A long time Trek fan, I was very satisfied with the new movie, especially its many nods to past Trek. I had already reconciled myself to the differences in style and the wholesale replacement of canon, so I was freer to just enjoy the movie. Seeing anything on IMAX is best, and this movie is no exception (a few somewhat blurry close-ups not withstanding). I recommend viewing it close but not to close in order to drink it all in. May Trek live long and prosper!

As a fan of the original series I was interested but concerned that the movie would not do the Star Trek legacy justice. All doubts were put to rest after the opening credits. From beginning to end the story was captivating. The film reacquainted us with old friends and provided 100% entertainment. I will definitely see this film as many times as possible in the theater.

Old Geeks will love the attention to character, script and humor. The uninitiated will see great characters, action, adventure, humor and an easy to follow script. I saw the IMAX version and the colors and action just pop off the screen. The new actors rediscover the iconic roles - except, the new actor does a great impression of DeForest Kelly. The crowd actually applauded about ten times during the film and then for about a minute at the end. The endless potential for sequels ensures that this franchise will live long and prosper.

Star Trek has been with me most of my life and I just got a renewal on that life. I was amazed by how diverse the crowd was in the theater. This will become everyones Star Trek. This movie is so fast that 2 hours went by in 5 minutes nobody wanted to leave after it was over. I say go see it then let's new universe. We are headed to a new frontier.

I also saw this opening night. My family are huge trek fans so we had to see it, sadly the biggest trek fan (my dad) could not come as he was out of town but we loved it so much we are seeing it again in the IMAX on Sunday with him. The cast was a perfect choice and stayed true to the original members. I particularly loved BONES he hit it right on the nail even tho, he had some big shoes to fill. The story linked amazingly to the original with its own new feel. And of course amazing special effects even my mother thought was spectacular. In short one of they best movies of the summer if not "The best".

After 10 Star Trek movies I was skeptical about whether another movie would be any different. I was pleasantly surprised. It was fresh, funny, action oriented, great graphics (that didn't look computer generated), great chemistry, very nostalgic. I really enjoyed the movie and many scenes were memorable to me after I left. It wasn't extra long, just the right amount of time, and I left the theatre wanting to watch the other Star Trek movies. Having never watched an episode of the Star Trek series myself, I wasn't sure as to whether I would enjoy the move or even understand it. But I have to say I am completely glad I watched it. It is a phenomenal movie experience and the characters are beautifully portrayed. Go see it!! Especially for Spock! He is absolutely the best character of the series and furthermore is wonderfully portrayed within this movie.

I was hopeful that this movie would be entertaining. I was not prepared for the non-stop action, humor, and drama of this film. It doesn't matter if you've never seen a Trek film before, love Trek or are somewhere in the middle, you will walk out of this movie saying WoW what a ride.

First i want to say Im not a hardcore trekkie. I've seen all the original cast star trek movies growing up but lost interested afterwards.
This movie is fast, exciting, eye grabbing. It has short instances with insight, touching connections, thoughtful feeling, BUT most of the movie is just visceral and vicarious!
This reboot was just what the doctor ordered, I loved Bones McCoy! will see it again for sure and ofcourse own the bluray dvd :) You dont have to be a fan to enjoy this film, this film WILL make you a fan.

Let me start off by saying: This is a fantastic movie and I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, its not without its faults.
The biggest fault is the villian. It seems that the writers just threw in a cookie-cutter villian from past Trek outtings, slapped on some minimal makeup, added a couple of well placed scowls and angry dialoge and called it a day.
Still, im looking forward to the sequel as this films success will guarantee.

J.J. Abrams has nailed it! He set out to re-invent Star Trek and did just that! A fantastic blend of old and new. A non-stop thrill ride from beginning to end, could be movie of the summer. It is a stroke of writing genius to pave the way for new "old" Star Trek history (read "sequels") by unalterably altering the past. For once a scifi episode/movie breaks a treasured timeline and doesn't automagically put it back together again in the last 5 minutes. I can't wait to see what happens next. I saw this movie opening night on IMAX and all I can say is WOW! Finally a Star Trek that everyone can enjoy. J.J. Abrams has created a masterpiece that accurately captures the beauty and deadliness of space. The casting was dead on though there were a few giggles when Chekov started speaking because the actors impersonation seemed a little over-the-top. Chris Pines makes for a great Capt. Kirk and Quinto is a very believable Spock. Our theatre was packed with a normal crowd. The majority of people who were there were ordinary moviegoers but, from the reactions of the crowd, it is clear this movie has much broader appeal than any Star Trek movie before it. I therefore rate this movie one of the MUST SEE movies of the year.

After over forty years of the Star Trek franchise and writers coming up with new enemies, they took a page from quantum physics and re-wrote history. Playing the altered time line card was probably the only thing left to breathe life into the series. Altering history has set the stage for a whole new future!! I have to be honest, i have never really been a Star Trek fan, but this movie was great. The visual aspect of the movie done by ILM, were spectacular, as the Enterprise has never looked more realistic. I thought the casting was excellent and if you have a chance to see it in IMAX, then go.

Sometimes when the ground has been explored as much as the Original ST has, you just have to begin again.
In typical Star Trek fashion, this version uses a time traveler to change reality and cast our heros into new lifes in their new alternate universe. Now, with the same DNA and temperment of the original crew, they get to explore the new universe and make their own way.
I smell a TV series coming out of this, and I'm planning on not missing any episode of it!

I have been beyond excited about this new start to the Trek universe since I saw the first teaser. The movie lived up to my every expectation and exceeded them. It's perfectly cast from top to bottom, and every character gets their moment to shine. The special effects are seamless and gorgeous, and oh, the new Enterprise is a lady to behold. The orchestral score is glorious, and I was stunned by the use of just music over some great action scenes...and sometimes the use of only silence. I am a deeply devoted Trek fan from way back, and I thought the new film was perfectly reverential to the original while finding a way to be a unique re-boot of the series. I found myself tearing up out of sheer joy more than a few times.

I watched star trek as a kid/teen/adult. I didn't like the idea of doing an early adult version of the cast. "why fix what isn’t broke". Overall they did a good job on acting. The script threw in some classic lines, that in my mind just made it a bit hokey. The Sound and Graphics were good. Hey, it was IMAX.Fight scenes were decent. Unfortunately fans of the "Enterprise" there wasn't much to see.We Love the enterprise and what it is and stands for. There were VERY few scenes which showed its beauty. Funny, I went in with low expectations, and I exited the movie with the “bar” right to my expectations. This movie will be better the 2nd time I watch. I won’t see it again until DVD.Once again, take this as it is. Views from a diehard fan.

I have been a Star Trek fan most of my life. I was both excited and skeptical when word of this movie reached me. despite many unknown actors. I was interested though, in those would would dare to re-work Star Trek. All my fears and all my hopes were quelled and fulfilled! But, I can say trust the judgments of the director! The characters are well played and this is not a weak plot! Special effects? WOW. Nothing cheesy or too unbelievable, just fast and fun. I plan on seeing this again as soon as possible and if in IMAX all the better! All gushing aside, This is not a re-make! This is not some re-hash. This is a great re-telling of a great story and I hope it is just the 1st chapter of many! I loved it!
