Enjoyed the movie from the get go, I read the book a few years back, it was exciting to see it come to life. Great job.

Probably the most beautiful 3D I've ever seen. But i felt i missed something in its meditation on god/religion...if that was what it was supposed to be about. Hmm.

A mish mash of a storyline, totally unbelievable. I personally found the first hour boring and lacking in storyline, at which point i left the cinema. This film did not live up to it's trailer, this is a shame, but Avatar it is not.

I loved the book and hoped that the movie would do it justice. After seeing the movie I can say with certainty that they did. I cannot think of one thing to make this movie better. It was just wonderful. Moving, visually pleasing, and very thought provoking. I'm still thinking about it.

Very realistic.. frightening for small kids (just a reminder if you are planning to take kids under say 10 years old). Explores spirituality, man's relation with animals, vegetarianism, and of course, survival - in a visually stunning way with very good and believable story. Highly recommended family movie.

Excellent tale that can be compared to the Wizard of Oz or Big Fish, but also could be confused with a true story. The 3D effects and art direction are top notch and the lead actor does an incredible job making you believe. Great movie for couples, families, or just by yourself.

The computer animation for the tiger and all the other animals is simply amazing and gives the story a kind of realism that previously was just not possible. At times you are totally captured by the visual intensity of the strange solitude at the films center as the lifeboat drifts aimlessly in the ocean. Yet, this is purported to be a story that will make you believe in the existence of God. On that level, it never really hits its mark. Regardless of how incredible the story may be, it never rises to something spiritual. And then just when you feel that the story is over, out of nowhere, the rug is pulled out from under you and everything you have accepted is rewritten and redefined in a far more grim allegory told to the Japanese investigators who are trying to understand why the ship sank. They are asked to choose which version they want to believe and they defer to the romantic version we just watched. But clearly this is all just a mental bandaid for Pi who can not accept the reality of the unthinkable horror he witnessed at sea. Its a very powerful realization and a very well made film, but its at time slow and surreal and certainly not for your typical movie goer looking for a simple shoot em up. Ang Lee has never been a traditional Hollywood director, but his sensibility for the unique shines here.

The book was excellent and not many times do you read a book and then think they did a great job on the movie. But this one was different. Ang Lee did a superb job bringing this book to life. A must see!

My friend insisted I see this before I'd really gotten into the book. Having seen the film it brought so much color and detail to the story that I can now appreciate the book even more. My eyes couldn't get enough of the beauty and color particularly Richard Parker. All in all a great film.

Life of Pi was visually stunning and very very good. It had a slow start and seemed as if the film makers were trying to prepare American audiences for the Indian religion and culture of the main character. In the novel by Yann Martel, these aspects were less obvious, but still prevalent to the “seeking God” aspects of the plot.
An interesting note: The novel was rejected by at least five London publishing houses before being accepted by Knopf Canada, which published it in September 2001. This just goes to prove again how literary publishers have no idea what is really great.
I found that after the story really starts, when Pi and Richard Parker are on the boat lost at sea, the fantastic takes over and we are taken into a world of incredible scope, where nothing is impossible.
I give Life of Pi 4 stars and highly recommend it. It is visually stunning and has fantastic imagery. — MR
