I really enjoyed 500 Days of Summer. It was funny and very genuine. Joseph Gordon Levitt did a great job as heartbroken Tom and the movie had a very original storytelling method. Great music too! Even my boyfriend liked it and he is a professed hater of romantic comedies.

Interesting, original boy-girl relationship movie that digs deep into the tendons and sinews of romantic relationships, expectations and how our past experiences and unfulfilled expectations shape our emotional bonds. Director Webb takes chances and succeeds as he drives the audience back and forth along the 500 day relationship time line. In the end it is as if he has sewn stitching across a wound as everyone "heals" and moves on to the next romantic "gymnastic workout". 500 days of Autumn anyone? Funny, quirky, original, emotional and satisfying. Well storied and acted. Bravo to the whole team! See it!

Good movie. Well worth going. Narration was intrusive and unnecessary and the ending was a little contrived. On the other hand it was a story well told and, for the most part, dodged the clichés. The dance number was delightful.

Great movie, missed the sweet spot, though. I hadn't really considered the three relationship categories between men and women: friends, lovers and mates. Summer was an incredibly selfish, self-absorbed putz, beautifully portrayed, I might add, by Miss Deschanel. Gordon-Levitt captured the male angst and emotional roller-coaster experienced when you are smitten with someone interested in only having a good time. I've been there and it "hoits". The opening acknowledgment says it all.

I have seen the movie a couple of times and enjoy it as much the second time as I did the first time. I was taken through every emotion as I related to the storyline from both sides of the equation.
I think that every audience member showed enthusiastic pleasure in viewing the film at both showings that I attended.

It's a pretty fresh and honest look at an old story line. Gordon-Levitt had good comedy timing in 'Thrid Rock From the Sun" but he shows he can project a range of emotions and intensity. He manages to come a long way in under two hours - from pretty sophomoric 20 something to, well, a grown up. Deschanel also delivers a fresh and spot on performance, her character knowing exactly what she wants without seeming to be controlling or mean spirited and without being an air head.
The script was snappy and 'true' to my ear - not forced - with a few pretty funny lines, and some poignant ones.

Don't worry about this being a lame chick-flick romantic comedy--it's not. It may not be totally perfect, but it was far funnier and poignant than I had first thought it would be. Deschanel and Gordon-Levitt have a lot of chemistry. I'd see it again in a heartbeat! I have no idea why it isn't in wide-release yet...I think it would be quite successful.

I really loved this movie because it was absolutely adorable, light-hearted and comedic at points, and incredibly realistic. It was a story that is NOT overdone and was really great to see for a change given all the craptastic happy slash predictable endings in Hollywood. I love that from the beginning they warn you that it's not a love story but the audience still somehow hopes it might turn out to be one. It's great!

The end message of the movie makes it worthwhile. But my overall impression was mixed. A nonlinear story works for some movies but not this one. I didn't find that it helped the story---detracted from it actually. Was the hot and cold relationship because of their personalities or because of where we sampled them in the arc of their relationship. Some cute sequences felt borrowed (Amelie). I did like the split screen sequence of Expectation and Reality. It is worth seeing.

I haven't seen a movie that does such a good job at focusing on the dynamics and complexities of dating relationships since Love Jones. Though I believe it could have been a bit shorter in time it's definitely worth seeing!
