I liked it. I wouldn't consider myself a full on Trek nerd, but I'd have to say that this movie makes me want to research (rent DVDs) the Star Trek series. The Vulcan civilization comes across as helpless which is the only part I didn't like in the movie. Other than that, this movie is great for all to see.

I was annoyed that the theater calls itself IMAX.
The movie was fun and engaging, but I chose and IMAX film to get the IMAX experience. I did not get that. We sat in the top row because that was what there was and we looked down on the screen rather than being in the center of it. I was at first disappointed, but once I thought of the movie as a regular movie and not an IMAX, I enjoyed it. I went to ask the manager after the film was over how an IMAX film is designated, He explained that the theater is a retrofitted IMAX and the screen is 25% larger than their average screens in the theater. If you ask me, that is not good enough. If you want an IMAX experience, don't go to the AMC theater in Southcenter.

Very good, but was over too soon, which is usually a sign of a good movie. Funny how most reviewers skip the delightful Chekhov character. He is a riot. Kirk is still the best and this look at his early years is a rapture that adds to the saga. A couple of downsides, I could do without the over the top "Star Wars" beasts on the ice planet or moon or whatever it was and what is with those whimpy hand held phasers? Give us energy beams like the old days!

I have been a Trek fan since I was a small child and, I have to say, I did have some doubts they could pull this off. They surely did though! It looked fabulous on the IMAX and I was happy to see how they made a whole new crew that played true without being campy and overdone yet was still familiar and comfortable. They also completely nailed the dynamics between the characters that the old Trek fans loved so much. I'm also happy how they addressed the problem of being able to make new movies that would have overlapped the timelines of the old ones. Great job to the cast, writers, and director! I cannot wait for the next installments to come out. They are going to have a hard time equalling this one though.

This movie is a good start to resurrecting the Star Trek series. I look forward to a whole new line of movies and a new generation of Trekkie's. This effects where better than those in Wolverine as were the action and story. I was entertained from the beginning to the end of this electrifying film.

I was pretty unsure about a new version of Star Trek coming out, especially after I heard it was going to have the original series' characters in it. After watching the movie though, all my fears were completely destroyed. The actors were great, the story was a little shaky, but manageable, and the character interactions were spot-on. I can't wait for the inevitable sequel!

Having been a Star Trek fan since the beginning, I was skeptical about new actors and the modernization of characters that I have known and loved for years.
I was pleasantly surprised with the new actors . I think they did a good job of sticking with the spirit of each character. I got over a new Kirk and Spock after just a few minutes. By the time they got to McCoy I was looking forward to meeting each character all over again.
This isn't your parents Star Trek. It is not as pretty and clean as Star Trek in the past. In That's what makes this movie so good. .
Kudos to the cast and crew of this Star Trek. This is the best one yet.

I have been a big fan of Star Trek for years. Overall, the director and cast did a great job. Saw it on a real (large) IMAX. Recommend sitting closer to the rear due to frequent motion. A few gripes: beaming onto a faster-than-light ship, "red matter", the way black holes are used and interacted with. The interiors of the ship seemed much more interesting than previous versions. The engineering room looked more similar to that of a modern ship, with multiple floors of pipes, tanks, and the like (though it felt a bit TOO big).

I thought the movie was great. The plot was a surprise that made it all worth while. I believe all trekkies(new and old) will find this a great addition to the Star Trek universe. My only complaint would be the design of the enterprise engine room. The huge piping made me think i was aboard a cruise ship instead of in deep space on a futuristic vessel. I believe evryone did a great job with there characters. Just need to see more of Uhura next time. Well done guys!!!!

This was tons of fun and visually stunning. A++ on pure entertainment. Plenty of action & comedy and good character development for Spock & Kirk. Considering they had to cram a lot of story into one movie, they did well. I've been a fan of all things Trek since I was a little kid. I've seen all the movies and the spin-off TV shows. But, I'm not a "Trek purist". So, I'm not bothered too much by this update. There's a few things I wish would have stuck a little closer to the old show, but this reboot was needed to keep Trek from withering away. At least they try to explain the differences with it being an alternate timeline. I hope future movies are this exciting and have a compelling plot.

Overall I was not quite expecting to like this movie as much as I did. I was very impressed with the way they took the old, beloved Star Trek and re-invented it for today's audience. Speaking as a Trek admirer since the old days, I thought that the way the storyline was re-told with all of the twists and action that today's moviegoers love was well done.
I was also amazed at how well the actors were able to pull off their characters, you can actually see all of them as younger versions of Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Sulu and Scotty that people like me grew up with.
I am looking forward to see what else they come up with in the movies that are sure to follow this one.

A phenomenonal movie for old and new fans alike. For Star Trek lovers, this movie is the closest in spirit to the original series' vision of the future. The action and humor are well balanced for a fast paced flick. It is simply incredible visually. JJ and crew were also able to avoid using the advanced technology as a crutch to by pass storytelling or plot like most of the StarTrek extended universe has. I've been there since the 'Orig beginning'. JJ & Co. have successfully 'relaunched' the franchise by going to where, logically, it needed to go; the beginning of the 'beginning' (Enterprise series attempted it but got 'off track'). The film has action & humor for the non-fans & touchstones, foreshadowings & continuing motifs for the hardrcore ones. All the 'new' actors effectively capture the 'essence' of the iconic characters of the Enterprise without parodying or imitating them. It's great to see the ship warping away; doing it's 'thing'. This is Definitely the kind of film you want to see in IMAX.

The beginning of the summer blockbusters has officially begun. This movie had everything from romance to comedy to action. Fans of all Star Trek movies will love this one. Even non-trekkies will love it too. The movie takes us back to the beginning when Kirk and the gang are in starfleet and the first U.S.S. Enterprise is built. Without giving away too much of the movie... 2 Spocks are better than 1. "Live Long and Prosper!"

True to his word JJ Abrams created an alternate universe version of Star Trek. Telling a story of how the original crew of the USS Enterprise came together, he does pull a few rabbits out of his hat. But so what, this is one great movie.
