This movie is beyond words....it is truely a masterpiece and an incredible display of filmmaking in it's time. The world of Pandora is exciting, captivating, enthralling, and magical. No matter what your age may be you will be wisked away into this fascinating world and taken for the ride of your life. This is a must see movie. While I am certain that I will be buying the DVD when it's released and it will be an amazing addition to anyone's collection, I must say that you HAVE to experience this movie in Imax 3D. It's simply phenomenal and it's and experience you'll never forget! 2 thumbs up and if i had more thumbs i'd put those up too. Amazing movie!!!

Wow! I just saw it on IMAX 3D. The movie was unbelievable. My mouth dropped numerous times, and I was completely captivated the entire time. The story is a little predictable, but still incredible. The movie IS long, but there are NO long drawn out, unnecessary parts! GO SEE IT!!! AND SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY TO SEE IT IN IMAX!!!

Outstanding. Traditional 3D should have a fork stuck in it because it's done. Not sure I'd see all movies in IMAX but certainly ones with as much technical content as AVATAR presented.
Great movie. Hard to believe almost three hours had passed when it was over.

This is an excellent movie! Yes it has it all just like I have been hearing for months now.
It was like a view of the conquests of the Americas mixed in with today's enviroment issues and Harry Potter.
Even reminded me of my own journal entries and short story I have been writing.

Great movie but the Imax 3-D theater in Providence RI is a dump. Its a hot messy nasty smelling place. The seats are uncomfortable with broken cup holders and rips in the fabric. They have problems with double selling tickest The staff are a scary, dirty and poor looking bunch, wrinkled clothes with stains and sweat marks . We loved the movie but will never go see another movie at Imax in Providence RI. We are not happy and only in our reserved seats because we got there first before the other people that were also sold the same seats and we ordered them earlier in the day on line the theater is a slum and if you want to complain to the staff you must speak spanish.

It was a very good movie. It is not best picture of the year caliber to me, except the great special effects. The story was not original burrowing from his (Cameron) movie Aliens the theme & star Sigourney Weaver & indian foklore & other movies & TV programs such as Star Trek, They Died with Their Boots on, Little Big Man, Hobbit, etc. I know it is a movie but it seems to parallel real life with massive killings & destruction of the environment in the name of religion & money. Not very spiritual or hopeful but definitely entertaining.

The plot is as other reviewers said kind of old. Boy from different background/location, comes to new and different place. Boy meets girl, falls in love. Fights the good fight against the bad guys (his own people). they live happily ever after yada, yada. I had no idea that I had been in the theater for almost three hours. I was sucked into the movie, I was moved emotoinaly, the actors made me feel what they felt, which is the mark of great story telling. this was my first IMAX movie. The sound was awesome. My only negative comment is the 3-D glasses were uncomfortable and the left side just seemed alittle off/hard to focus. I heard this comment from a number of others upon leaving the theater.

I was harassed by the theater manager and had security guards called on me by the manager of the AMC Quail Springs Mall IMax movie theater because I wanted to keep my extra-ordinarily cheap and almost impossible to wear glasses. I asked if he could show me in writing that I had to return something I paid for, he said no and had security guards stand by me until I gave them over. I felt incredibly harassed and threatened and robbed. Avoid this theater at all costs.

Reasonably solid Dances With Wolves story line, but clearly the next generation in visual entertainment. Definitely needed the large screen and 3-D. Can't wait for the next adventure using this technology.

Every actor was a steriotype of what a politically radical left environmentalist would think about our world. It was so blatantly a commentary against the "Bush Doctrine" as it could be without actually using the phrase. It encorporates all the historical rewriting that is currently found in our classrooms today. Totally one dimensional characters and a unimaginative storyline made the Awesome special effects seem unenjoyable. If anyone, with any historical facts in their memories, could accept this story as genuinely creative and imaginative they need to be shipped to James Cameron's Pandora and join him there. Never on this rock we call earth was there ever people who lived as they are depicted in this or any other idyllic storyline.

In one fell swoop, James Cameron has redeemed the sins of fellow filmmaker George Lucas, as Avatar was so utterly amazing, that it makes up for the sheer and utter disappointment of the entire Star Wars prequel trilogy. Avatar in IMAX 3D was absolutely spectacular, awe inspiring, breathtaking, and visually immersive!
Anyone who has not seen it in IMAX 3D... hasn't seen it!

While this movie was beautiful, was it really that original?
We've seen this type of body-swap alternate reality in The Matrix. Was our main character not "the one"?
And what's with all the "just in case you're an idiot" synopses of obvious events?
One would think that in a two and a half hour movie, the director might spend five minutes to give us a little backstory, rather than have the most detestable character just blurt it out in 60 seconds. Does anyone have a clue why that rock ore stuff is so valuable?
If you enjoy big-budget movies that don't deviate much from the corporate film recipe, then this is for you!

I gave this 4 stars based solely on the amazing imagery experienced while watching this movie. I've never seen anything like it. It actually made me dizzy at times!
Why not 5 stars? The story is certainly one we've seen before (See Dances With Wolves, Pocahontas etc). It was also a bit long. 3 hours in a movie theater definitely cramps your legs.
All and all, this is one movie that you really have to see before it leaves the theaters.

This is an excellent movie. Most movies that are this long tend to have moments when they are lagging................this one didn't. The action and story line of this movie would warrant a 5 star rating, however, seeing it in an IMAX 3D theatre is an incredible experience and well worth the extra money.
