Not trying to be a hater but this is overrated. It's a solidly made movie but besides the 3D (which can give you a headache if you're not careful), it's not a lot we haven't seen before. It's good enough but why everyone made such a big deal about it, besides that it was King Jim Cameron's newest thing, is beyond me. But hey, that's just me. Everyone else liked it, that's great. Just not my thing. Looking forward to where he takes the world he created after this, though.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I never see movies more than once in the theater BUT I've seen Avator in 3D, at home and finally, in IMAX. I never get tired of it. IMAX added a depth and reality that I can't put into words. The 8 extra minutes were AWESOME. I'd see if everyday day if I could afford it- it makes me want to buy a 3D TV. I LOVED EVERY SINGLE MINIUTE OF IT!!!

even though i understand it was only approx 8 mins of new footage, i loved seeing avatar again and seeing it in 3D-IMAX is the best.. i can't imagine watching this movie any other way.

The most impressive aspect of the movie was the detailed CGI of the female protagonist. Otherwise, the plot was predictable and the underlying themes were jejune, at best. (And in IMAX 3D, the flight scenes were nauseating for anyone with a propensity to motion sickness.) All in all, there are certainly better ways to spend three hours of one's life.

A redundant yet important storyline. Corporate industrialists impose upon the locals, who eventually rise up and overthrow the oppressors. That's a bit simplistic, because this movie does explore the interelationship of a peoples and their environment and the acting is all very beleivable. The connection of the Navii with their world is an interesting interpretation, but the real deal with this is the imaginative flora and fauna and the CGI used to show it. The effects and cinematography are excellent. Some people hate that computers are used these days to create scenes and actors. I say use whatever is necessary to realize the story . Definitely a must see in 3D and IMAX.
My only downturn on this is I'd like to see such effects used with an original storyline.

I have to chalk this movie up as a Visual Experience. The narrative hasn't really been improved upon since the days of Dancing with Wolves, but the graphics and action are in tune with today's expectations.
The movie is very preachy with regards to its environmental statements and humanitarian themes (substitute carefully crafted kitty aliens which tug at our heart-strings), and the evils of corporate greed vs. the universe.
In regards to the additional footage added for this re-release, I was glad they added about half of it, ambivalent to one added scene, and felt they could have left one scene on the editing room floor.
All in all, this movie begs to be seen in IMAX 3D.
