Other than the fact that I truly love Benjamin Bratt's work altogether, this movie made me want to join an Aztec dance group and get back in touch with my Mexican roots! There were several different issues touched in this movie...the discovery of a gay Latino son, an interracial relationship, etc...It was a beautiful film and the story very well told. I loved it!!!

Greatly written, produced and executed film. Benjamin Bratt's performance is the best I've seen him in. There are multiple issues addressed that cross all cultures. It was done with great detail and sensitivity, and with characters that challenge themselves and each other.
I went with 4 friends the first time, and 8 other friends the second time. It is unfortunate that it is not getting picked up by all theaters like mainstream movies do. Hollywood seems to think that if Latinos play leading roles and/or roles of substance, somehow non-Latinos will not see these movies. When in reality, the reason many more people haven't seen this movie is because it lacks the financial backing to market the film, so many people do not know about it. It's picking up audience from word of mouth. So, until Hollywood gets its act together we'll need to continue to spread the word out on great films like this one.

What else can I add that hasn't already been said. I agree with almost everybody. It is compelling movie that transceds all negative stereotypes. Thank you Peter, Benjamin, Jesse, and Jeremy for bringing this story to not only our culture but for the world to see. Benjamin Bratt played the role of the father and did an amazing job! The movie was absolutely magnificent...the storyline, the characters, the music, the cars. I heard a lot of buzz about this movie while it was making the festival circuits and saw it twice this past weekend. Even after the second viewing, the film was still able to carry me on the same emotional journey I experienced during the first viewing.
I won't give away too much about it, but the film is essentially about a father and son's relationship as they try to reconcile their differences through their struggles with coming to terms with themselves and their community.
Few films are able to successfully depict communities of color in such an authentic and raw way but La Mission succeeds and does so with flying colors. It's one of the best films that I've seen in a long time with a great story, compelling and memorable characters, and the cinematography is beautiful. The film also displays some of the best acting I've seen and is worthy of a few Academy Award nominations.
A definite must see.
