I have been a long-time fan of TAL on the radio. I do not have cable so I do not see the TAL TV show. What a joy it was to see and listen to Ira do his thing live! The live TAL broadcast was so great. I loved all the stories. It was so fun to see people whose voices I have only heard. The only downside was the animated short about the mouse - I really didn't like that. I definitely recommend you see this if you are a fan of TAL.

Maybe it is because I am such a huge fan of the radio show and the ShowTime show that my expectations were too high. The performances were wonderful, but it wasn't anywhere near as entertaining as most of the radio broadcasts and not even close to any of the ShowTime shows. I would not recommend this to a friend; however I would recommend that they use the money to purchase the ShowTime series. All that being said, I will definitely attend the next live show in theaters. I know you can do better.

I've been a radio fan of TAL for years (never saw the TV show) and wasn't sure how it'd translate to the big screen/simulcast format. It was fantastic! The combination of live audience, crisp, high-def (?) video, and incredible TAL cast and crew made for something entirely new. I hope AMC offers this on a regular basis, I'll definitely come back for more!

Watching the radio experience was entertaining on several levels. Ira is a sincere, honest host and engages the audience whether he can see them or not. The stories shared by the 3 guests were perfect with or without the added dimension of seeing their lips move. :-) A more than pleasant 90 minutes without losing at least a smile once.

I adore TAM, Ira, Dan and many of the other guests. Have been fans for years. But while all of the segments were well-written, I was mystified by the tone and pace of the show. I thought overall it was such a DOWNER! Even Mike Berbiglia's (sp???) piece was so dark. I'm a singer-songwriter, and I like melancholic tones, but this show felt too heavy and plodding after the opening games and 1st segment on shoplifting had passed. Dan Savage's piece was beautiful of course--but man, it was a bit much! My fiancee was with me and his mom died almost 3 years ago. We wanted to have a little fun (he loves Savage Love) not become completely depressed...sound quality was also poor--the main feed was too soft.

i have been listening to TAL for years, and while I wasn't able to make the last live broadcast, I really enjoyed this one. The puzzles at the beginning were awesome, and it's a treat to see all of these presenters' faces. Ira was great, and Dan Savage (whom I also love) stole the show- which was hard to do since Starlee and Mike were so awesome as well. Even Joss Whedon, who I know almost nothing about, was very charming. It was a little bit distracting at first to have visuals after listening for so many years, but after a few minutes I got into it. Definitely great for TAL fans!

Just as every radio broadcast of This American Life is thought provoking, witty and very well done, the live performance was no exception. Ira Glass you rock my world and I couldn't imagine a weekend without listening to your show. And Dan Savage's monologue was beautiful and moving. I think his mom would be proud of how he keeps her in his thoughts. I really enjoyed the show. I would definately do this again.

I did not get the cat and mouse cartoon, but loved everything else. I liked seeing Ira's expressions, he's really funny! I liked all the guests, too. I would have liked to see the other main players such as Alex, just to see what they look like. I would go again!

Ira did a fantastic job as always. He makes something like the live audience still seem intimate.. Dan savage easily was the highpoint for me.. though not religious.. it was heart wrenching. Mike Birbiglia was amazing.. looking forward to seeing him on tour.
I either am not deep enough or too deep because the mouse and the cat head just didnt do it for me. The only thing I missed was the Q and A from the last live event.. kinda enjoyed hearing Ira "off the cuff" And I also liked this event more since it didn't seem as if we were paying to watch a commercial for the showtime series this time around.

I REALLY enjoyed this. A chance to see everyone up close when you can't always be... UP CLOSE! And JOSS WHEDON ROCKED. I could watch that all day. Thought provoking and fun. THANK YOU!

I'm a huge fan of This American Life radio broadcast. But this event was a big disappointment to me. Visually most everything was a letdown. I felt like I was watching high school students read reports. Just a headon shot of each person left me examining hairlines, nose shapes, and eyebrows. The mystery was gone and I felt the price of the ticket was very high - I left feeling swindled. Ira has provided so much over the years but this was a bomb. And Ira - don't drop your voice at the end of sentences quite so much - you're becoming a little hard to understand (and NO, it's not my hearing) Rick

I could watch or listen to this show non-stop. Its got a beautiful balance of drama, comedy, wit, depth, thrill, and character. The segment about John Smith(s), is a nice way of thinking about the show and about ourselves. We are all separate, but share the same life. This American Life has a way of telling us our own stories and teaching us how we are.

This American Life was awesome as usual, but technical snafus made the movie-going experience problematic. Our theater missed the first 10 minutes, but since it was "live", (though tape-delayed) there was no way to rewind and show us the beginning. This made for a grumpy audience. We got into it after a half-hour, but generally, for twice the cost of a normal ticket, I wouldn't go to one of these again. Hopefully this show and others like it will be available on a more viewer-oriented format like DVD or download via iTunes. The theater made no apologies to the audience for their fumbling and seemed surprised when we mentioned it on our way out. I still wonder what the "Talk to an Iraqi" thing was that we saw a few seconds of with no sound.
