Much about this film feels familiar, as it draws on scifi classics we all know. But this doesn't mean this film feels like a retread. To the contrary, this snapshot of life on a moon-based helium harvesting facility takes us places that are at once surprising and familiar.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

An excellent sci-fi psychodrama in the tradition of "2001: A Space Odyssey". A couple of things about this movie bring to mind "2001": isolation in space and GERTY the robot. However, GERTY's role is the inverse of HAL’s. If "2001" was about the next step in human evolution, Moon is about human social regression. It could stand as a metaphor for consumerist complacency (particularly with regard to energy sources) in the U.S., fomented by corporations at the expense of disposable workers, here and abroad. In fact, the closing line of the movie indicates that this is exactly what Duncan Jones and Nathan Parker had in mind.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Rockwell's performance successfully carries the story from beginning to end. Go see it!

Great movie. The beginning of the movie may seem a little slow but it definitely picks up as the story develops. Great actor and the robot is hilarious.

There was much I liked in "Moon". Sam Rockwell for one. And Sam Rockwell for another. His performance(s) are the center of the film that held my interest through a sometimes annoyingly obfuscated narrative. Ultimately, the story isn't wholly rewarding. The ride along the way however, is worth taking for the mystery that slowly unravels.
The reason Douglas Rain's voice of HAL in "2001: A Space Odyssey" was so chilling and believable was it's lack of familiarity. From the first time Kevin Spacey speaks as Gerty, the computer, I couldn't help picturing the actor, which was very disruptive.
Overall, "Moon" is a decent debut feature made by the child of Ziggy Stardust himself, Duncan Jones.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Moon is a solidly good movie. Sam Rockwell gave a great performance (or performances). But I thought it ended far too abruptly. I would not have minded another 10-15 minutes for the rest of the story.

Moon has the traits that originally drew me to sci-fi--imagination & psychological complexity. Much of what passes for science fiction in film is the equivalent of a futuristic western. Sam Rockwell is excellent as a lone human on the moon who meets a version of himself. Both must decide how they came to be where they are & what they are going to do next. This is not a movie with a long, nail-biting build-up to a huge confrontation. Instead, the story unfolds subtly with information gradually exposed , not told as background by characters striding through long hallways or overlooking cityscapes. I was pleased to see that Director Duncan Jones apparently inherited some of his father, David Bowie's, ability to tell a compelling story.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Mercifully, there is not a single explosion in this sci-fi movie. This is quiet, intriguing, psychological sci-fi. The back side of the moon is being mined for energy. One man is on site to monitor the operation, and he looks forward to the end of his 3-year contract and to returning home to his family. Then an accident and a concussion cause his mind to seem to play tricks on him. Now he must wrestle with his selves, to understand his fate.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
