It was "guys day out". My, my two sons (ages 4and 6) decided to watch this movie. The build up from the trailers made me think that maybe the best parts of the movie was already shown on the trailers. I was wrong. The movie had a wonderful story line, it was very funny and had mild humor. The CGI is fantastic and the only thing I would have done differently was watched it in 3D instead of 2D.

After watching it in 2D I feel now I should have watched it in 3D specially for the last minion sequence. Ha..ha..Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable movie. Took my 6 year old along and even though he didn't follow the twists and turns in the plot, he had a blast. Recommend this movie for an amazing production based out of a concept that on paper may sound silly. Go for it!

My husband and I went to see this movie yesterday and really enjoyed it. It was cute, had a good story, and didn't seem to make a political statement as so many do these days. My kids and I typically skew toward Pixar when we pick a CGI movie (you can't beat their cool appeal to both kids and us 30-somethings). "Despicable Me", however, was a pleasant suprise. The story had some holes and a few *yawn* moments, but these were easily forgiven when the next minute we were laughing out loud. I thought Jason Segel was a great choice for voicing the nerdy, obnoxious Vector, and Steve Carell did a decently believable job for Gru with his heavily-accented English. (And I am a fan of Kristin Wiig, whose voice and demure southern accent I hardly recognized as the girls' home headmaster, Miss Hattie). The minions - against my expectations - were weirdly funny, particularly if you were able to catch some of their reactions away from the action. The animation was good as well - they were really able to capture the subtle facial expressions of the more human-looking characters (again, Miss Hattie comes to mind). And the smoke! The smoke looked incredibly real - good thing, since smoke seems to abound in this story. It's these details that make a CGI movie stand out to me, as this one did. This is one I will buy on DVD, because I suspect there are more hidden comic gems that are easily missed the first time around.
