I came to the show wanting something funny. This American Life the radio show had been a downer recently. Each story had its humor, but the poignant parts really hit me.
Mike B. with his change of heart. Starlee with her realizations about her parents. Most of all Dan Savage choking up while telling us about his mother's death.
To quote Follies, "I'm so glad I came."

This was a fun experience and the crowd at the theater where I watched it was definitely into the experience.
The stories were top-notch and many of those present were celebrities, at least on This American Life. The opening puzzles were playful and easily wiled away the time.
Ira Glass, however, stole the show. He was witty, endearing, and wonderful as ever.
The downside, in my estimation, was that it was hard for me to feel the "live" aspect of it. I mean, we watched it on a big screen, things weren't perfect, but it seemed like it could have easily been recorded and have the same effect. It was hard - at least for me - to FEEL the live aspect.

What a great idea... A live video broadcast of a radio show into movie theaters... so many media colliding at once was kind fun. The show was very well put together and just a joy to see. I truly did laugh and cry. At the end I left my squishy, stadium-style, movie theater seat smiling. Thank you to everyone at TAL. My wife and I had a great time.

This was a lot of fun! I laughed, I cried. It was nearly as good as seeing a live show, as if they were right in front of you. The stories were above average American Life fare. And seeing the faces behind the names, the facial expressions in the pauses, really made it a lot more enjoyable and entertaining than listening on the radio. I highly recommend seeing this show.
