a hundred times. This Movie is incredibly phenomenal, if I could, I would watch this movie every day in IMAX 3D. It all is incredibly real, It feels like you're walking on Pandora right along side Jake and Neytiri. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana are just such amazing actors, Meeting Sam is on my bucket list ! I feel like this review does this movie no justice. You could say I'm obsessed, that would be the biggest understatement you would ever say.
I recommend this movie over, and over, and over.

Better than the first time! There were Directors cut scenes that really enriched the movie! This was the 5th time I saw it, the 3rd at the theater. I would and DO recommend this movie to my friends and family and anyone else that will listen!
Also, each time I see it, it seems to not last as long.........am I just getting used to sitting there for that long? I guess so! It's worth it!

This movie gave validity to some of my deepest beliefs ie: other planets and life forms; w/o making jokes or instilling fear. The people who created the basic idea of the story as well as e1 who had a creative part in making it movie screen ready, were absolutely brilliant! I LOVED everything about.:..the brilliant colors, the amazing wildlife and foliage, the beatiful story, the truely American interference, as well as the basic human goodness, and the perfect story bookending. I've seen Avatar twice, the original 3d which was wonderful; and the re-release, in3d Imax which was SPECTACULAR! Thankyou, for Avatar....

Watching Avatar Special Edition in IMAX 3D is equivalent to driving a Bugatti Veyron on the Autobahn, watching Michael Jordan play in the NBA Finals, seeing a Great White shark on a dolphin-watching cruise, or drinking a 50 year old wine in Napa Valley. It is simply the best thing to experience in the best place to experience it, period. Aside, from the movie being good, it is the overall experience of Avatar in its finest form that makes it the film of a generation. This is my second time seeing it in IMAX. I refused to watch it on DVD. The additional footage is not always obvious. However, the parts that I actually noticed added just a tad more to the understanding of the primary character's growth and also dug a little more emotion out of the viewer for the climax. If you haven't seen it the first time, see it the second time. Don't let this experience pass you by! It was built for IMAX 3D!

First of all, forget the hype and abysmal marketing of this release along with the titillating stories of Navi sex; the arrogant hypocrites that like to spread hate or fear by warning you not to see it; or the people that are motivated by finding fault with everything, no matter how good it is.
For those that are looking for kinky Navi sex - stay home. Nothing that has not already been intimated or figured out has been added to this. While there is something very mildly unique about its implementation their is nothing particularly exciting or suggestive about all of less then 10 sec of "added" footage..
Also there is only a couple of obviously "added" footage. Most of the "added" footage is integrated into the existing more and can't actually be noticed unless you are very familiar with the movie. However some of the "added" footage is absolutely extraordinary, emotional and unexpected, even to a die hard fan like me. Needless to say I found it to be time and money well spent. For those that have seen it and have not realized it yet, Avatar has a multitude of levels of depth and meaning well beyond the basic entertainment level. But then to quote a line from the movie to the skeptics, some of which have never seen it, "How can you fill a cup that is already full."
For example: many critics that say the title song was a feeble attempt to create a hit tune from the movie, I say, if you listen or read the lyrics of the song you may soon realize that it is actually part of the movie even though it occurs during the titles. It is the thoughts of Jake as he passes through the eye of Enya into his next life.
For those who feel content to wait for the next DVD, please understand that this movie was made for 3D and while the 2D version is good, it loses a lot in translation. If you want to see it in 3D at home you will have to wait about a year and a half and spend around $3000 on equipment. Ouch!
Finally I must explain why I put "added footage" in quotes. Personally I do not believe any footage was added. I believe that the rerelease was the original version and some bureaucratic executive moron or bean counter demanded it be shortened in its original release. As such I believe the "extra footage" is actually the inclusion of the deleted scenes in the original release.
This version flows better and provides a better understanding of why certain things happened. In particular I simply find it hard to believe that one of the final emotional scenes was deleted from the first release without so level of duress as it was so well done and had so much meaning.
As such I strongly urge anyone even is thinking about seeing it to go for it and see it very soon as give the poor marketing of the release it is unlikely to be around for very long.
For those who have not seen it at all, consider yourselves lucky and privileged as you missed the first release and avoided paying for what I believe was a cut up version.
As such I urge you in the strongest terms to see this watershed movie in 3D while you still have the opportunity.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The fastest 3 hours I can remember! I was worried that this was a movie about blue people running around in the jungle, this is much more than that! It is a combination of HALO (Xbox 360), Star Wars, Planet of the Apes and any other out of this world movie you like! The graphics will blow your mind! You will find yourself trapped inside the world of an Avatar. A MUST SEE!! Go see it now in IMAX 3D before you miss it again!

The Wife and I went to the original IMAX 3D movie when it came out. We didn't figure that anything could beat that. Well, we were wrong. The new release is better than the original. Even though it is longer, you really don't notice it. If you want to truly "Experience" a movie, go see both the original and then the new release. I promise you will not be sorry. The re-release was my first time watching Avatar on the big screen so naturally I chose to see it in IMAX and I must say that it was a visually life changing experience. It was simply mind blowing! I purchased the DVD/Blu Ray combo pack a while back and it just doesn't do it justice. A+ on the detail!
As for the added footage, it added a lot to the viewers understanding of the plot. Even if it was just a 30 second snippet, it told you why an event happened. I think that you should definitely watch the original first and then the extended that way you have something to wonder about.
Overall, worth the extra money to see it in IMAX or 3D.

As happy 60+ old folks, hubby and I don't typically go to movies..we have all the other methods for seeing good movies after release, Our enchantment with "going to the movies" ended when we got tired of the popcorn smell, the cost of the popcorn, cell phones ringing, texting key clicks, live movie reviews behind us-- while movie was in process, screaming kids and arguing parents. We didn't go to the initial release of Avatar, we watched the DVD..but clearly saw what we were missing. AVATAR is the ONE movie EVERYONE should EXPERIENCE..not see, EXPERIENCE. It is the perfect statement of many characteristics of human culture and social behaviour. 10 STARS for artistic and audio creativity in every stunning moment by both the actors and the computer generated special effects. DO NOT MISS THIS THEATER SHOWING YOU WILL NEVER "see it" on your 102 Inch TV!

I didn't get to see it the first time it came out and was very disappointed that it left from the movie theaters so quick. But I was so happy when I found out it came out again. I saw it in IMAX 3D. I had already seen it at home but this was great. Everything looked so real. I do have to admit, however, that I had a migrane while I was watching it and had to close my eyes during some parts because they got me dizzy. (The migrane was not caused by the movie though) I would have definitely enjoyed it much more without the migrane. It's an amazing movie and a lot of work and detail is put into it. Definitely compares to movies like the Matrix, Jurassic Park, Transformers, etc. I recommend it!!!

I admit to missing Avatar when it first came out and honestly had no idea what the premise was until I saw it this past Friday night in IMAX 3D. I am VERY glad I waited, because this was hands down the best movie I have ever seen! My mouth was open for 3 hours, and I left the theater speechless and longing to go back to such a wonderful world James Cameron had created.
