Very entertaining; visually stunning, but that's about it. Plot was very transparent, although, if there were a movie to see on the IMAX in 3D, this is it.

This was a great movie. I had heard alot great reviews but was a little skeptical. We live in a small town where the movie was not available and had to drive an hour and fifteen minutes to see it, but it was worth every bit of our drive. The special effects in 3D are great and that is what really made the movie it was as if you were right there in the middle of it all. I would recommend this movie to anyone.

I like the movie but was not happy that we could not see on the Imax we bought the tickets on line for the Imax and when we got there they said it was Broke down? so we had to stayed in a long line to get a refund and a tickets for the just the 3-D showing and then another long line. so if I was you I would not go to this theater to see it on the Imax, well go and see it on the Imax at the Henry ford Imax when it comes there..and when we ordered the tickets on line it should of said that the Imax was not working we found out when we got there it was broke down for 2 days?

I have to say my wife and I don't go to the movies much since we started to get Netflix Blu-ray discs, We mainly stay at home and watch Blu-rays, but this movie in IMAX 3D was something that I was so impressed with, the sound effects, the detail, and the special effects of explosions made it a must see again for me. I would recommend this to anyone that likes to see advances in technology and also likes movies with a lot of thought and detail put into them.

Wow, I have only went to one IMAX show before and really looked forward to seeing AVATAR. I wasn't disappointed and thought the scenery and graphics were outstanding. The plot was imaginable in lieu of the state of our changing world today. Thumbs up and did I say "WOW"!

This was the most visually stunning thing I have ever seen. I almost don't want to watch a movie any other way now. Gripping story, amazing surrounding, believeable CGI, great casting, and the 3d bit? Most amazing thing I have ever witnessed. This movie has changed how people must now do similar things to be recognized. Upped the bar.

Fun movie, great special effects. Seeing it on IMAX 3Dwas a special treat. The storyline was good but predictable. Some of the acting (the army honcho for instance) seemed a bit over the top. However, everyone in my group of six people really enjoyed the experience. I especially liked the flying scenes. Sort of felt I was on one of those beasties myself.

This is by far the most immersive 3D movie i have ever seen. The level of detail is beyond compare, Never once did I feel like i wasn't in the scene with the characters. One of the most nuanced and perhaps unrecognized effects was the use of small ambient 3D items, like ashes or seeds, which really gave a depth of field to the rest of the scenes. A few times I reached up to brush away a stray bit of flower, only to realize it wasnt there. A must see in IMAX for its stunning visuals and non-stop story.

What a great story and concept to only be dragged down by these directors who think they must discomfort us for three hours when only two was necessary. The IMAX Real 3-D was amazing and should not be missed. We get the story and the plot, but it seems directors think we are to slow to catch one, thus the yawning commences. Same as with Twilight New Moon and Transformers (Revenge), we are a lot quicker than given credit, so get on with the movie. If this was two hours long I would give it 4 stars, but the extra hour of fill material sets it back another star. 3 and thats being nice.

I believe that the only way to fully experience this movie is to see it on the BIG IMAX screen in 3-D. You become totally immersed in the movie. While others feel that the script and story are lacking, I thought that the movie was thoroughly entertaining. The special effects and the cinematography in the CGI world are unparalleled! Nothing even comes close. Should walk away with just about every major technical award in the upcoming awards ceremonies. This movie is a true adventure story with some romance mixed in. Very strong recommendation!

Fabulous movie experience in IMAX 3D. I would recommend seeing it in no other format. While the acting is not Oscar-nominating stuff, overall it is an incredible experience that flies by. At my showing (01/02/10), the audience was so into it, they cheered in one part and clapped at the end...and it was a full theatre. Regarding complaints I read about the glasses...grab a napkin or two before going in and use it to wipe off smudges (or dry them if still wet). Don't miss this experience.

