Visually amazing, with realistic 3D at IMAX. A real step forward in this regard, and by itself makes the movie worth seeing. The story, however, is fairly standard and predictable.

Our two sons (23 and 16) loved Avatar, my husband gave it a 'B' and I and our daughter 15) didn't like it that much at all.
Great CGI, lots of dizzy, fast paced action, simplistic plot - Titanic was better.

This movie was amazing! I saw it in IMAX 3D. The sound and picture quality were the best that I've seen so far.
I was surprised that there were no teens and hardly any 20-somethings in the packed theater! But everyone who *was* there, LOVED it! It's one of the few movies I've heard people clap for in years!
Go see it! You won't be sorry!

This was one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen, from storyline to the digital effects. The movie certainly raised the bar on visual effects. The alien world was real and believable and it was the first movie that I could feel emotion from a computer generated being.
People who can't see the movie in IMAX 3D are really at a loss b/c it was such a powerful movie. I will go see it again, maybe 3 times before it leaves theatres. I hope this one breaks all kinds of records.

Imagine how audiences felt when they saw "The Jazz Singer," the first talking picture. Imagine how audiences felt when they saw their first technicolor movie. These events were huge milestones in the history of cinema. With Avatar, we are lucky enough to see the beginning of a new era of theatrical motion pictures. Despite the fact that the story is recycled from Aliens and other sources, this movie is a blockbuster. Forget watching Avatar on blu-ray or on your iPhone. This movie MUST be see in 3-D. The technology used to create the world and inhabitants of Pandora is incredible. We have seen the future of motion pictures and it is Avatar. Thanks to Jim Cameron for saving the movie industry.

Ok - first the "not so good". The story is old: big, bad corporation trying to take land from poor indigenous species is aided by former bad guy now turned good by the lure of the pure lifestyle of the "people".
With that said, the "good" was that the story was well-told with sufficient acting chops thanks to Sigourney Weaver and Giovanni Ribisi (with honorable mention to Michelle Rodriguez).
The "best" was the cinematography. I saw it in IMAX 3D and can't imagine seeing it any other way - the art of the imagined world, the creatures, the attention to...

WOW! Special effects were outstanding. We drove an hour away just to see it in an IMAX theater. It was worth it! The anti-war and environmental undertones were made clear in the storyline, but not "in your face." A very well-made movie, but not for the young kids for sure. I would see it again in the theater, of course in IMAX 3D!

This movie was awesome, very different then what I expected. I thought I would not like it because I am not a huge sci fi fan but I loved the story and characters. There was some predictability but it didn't ruin the movie at all

No need to say it, but it was Awesome. One flaw. I saw it on a regular screen and in IMAX in 3D. I do not recommend it on IMAX. If you do go to see it that way you have to look stright ahead and turn your head when looking at other parts of the screen otherwise things in your peripheral vision are blurred. And one slight turn of the head and the subtitles are blurring. I got a neck ache at the Imax but I highly recommed it in regular 3D!

It's hard to fathom how much imagination one would need to create a world like Pandora but the team who created "Avatar" has it in leaps and bounds. Excellent special effects, beautifully supportive musical score, good acting, and a strong storyline. The story was fast-paced through the whole film (which says a lot for a movie pushing 3 hours long). I strongly recommend seeing it in IMAX 3D.

It's good ... the videogrophy, CGI are unmatched. IMAX 3D transports you to Pandora. But really, the best storyline we could come up with is a sci-fi rendition of "Dancing with Wolves?"

I can't think of a single movie that moved me to want to go back to the movie theatre and see again. Then I saw Avatar in IMAX 3D. I will see this movie again before it leaves the theatre. This movie deserves to be seen in IMAX 3D ! Although the story line has been used many times before, this movie presents it in a new and extremely imaginative way that transports the willing viewer to a fantasy land of pure awe and passion.
