This movie was eye catching from the very first scene. This film has to be experienced in IMAX 3D, no other setting will do it justice properly. One of the most visually stunning movies I have ever watched, correction, it is the most visually stunning movie I have ever watched. This is the first time that I truly and seriously wanted to jump into the screen and experience the world which is like some amazing Final Fantasy world that has come to life. But this only leads to disappointment in the end when the last 20 minutes of the movie is quick moving summaries of a huge storyline and climax that never gets played out. So don't keep your expections too high for how the story will play out.

I actually had no desire to see this movie until a friend told me she had felt the same way but went to see it anyway and she loved it. I have to say, after seeing it, especially in Imax 3D, this is the best movie of the year! Awesome special effects, the acting was great, the story line was great, I even cried! I highly would recommend this movie.

Yes, I said genocide, because congress passed laws stating "...genocide of the American Indian..." This is a great retelling of that story, so the story isn't original, but, it's done well. The BEST parts of this were the production value, acting, editing, and effects. All done top notch. As a Cherokee, and film maker very familiar with 3D processes, I was doubtful about this film, but once I saw it, I have to say I was very, very impressed. I gave it 4 starts instead of 5 because it is an old, often told storyline, not original, and thus predicable (and the original real life story didn't end happy), but definitely worth 5 stars production wise.

Incredible use of 3-D technology. The creators draw you into the wonders of a visually stunning world, with amazing depth of vision. It was a world I didn't want to leave when the movie was over. This movie should definitely be seen in its 3-D version. I definitely plan on seeing it again.

We hadn't seen a 3D movie since Jaws III. Really enjoyed it. So glad we went to see it on the IMAX screen. CG was great and so was the story line. Villians were a little over the top and too much boom boom but loved the alien planet and thought Sam Worthington was wonderful. Noticed him the first time in that awful Terminator movie. He was the only thing good in it. AVATAR - great movie. Loved the 3D.

We really enjoyed the movie and the IMAX, but I think the ticket price difference is excessive. I can't see us going to too many movies in the future if the price was $13 per ticket.

I am ruined for life. I will always compare every movie I see to this one. IMAX and 3D is the way to go. Fantastic graphics and special effects. The love story I did not expect, but was touching. I will be seeing this movie many more times to catch all of the things I missed. This is a must see.

I went into this movie somewhat pessimistic of what the plot might be and how the 3D would look. This movie COMPLETELY went beyond my expectations! The scenery, futuristic labs, characters and special effects all intertwined so fluidly, you actually wonder if it was real or imaginary. I find James Cameron to be very egotistical, but in his own words, he really outdid himself this time! The only thing that could top this is a holographic film . . .

the only thing i can complain about is how crowded the theater was! the graphics were awesome, the glasses, different from other 3d movies i've seen in the past, were much more comfortable to wear, and bigger, so seeing the rim didn't interfere with the movie at all. the movie was engaging all the way through and the only way i noticed how long it was, was when i finally got up at the end. we're going to go and see it again after the crowds die down a bit more, the entire theater was packed! not a single seat left in the house! and we had to buy the tickets days in advance. maybe next month... everyone should go see this movie in imax 3d! it had action, comedy, romance, drama, everything! it would not be the same on a small screen...

Although this movie is an awesome display of incredible cinematography, it is by far a new story line nor a new spin on an age-old message of Corporate Greed and the lack of regard for the environment and the negative impact to indigenous people or life, while trying to fill their bank accounts. It reminded me of the Animated film Fern Gully, on Steroids! The acting is superb and the action keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what will happen next. All-in-all, I thoroughly enjoyed this film even with the story line being predictable. It is definitely worth the time if experiencing it in IMAX 3-D, but I feel it would be just another movie if watching it on the regular screen or at home.

There are some very new and interesting aspects of Avatar - the idea of the Avatars themselves - and the obviously the technology of the production itself sets a new standard - especially in 3D (I saw in IMAX 3D) - but I felt the core story line was somewhat weak for all the hype. A big bad military force pounding a different civilization with bombs and bullets in order to recover a valuable mineral. Was this Cameron’s statement on our war in Iraq to recover oil? With such a huge investment of dollars and technology, I feel there could have been much more depth and engagement in the central plot. See Avatar for the movie technology in 3D – not so much for the story.

I've seen many films in IMAX and 3D. However, this film, its story, technology, cinematography... it's virtual world... was an "experiential breakthrough." Color TV happened before my time. HD was a modest leap in its clarity... this film in IMAX 3D is a visual communications and virtual experience breakthrough that I'm glad to be part of.
The story was amazing and powerful... like Celestine Prophecy meets Medicine Man, Star Trek and more. It tackles social problems of today addressing them through experience... not documentary... this blend of sci-fi, fantasy, love story, social messages... is simply brilliant. I found myself not wanting to leave the theater... I didn't want it to end.

You can now see the probable future of movies on the big screen. With so many consumers having high quality large screens at home, the movie theatre industry has to move to a new level. Well, this movie shows where we are headed. In addition, it s a MUCH better movie than this 53 year old expected. Try to arrive early and sit in the middle seating area for best viewing. If you wear glasses, you might want to wear contacts as the large 3D glasses interfered with my glasses during the film. Enjoy. I gave this film a rare (for me) 9 of 10 stars.

We saw Avatar in 3D IMAX and this movie by far is the most visually stunning movie I have ever seen. The emotions it triggered were similar to the first time I saw STAR WARS when I was a young teenager. At times the visuals were so overwhelming, that I felt a rush of emotion that moved me almost to tears. I know what I witnessed was something special and unique.

I thought Jim Cameron's Avatar was fantastic, and I highly recommend that if you're going to see it, that you see it in IMAX 3D if at all possible to heighten the experience.
As people have already stated in various reviews online, the visuals and CGI are exhilerating and fun, and that alone is worth the ticket price. The most notable achievement in this film is that the alien Na'vi characters, rendered completely inside a computer, looked believable and real. In the past, all CGI-generated people looked like beautiful but emotionless puppets, whose mouths and eyes did not accuately reflect realistically. Avatar finally got that down pat, and down right.

Though the plot was predictable, the visual effects, beauty everywhere, and the sheer simplicity of this new world made the movie quite engrossing--made you forget the overgrown world we live in for a bit. One of the first movies in a LONG time where I didn't have a bathroom break!!! And it was a LONG movie!
Seeing in IMAX 3D was likely not necessary to enjoy it, as the glasses were pretty huge and sat on the tip of your nose.
