I'm very disappointed. Star Trek used to be about the writing, and I had high hopes for summer movies after Dark Knight. But this script was turned in dripping wet just before the writers' strike, and it shows.
It's a lot of fun, and I generally like the new direction, but the writing is really mediocre.

I was one of the millions disappointed by the original Star Trek: The Motion Picture and elated when they got it right with Star Trek II. The series went through its highs and lows, but finally ... my brethren ... we've come to the holy land of Star Trek lore. Effects are in the realm of what we believe they to be ... not for story enhancements. For instance, the ships engine rooms are real thick pipes, steel and a web of realistic man-made environments; you FEEL like the Enterprise was constructed with a sense of probable reality. And the acting! My children, each and every character seemed like an exact replica of the originals. Urban WAS McCoy ... Quinto WAS Spook ... Even Pine WAS Kirk and it all just made sense. Wonderful film!

I have never really been a huge Star Trek fan. My parents watched it when I was younger, but I found it boring. Watching this movie made me intrigued about the rest of the Star Trek series. Especially the interaction between Kirk and Spock.

Being an AARP-card carrying trekkie, I came prepared to the new STAR TREK movie to be offended by the "new breed". I was so pleasantly surprised....the storyline was valid, the introduction of the main characters was well-spaced and clever. The references to the original series were loved by the audience and, of course, the cutting edge special effects of the day made it all the more "fascinating!" Kudos to the Bad Robot!

They really put alot of work into finding the right people to play younger versions of our old friends. I can see a whole new line of movies with these new young people and I welcome them.They did an outstanding job!! I hope the few older actors were as pleased witht he result as we were. The action and humor, are fantactic. Nice to see how they might have all gotten togeather. I will own this movie as soon as it is out on DVD.

I TOTALLY enjoyed every minute of this movie. There was constantly something going on. One does NOT have to have seen any of the Star Trek movies to enjoy - I certainly have not seen all previous movies. Only a sliver of Star Trek knowledge is helpful. I think anyone, over 13 will enjoy this movie, male AND female. It was not completely serious nor too comedic. And it definitely was NOT over-the-top science-fiction oriented.

I was like 'come on, you can't revive one of the most unique shows ever'. Other star trek's-new generation, etc, just could not live up to the Star Trek theme. Now they want to revive the original characters?!?!? Well, Bravo. JJ Abrams pulled it off. He tapped into the original relatioships, but with a new exciting cast. (Checkov wasn't my favorite, but oh well). All the rest worked! Sweet movie!

I am a long time Star Trek fan and if you are like me you will hate this movie. While the action is great and the FX are stunning, the story line is terrible. I will not spoil by revealing much but I have to comment on two things. One is the love connection involving two characters. They have got to be kidding. The second is major disconnect between things we have seen in the original series and things that happened in the film that would make these things impossible. They did pay decent homage to famous lines by the characters in the series but that does not save this film. I am totally frustrated and you will be, too.

This was one of the best movies I have ever seen! Non-stop action, fantastic visual FX...
Each one of the characters that played one of the original roles; i.e. Spock, Kirk, Sulu, ect. really captured the essence of the character and really NAILED the role.
J.J. did a fantastic job rebooting this franchise by wiping the slate clean without dissrespecting the history of Star Trek that is already there.
I was very happy to see that J.J. did not design the movie as a social commentary. If I wanted to see something on social issues of our times I would watch the news.
They have created a new generation of Trek. A fresh generation. Well done.

That's what the rest of the impending summer blockbusters will have to choose from...STAR TREK was AMAZING in IMAX. I can't believe an IMAX theater opened near me THREE weeks before Star Trek premiered, but I was at the very first showing at 8:00 on Thursday, May 7. The energy, story, humor, and visuals of the film, the picture and sound of IMAX, all of it was the best movie experience I've had in a long while. I don't care who you are, whether you like science fiction or not, go see this movie!

This could have easily been droll and uninteresting when in fact the opposite is true. This is (quite literally) a non-stop thrill ride.
Written, executed and cast PERFECTLY (flawlessly) and kept me on the edge of my seat through much of it. It may well over 2 hours...but I could easily have sat through another 2 hours.
Witness now the REBIRTH of the franchise!
Star Trek is one of the best movies I've seen in a LONG TIME! Go see it, you won't regret it.

Excellent story and characters. McCoy is a Doctor and not a <fill in the blank>. Spock is his eternally conflicted self. Kirk is a smart aleck kid who, most annoyingly, really knows his stuff.

I have been a Trekker since I was 9 years old and was quite worried this movie was going to ruin my dear "Star Trek." Not only is it not ruined, it has created a new generation of Trekkers. (Trekkest?) While part of this movie made me sad (you'll see when it implodes) I also was laughing and in suspense the entire time. While my non-useful Trek knowledge is now even more non-useful, this new AU of Trek is one I look forward to exploring!

Excellent history, keep the essence of the first star trek, a fighter captain that break the rules, a vulcan that have to fight with his emotions, and very cool how Kirk meet everybody and become captain.
Also the effects are super and the movie is a delightful form beginning to end.
I seen all movies of star trek and series and I promise you that if you are a fan, this movie is not going to disappoint you.

A definite reboot of the old series with original parts. Great character-driven story. The space battles and cinematography was outstanding. Many scenes and instances that fans will recognize and admire. Even new fans can get on board. Storyline is out there in science fiction, but that what Star Trek is, was and will always be.
