Not really a Star Trek fan but wife wanted to go. Went to see it in IMAX (not the really big IMAX) and it was spectacular. Not to mention there was an earthquake in the middle of the battle scene which really gave it a sense of realism! Really enjoyed it, don't have to be a Star Trek fan to enjoy.

If I were not a Trekker, I would be after seeing this film. I grew up with ST:TOS, and love the new characterizations. Close, the essence of the originals without being impersonations. Each actor has put their own spin on their character. The story line is great! Can still reach into ST:TOS for inspiration, but not trapped in the past. With the alternate timeline, so much is possible.
When is the sequel coming? Please tell me there will be more!

If you are a Star Trek fan, this is a must see movie! If you aren't, this is one of the best action adventure movies to come out in a long time. This is the beginning of a whole new series of adventures for the crew of the Enterprise. The characters that we have come to know and love over the years, are played by completely believable "younger" actors--casting was very well done. If you can, this is a good movie to see at an IMAX........I can't wait for the next adventure to begin!

Saw this movie at the AMC in Times Square IMAX, with a group of friends: Frakkintalos, Mrs Frakkintalos, Wavyliem, Badger, LisaMarie514, BSGWidow, ATGreat, and Raemani! IMAX picture quality was awesome. The movie was great, with the new cast really doing justice to their iconic roles. I felt like I was back with my old friends Kirk and Spock. The SFX were impressive as well, but the character driven plotpoints were what sold this long-time Trek fan. I can't wait for the next one!

Without spoiling the movie for people who haven't seen it, let me just say that if you are a Star Trek fan and continuity-freak, you will not be disappointed by this movie. I went in expecting an "alright" movie and came out completely amazed. I took my wife with me who is not a sci-fi freak like me and is very hard to please when it comes to movies, and even she loved it. The audience clapped at the end as well. The acting was over the top, as well as the script. I only wonder how he just happened to run into Spock, but if you look over that, everything else was gold.

They muddied the Star Trek space by creating a new timeline. The story lacked the original message and theme of Star Trek. It was more in line with a wild west movie in space. AKA StarWars.
The visuals, sound and acting were quite good but the storyline was junk and should have been put in a trash can.

Fully prepared to like the movie and I'm a big fan of JJ Abrams (Lost!). It was better than I had expected. Casting was really superb and for an old Trek fan it paid homage to that series, but brought a new spin to it! Last minute decision to see it in Imax, but that was great if a little loud.

I have grown up watching all the Star Trek series and all the movies. This movie was very well done both in content and visual effects. The plot is very refreshing and helps to complete the whole Star Trek world. The digital 3-D was great but the volume of the sound for me was a little bit too loud. A great movie for anyone! As a from-the-beginning fan (9/8/66), this movie forced me to abandon a lot of what I knew and loved about Trek. I could mourn the loss of the 43-year-old canon all day (how stardates have radically changed, how Kirk's service record doesn't make much sense any more, how it is that Pike and Chekov are on the same ship, etc.), but the fact remains that this rebooted Trek is fresh, exciting, and has the potential for just as long a run as the "old" Trek enjoyed. (Can you see Pine & Quinto playing Kirk & Spock 40 years from now? I can!) Best of luck to the new franchise!

I really enjoyed it. The casting was perfect, and the script was great. I really liked the way the filmed it (for the most part. There were a few moments where the camera was a little dizzying, but they weren't that often). Basically, if you filmed Star Trek like it was Star Wars, you'd get this movie. A lot more in-your-face than you're used to Star Trek being. Go see it.

My husband is a fan and I figured I'd go along and catch a two hour nap, but to my surprise this movie was amazing! The IMAX Theater brought this movie to another level that was off the charts. I enjoyed every second of the action, humor, and romance :)

The alternative universe Original Star Trek, all your favorites are here, only the time/space has been altered and thus, everything is slightly altered, and i think it's a good thing. a fresh start to explore, grow, seek out new undiscovered territories where no man has gone before. The film gives you great tid bits of Star Trek past while pushing you forward into star Trek all new. The cast is young and vibrant. the effects are rockin'. This movie is more than worth going to the theater and doing The IMAX experience.

I'm not a Trekkie nor am I even a Sci-fi fan but it is an entertaining film. I'd still take an independent film over Star Trek any day.
