Avatar was visually spectacular, and the special effects in Imax are truly incredible. The plot was solid in terms of its outline, but the actual "story" of the movie - i.e., the unfolding of the plot, was relatively fast and superficial. There was not a lot of development of the characters so much as a fast paced move through the plot to get to the action sequences. Another 30 minutes with just a little more downtime from the action that focused on the story would have made this movie five stars. Don't get me wrong, though - I will go see it again.

Visually, this movie was artistically amazingly beautiful. I was also captivated with the story line and its connection to "the discovery of America (i.e. European Conquistadores)." One can also connect it to the history of the Native Americans.

This movie definately sets a new standard that other movies will try to match but I'm sure that few will. The IMAX 3D experience is the only way to fully appreciate the minute details that went in to making this movie so believable. To watch the entire movie in 3D was perfect. None of the "Put glasses on now" that I have seen in numerous other "3D" movies (even at IMAX). You are so immersed in the story and the stunning visuals that you almost forget that you are actually wearing the glasses. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone - not just scifi/fantasy fans, but anyone who wants to see a great movie.
All in all, I think Cameron put together a truly epic movie. An absolute must see!

Wonderful seeing this in Imax, not sure the experience would have been as good. Like sitting through a 2 1/2 hour Disney ride. Scenes were a little dark (byproduct of 3D technology), seats were horrible (theater oversold the showing, we were early but still had to sit in front row center), headache (also byproduct of 3D), and noisy rude people beside with ill-behaved kids. Thin plot. Would I recommend? Yes. Do I want to see it again? No. Visually is it one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen? Yes.

Well worth the money! This is the greatest cinematic experience that I have ever had. The plot is somewhat predictable, but the epic nature of the 3D experience and the fascinating and wonderful world of Pandora generously make up for it. Two thumbs way up!

Ignoring the leftist aspects...a good movie. Filming was great, story good, outcome could have been improved with Earth NOT supporting the mercenary forces attack and firing the manager. Very anti-military/capitalism while using capitalism to make the producer's money. Thus, very hypocritical...

Really enjoyed the special effects in this movie. Digital representation was excellent. Felt like the plot was much too cliche and lacked inspiration leaving the viewer with little to think about that has not been said before. I would have enjoyed a more creative representation of the "bad" guys and not the same ones that are seen in every other movie. The WOW of 3D was not consistent throughout the movie. Just had to enjoy it for what it is.

I,like some of your other reviewers, I was skeptical about this movie.....I thought, here we go again...another cgi stormfest of explosions
and redundant effects........Boy was I wrong..
After reading more into what the plot was about, it sparked my interest in seeing the movie...I've always been a fan of the 'underdog' and this movie had plenty to involve you in the plot...
Too much complexity would have ruined the visual content...Cameron does an excellent job of marrying effects with storyline..... To me this experieince was like seeing Star Wars for the first time......I hope it makes the millions it deserves....

From beginning to end, you are a silent third party to the movie. Graphics , actually the whole darn movie has ultimate details that you could just go on and on. James Cameron has topped anything anybody ever did, and if he went broke doing it........he went out with a severe bang that can be heard from anywhere. Its about time somebody got original.

This was a GREAT!! movie. We drove in bad snow conditions to see this movie. It was worth the trip. It was AMAZING, EXCITING, WONDERFUL!!. Great special effects. The 3D made it seem so real. Like we were there. The time went by so fast. I would recomend this movie to anyone interested in Fantasy and action movies.

If you go with an understanding of Mr. Cameron's agenda and are able to put that aside, this is a stunningly beautiful movie that is incredible in 3D. The characters are engaging and, although the premise is a little far-fetched, the story is believable.

Simply on a different level from all other movies. It's very necessary to see it in 3D, definitely worth the extra $5. More than anything it is an experience, and adventure in a different universe. Way better than any of the biggest blockbusters like transformers or spiderman. Might even beat Lord of the Rings and Star Wars/Star Trek. I plan on going to see it again!

My boyfriend kinda dragged me along to see it and I wasn't totally convinced that I would like it but it was so good that we're going back to see it again next weekend. We saw it in IMAX 3D and it was totally worth the money. Avator was awesome, I highly recommend it!
