I have to agree with the last reviewer - the movie did not live up to the hype. I guess I expected much more. The movie did have a few very funny moments, but overall I have to say that I was a little bored. My 10 year old daughter loved it, though. I also enjoyed the minions and the main characters, but I think the storyline just tried to be a little too cutsy as well as clever.

But it didn't really live up to the hype. Steve Carrell was mediocre, really, and a lot of the jokes fell flat. It was a cute movie in that the whole villian to family man thing generated some "awww" factor, but it also feels like one of those animated movies that is being cranked out by the dozen, with nothing special to really put it over the top. I did enjoy the minions very much, but other than that - blah. Daughter enjoyed it very much, but I will not be buying this one when it's released on DVD.

I take my son and am thinking, "Here we go, another kid movie". Sorry just being honest... BUT as Gru walks into the movie, the music is actually good and the animation was impressive! I was like, ok wow, this isn't bad at all. The script was definitely top-notch. Another reviewer said it was touching and it was. It had me and my boy laughing too so yeah we really had a good night. I can't help thinking that the next kid flick won't be as good, this one was just that much better. Take your kids. If you're lucky enough to know another adult who "endures" kid movies, take them, you won't regret it! I'll buy this when it comes out on Blu-Ray....for my son, of course. :)

This is a terrific "check your brain at the door" summer movie. The 3D effects are gratuitous and cliche, which is exactly what you'd expect. The writing is surprisingly tight. Pay attention for all the clever and timely visual jokes. I connected with the characters and loved the story. I appreciated that it was very funny without resorting to a lot of stupid or gross humor. This movie was a lot better than I was expecting.

Like everyone else, I loved this movie...interestingly, my husband & I brought our 14 year old and 16 (nearly 17) year old, BOYS, mind you...and THEY loved it too! We all laughed. Some of the humor might be a little much for some children - but it has a great story line. And I do LOVE a movie that the audience cheers & applauds at the end!!! I went to see this movie with my sixteen year old son. He's not an easy person to please, and of course, would have preferred to see a movie like Predators! We both loved it. We were surprised at how much we laughed out loud through the whole movie. There were some seriously funny parts throughout, and for all levels of audience members. I could hear little kids laughing all over, but just as much, I could hear the dads and moms laughing too. The storyline is great, and they do a great job of letting you connect with all of the characters. The animation is terrific - I honestly felt like I was watching a Pixar. Those little minions were awesome, and I predict that every kid will have one or two stuffed ones by the end of the summer (if they make such a thing). It was a terrific movie, and it was able to entertain all age levels.

Excellent movie for all ages. Our group ranged from 20 to 35 years, and we all enjoyed it. There were kids, teenagers, and parents in the audience. We all had a great time; the movie has plenty of laughter and "cuteness". Fantastic movie. The humor was aimed at all age levels, even down to the toddler level. I loved it, my 5-year-old twins loved it, and the adults in the audience laughed and applauded at the end.

This movie is fantastic and I loved it as much as the kids (5 1/2 and 12). All of the characters were great and the minions are priceless. The bathroom humor was kept at a minimum and the language was appropriate. I will definitely be buying his DVD the day it comes out. Don't miss it!!

I love Steve Carrell and clever animated movies so I had really high hopes for this. I brought my 10 and 8 year old kids along with two of their friends. Because my daughter gets freaked out from 3D movies we saw the non-3D version. I immediately felt that the movie was made to be 3D. Although the animation was impressive in the regular theater there were many scenes that seemed to be created simply for the impact that the 3D effects would have on the audience. The potential for greatness, I think was the story. I felt it was sort of rushed - Gru went from wanting to get rid of the girls to wanting them around a little too quickly. It could have been developed a bit more. I giggled a few times but that was it. The minions were cute but not hilarious like I was lead to believe. All in all I'm glad we went but I won't feel the need to see it again.