Our family of 5 (all 15+ yrs of age) went to see this in the 3D Imax version. We loved it. Short synopsis...it's a combo of Pocahontas, Dances With Wolves and Fern Gully. Sam Worthington was GREAT. I'm a morning person who saw this at 10pm and did not even come close to falling asleep. It was worth the extra money to see it on the big screen. The dvd version will be too small to get all of the excitement in. Go see it!

Avatar in 3D is a fabulously shot, rich, beautiful movie that casts a predictable, pedestrian, smarmy, cloying, story line with not one, but 2 deus ex machina moments to resolve contradictions. Like a high school english literature class gone bad (sorry for the obvious CrossFit reference). Word to the world here--our planet is NOT wired like an organic world wide web internet connection. Hated the bad guys, but only because they clearly devalued human life and culture in the pursuit of monetary reward. The honest pursuit of profit is different.

I had been waiting for Avatar for a long time. When I finally had the chance to watch the movie, I was shaking prior to the start, probably because I was worried it wouldn't live up to my expectations. But boy was I happy to find out it was everything I had expected and more. The plot line was attention grabbing and involved and the characters were so very well developed. Maybe other people didn't enjoy the movie as much because they weren't sci-fi fans, but I've been one since birth so I was in euphoria while watching this movie. There is no doubt about it, I will see it many more times in theater and then buy it on DVD. Now I just need to find more Avatar posters to hang up in my room; I only have one and it's a tad bit lonely.

I am not sure why people are saying that this movie lacked a plot. Even though the movie was almost three hours long, by the time the credits were scrolling, I couldn't believe it was over. As far as the plot, did any one notice what year this movie takes place? 2154! We are the aliens (love that Weaver was in the movie BTW) and the bad guys. Avatar is a perfect representation of the "I want it, so I am going to take it" mentality that is the world we live in today, not caring about who or what stands in our path even if we don't understand the consequences.
Seeing this movie in IMAX 3D is the way to go, the effects and visual presentation was outstanding. I am not sure if I would have enjoyed it as much in a regular theater.

Overall the movie was excellent. The characters and animal life are outstanding and the scenery beautiful. I went to the IMAX version and was a bit put-off that I had to wear glasses. I went to IMAX rather than 3D because I thought I was avoiding the glasses that way. The glasses were wet so I assume they had been washed between shows ... still ... not my idea of healthy after all the other poeple handling them before me. I'll likely see the movie again in its normal movie format.

The planet that James Cameron creates is amazing. The plants, the language, the way of communicating with each other, are all exceptionally impressive. Also, it brings some political messages that's worth thinking about.

Certainly a whole different kind of movie. Excellent story (don't listen to the nay-sayers),unbelievable visuals, good acting, great music. The 3D experience was very good but almost wonder if the movie would have been better not in 3D because you want to see the whole screen. The world James Cameron created was so real and yet so surreal...I'm definitely going at least once more.

This is the first IMAX 3D experience I have attended and I saw Avatar only one week ago in the movies (regular) and thought it was amazing then.
James Cameron made the best choice leaving this movie alone for 14 years before attempting to make it. A MASTER OF THE MOVIE SCREEN! This movie deserves to top all movies ever done throughout history!
THIS IS A MUST SEE IN IMAX 3D! Go see it in regular movie format first, then go back and see it in IMAX 3D. There is no comparison!

This is the best visual and special effects movie I have ever seen. The two hour and forty minutes time seems remarkably shorter than that. This movie keeps your eyes fixed on the screen with the colors and sceneary. By the way, you should definately see this movie in Imax 3-D. Spectacular! James Cameron out did himself with this movie. Yes, the special effects were out of this world but it really fell flat on storyline. Take away the effects and you're left with a weak story. It has the feel of a watching a video game come to life. It's way too long: James Cameron could have easily taken at least an hour off and still told the same story. Then again if you're into a sci fi remake of Dances with Wolves staring big blue indians this is the film for you!
*Be weary of the 3D: many people are suffering nausea and headaches. It's unnecessary and better NOT watching in 3D.

Was nervous initially about taking my 8 year old son to this movie. He loved it. Yes there was some violence and a little swearing, but I felt the directors tried to keep it minimal.
