I was very excited about seeing this movie. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer. I wanted more stories, more guests, more Ira! But otherwise, it was fantastic. The highlight was Dan Savage's tribute to his mother and the Catholic religion.

It was great to see the live perforemance. I have gone to Prarie Home companion as well and this was just as good, and I wasn't even at the actual performance. I think that they really ought to do this show live more often. The stories were great and diverse. The radio listeners of this performance will really miss out on the visuals that came with the performance.

For anyone who occasions This American Life on their podcasts, on the Radio, or has seen the Showtime seasons, seeing the show done live is a treat beyond all treats. Seeing Ira Glass mix the show live, your favorite contributors, and a mix of new, smart and poignant media that you come to expect from TAL, was all completely worth every penny. This was such a wonderful show!! I attended last year as well, and completley enjoyed the experience. I didn't think it was possible, but this show totally topped last year!! I'm a big fan of TAL since 2000. I've really enjoyed the more recent out of the shadows success, i.e. the Showtime show, and the live theatre broadcasts. This was defeintely a more polished, more matured version of the two live broadcasts. This time there was a bit more acclimation to the specifics of the medium, understandably abandoning some facets that work better in individualized radio, and bringing forward others that play better to a live amassed visual audience.

I've been a fan of TAL for a long time - both the NPR and the Showtime programs. I loved watching it happen - Ira Glass at the controls. Chris Ware's animations were priceless, and each of the other performers brought the usual enchanting mix of humor and pathos that is the hallmark of TAL.
I hope this will become a regular venue for the program - I'd go again in a heartbeat!

Really liked it. It was like your typical This American Life episode on the radio (which is always excellent), except we got to see Ira and the rest of the speakers. Came off like being in a live audience for the radio show, much like Garrison Keillor. Worth the time, always informative, always touching.

What a great way to spend a Thursday night! The broadcast was wonderful, the storytelling was, as always with This American Life, fantastic. My husband & I took our 2 teenagers (17 & 14) and they enjoyed it just as much as we did. Great job, Ira & gang - we're looking forward to the next one!

At times funny, other times touching, but always engaging. Even the opening credits drew the audience in. Ira's ability to find guests with distinctive and interesting viewpoints and weave them together to create a new perspective on his subjects is the genius of his radio show. I was afraid the visuals would detract from the stories I see when I listen, but they didn't.

This is the second TAL theater broadcast I have attended. They have improved the entire experience. From the entertaining puzzles preceding the show to the material presented it was worth every penny. My wife, who is not a big fan of the radio show, enjoyed herself! If you are a fan of TAL take someone who has never heard of it to the May 7th rebroadcast.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but being a HUGE fan I had to go ...and I am so very glad I did. It was wonderful! Quirky as usual:) The music, on the radio show, is as much a character as the subjects but I didn't miss it. Actually seeing the people along with the various animation and art was great.

I am a dedicated listener to This American Life; I get the podcast every week and listen to it on my way to class/work etc... What I realized yesterday is that if there's anything that's lacking from the podcast, it's being able to see the expressions on the storyteller's faces. The visual aspect of the show brought even more life to already very animated stories. But the best part about the show was that it was live. This made it feel like I was really there in Brooklyn with Ira and everybody, and people in the audience actually clapped in between acts. The acts themselves ranged from hilarious to tearjerking, and always had my full attention. 2 thumbs up for This American Life Live!

What a moving experience, to be sitting in a theater filled with other NPR nerds have a full emotional response to the writer and performers whose work we usually enjoy in solitude. Dan Savage was marvelous, Joss Whedon was charmingly nervous and Ira Glass was in his element. I found the show entertaining, the company top notch!

This American Life Live was such an entertaining show. I haven't enjoyed going to the movie theatre that much ever before. People were laughing out loud throughout the entire show. It was very well produced, from the animated trivia which passed the time before the show, to the closing credits.

Last night, we saw This American Life live and it was fantastic! It was hilarious, heart-warming, sad, and entertaining in every possible way. Dan Savage's essay on the death of his mother had everyone laughing through their tears, and Chris Ware created a depressingly cute cartoon for an Andrew Bird song I've never heard. The best part was seeing these people you hear on the radio in action. Ira Glass was funny and charming as ever. I loved it, and highly recommend that you see the rebroadcast in theaters in May!

This event was so good. The HD broadcast was fantastic, the sound, the image, so clear. When it came to the end I didn't want to leave. Thought provoking, funny and engaging content, just like the radio show but cooler! The only thing is that I was so bummed I didn't win the poster..I had my heart set on that :(

I watched the TAL live via satellite in Plymouth Meeting, PA. It was amazing and I too felt like we were right there with Ira in Brooklyn listening and enjoying the show. My favorite was Dan Savage's touching peice, but the entire show was amazing. I hope to enjoy more of these types of shows in the future. If you did not get a chance to see it, do so on May 7th!

I was so impressed with this show. I listen to TAL every week and listen to archived podcasts throughout the week. The guests were funny and thoughtful and smart, as always. I was really charmed with the intro word games and 'ransom note' name switcheroo. Dan Savage's reading was funny and heart-breaking at the same time. I would recommend anyone to give this show a try, even if you are not familiar with the radio show. I'm already looking foward to the next one!

I once pulled a sleeping bag into my home office so I could keep listening to archived eppisodes of This American Life on my PC until I fell asleep. The stories evoke a wide range of emotions and always take me to unexpected places. They are delivered from such a sensitive point of view, that aims to unfold the story rather than weigh in on its content. If I could, I would deduct one point of one star - for a score of 4.8 - for that Mouse cartoon. It seemed out of place and was disturbing; the rest of the audience seemed to concur. You will laugh and cry and be really glad you went. Take a friend, this is to be shared and to be revisited in later conversations.

Just went to see "This American Life - Live" last night. I saw it at one of the satellite theaters (Warwick, RI), but it honestly felt as if we were all right there at the theater in Brooklyn and Ira Glass could hear us clap. All the stories told and video clips shown were excellent, thought provoking, and oftentimes very funny. I left feeling like I needed to go home and write to try to become a member of the TAL staff, because they must have the best job in the whole world! I highly recommend you go out and see the second showing of this show. It will be re-broadcast on 7 May 2009. Get tickets now and go see it!

At times hysterical, heart-wrenching and thought-provoking, "This American Life" is not only entertainment but some of the best journalism out there. It reports on culture and taps into the American psyche like no other program. Its live broadcast on the big screen retained all the quirks that have made it a cult classic but added layers of visuals unavailable on the radio. Ira Glass leads his troupe of correspondents as they confess, commiserate and crack up -- all around the theme of "returning to the scene of the crime." 90 minutes wasn't enough.

This American Life is a wildly successful broadcast on NPR stations, and generally include several different acts all around a single theme. The live broadcast beamed last night into hundreds of movie theaters around the country (originating from a theater in NYC) took the theme "Returning to the Scene of the Crime." Ira Glass was spot-on, witty, funny as heck, and was as subtly forceful a presence as ever. Contributors included Mike Birbiglia, Starlee Kine, and Dan Savage, who basically brought the house down both with laughter and tears (not to mention flinty-edged poignancy.) I highly recommend this to anyone who wishes to see how live radio with heart is created.
