My 6 year old and 7 year old niece loved this movie, and I did too. The characters were lovable and the bad guys were just bad enough - not overly scary. Good lessons - sharing, dedication, loyalty and love of family as well as consequences of greed and selfishness came through in an entertaining way.

My 3-1/2 yr old loved this ovie. He was entertained the entire time and for him that is something to brag about. Also the story line was great for his age group and I will be telling all the other mothers to the show. I will also be buying it when it comes out on Blu-ray.

This movie was awesome. It was funny and understandable for all ages. There are some cute parent moments that make you tear up but all in all, it was funny, sweet, fun to watch and very good! My kids and I laughed all through it and I almost cried at the end. Very worth the money spent for the great day we had!

This was a fun movie for all ages. As a grandparent, I enjoyed it for the humor I could relate to. The children with us were from age 3 to 12 with a 30 year old also included. Looking at their faces as they watched I saw that each laughed from their own perspectives. There was something that kept each involved.

I loved the character development - so well defined, and the plot was fun if expected. Even the little yellow guys had their own unique little characters. I went with my wife and niece on a tuesday night since my niece wants to see the movie... This could have made an amazing ten minute short: a mad scientist pestered by adorable kids has his heart melted and becomes their father figure while fighting to stay true to his darker, more entertaining side.
Unfortunately in true American style, the main character is repeatedly defanged to make him likable -- we went to a movie about an evil scientist, expecting him to do, well, evil stuff. By the end of the film the most nefarious thing Gru's done to the innocent is cut in line at Starbucks -- and that was in his first scene. The woman running the orphanage is arguably more evil than any of the supervillains in the movie.
Subplots are complicated and/or resolved through coincidence, Gru is inexplicably ordered around by his underling because it moves the plot along, the antagonists are wholly unpunished and even the credits sequence passes on the chance to epilogue the story, instead showing off side characters doing things which would look fabulous if you had maybe paid extra to watch it in 3D -- and most of this film does not merit paying extra to see it in 3D.
Considering the screenwriters have been partners for nine years, you'd think it would have felt a little more polished and less like a student film funded by foreign film tax credits.
As a sequel is apparently already greenlighted, it will be interesting to see whether they put any more care into making it.

My family and I watched this movie while visiting relatives out of town. It was an excellent film, we saw the 2D version and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very funny, good family plot. We don't buy many DVDs but we will buy this one when it comes out or when its price drops to $10 - $15 bucks.

Saw this movie with my 6 and 3 1/2 year old sons and we all had a great time. Some potty humor, but nothing too bad. Plenty for the grownups and a cute message. Orphan stuff is a little sad, but didn't seem to bother my kids.

The movie was great for my 3 yr old. He sat through it and enjoyed it. However, i still think Pixar makes the better movie for both the kids and the parents.

I took my 7 year old and 4 year old grandchildren to this movie. They really liked it. There was some humor that was a little over their heads which made it entertaining for adults as well.
