Those who worried that JJ Abrams would toss out all that is familiar in the Trek universe need not have. People will be talking about the integration of some of the best Trek lore into the story for years to come.
Anyone who enjoys a good action movie will enjoy this one, Trek fans or not. The action is nearly non-stop, and yet it also manages to tell the character story. That is very difficult to pull off, and is a real credit to the directing and editing of the film.
The casting and acting are first rate, and I believe long-time fans will truly enjoy what the new actors bring to the characters.
I had a sense this movie would be something special, and it is.

I wouldn't call myself a 'trekkie', but I have grown up with the Star Trek franchise, and I was totally entertained. Keeping in mind this was a fresh new look at the characters we all knew and loved, I thought they did a great job of tying in some of the old story lines while providing a new foundation for the next movies. Action, humor, sexy, and just plain fun. I really enjoyed it. For those who wanted it to hold exactly to the facts, it may have missed on a couple of counts, but I thought they did a good enough job of explaining why the differences occurred. Go see it. You'll have fun and not feel like you wasted any of your hard earned money. I look forward to seeing it again.

Great movie. I'm a fan of the franchise, and I think it was one of the better movies. Engaging the whole time. Sets the stage for new story lines with your favorite characters. Give new dynamics to old characters. New actors did well in keeping the important parts of the characters intact. Great effects. Great story. I'll see it again.
IMAX was great, but the screen is SO HUGE that you actually might miss something because you can't see it all at one time. Not a complaint, just an observation.

When I first saw the teaser for Star Trek I got excited. I watched most of the original series on the scifi channel. I wasn't worried about the movie ruining the series because pretty much everything cheesy or dumb has already been done in the series. However, I was blown away by how good the movie was in comparison to my expectations. JJ abrams brought all the classic lines and characters to a new audience without being cheezy or seeming forced. The casting was excellent as was the acting.The opening grabbed me and pulled me into the story. It was a very powerful and well done scene. From there the story built up becoming more and more intense until I thought it couldn't go any further. AND THEN IT DID!

I absolutely LOVED this movie! Admittedly, I've been a Star Trek fan since the mid-1970's, but that's not the only reason I liked it. It was just a fun, rockin' good time and a great (and very needed) reboot / reinvigoration of the franchise.

I have watched all the series and all the movies that go along with them. I was afraid this movie would fall flat (especially with the curse of the odd numbers). I was so surprised. The movie has a great mix of action, special effects, and pay attention to the original character's quirks. I so understand why they have nicknamed the film zero. Even if you are not a fan of any of the star treks you will enjoy the movie, though you may not understand why the rest of the audience is laughing and clapping. I saw the film as the IMAX experience...believe me pay the extra money for it....it is fabulous.

Star Trek exceeded my expectations in every way. JJ Abrams was able to make a true action film, stay true to Star Trek, and make a movie that is entertaining to those who never watched a single episode (though that is hard to imagine). The characters were excellent and the acting was superb. Even the most hypercritical will have a hard time finding something bad to say about this movie.

Well, that is all changed now. This movie makes me want to watch the travels of these unique and entertaining characters. I want to know how they interact and evolve.

This movie is what all fans were hoping it would be. Despite concerns about how a prequel could possibly integrate into the Trek timeline, Abrams really impressed.
The characters aren’t imitations/caricatures of the original cast, but fresh and well portrayed. Chris Pine as young Kirk is so easy on the eyes and really holds your attention. Spock was expertly portrayed AND reprised. Nimoy does not disappoint.
Eric Bana's villain is weak if compared to Plummer and Montalban, but his diabolical plan is really what our heroes must defeat... and the battle is exciting and fun! All the more so, given that we get to see our heroes in a totally new way.

I went into this with an open mind and I was rewarded with one of the most enjoyable movie experiences I've ever had. Yes, the story went in a new direction, but it built on everything that makes Star Trek enjoyable. The actors and writers did an incredible job of paying homage to the characters that we know and love, and yet the new things we hadn't seen before were totally believable. The action sequences were incredible, the sound was so intense it felt like I was there - and the picture, wow…definitely see this in IMAX. The Enterprise never looked so good, and when all was said and done, I was left with something else that I haven't felt for a long time, if ever - I am PROUD to be a Star Trek fan.

I was amazed at the quality of not only the special effects, but also the actors and the characters they portrayed. Granted, a couple of them used their signature lines from the original series, but that just added to the greatness of this movie. I think it was very well casted, and it was interesting to see the story line that lead up to Kirk becoming captain. Highly impressed!

This is one of my favorite movies ever. It was awesome in every way imaginable! Zachary Quinto (Sylar on Heroes) did an excellent job of playing the beloved Spock. Leonard Nemoy was the only person in the movie who got more applause than Zack. I watched it in IMAX and recommend it. There are many classic references - a real Trekkie's delight! Expect jaw dropping special effects, action scenes that make hold your breath, hysterical parts, that are always present in Star Trek movies, which are balanced out by tear-jerking tragedy. It has all of the classic plot twists, but in a new, inventive way. It shows the original cast at the beginning of their careers and Spock and Kirk as children. GO SEE STAR TREK IN IMAX!!

The biggest fear in working on a franchise film is to not respect where the film came from and to understand the fan base. Abrams and the talented team behind this film realized the responsibilities inherent to this task, and they paid tribute to the Star Trek movies and series that came before them, while not being beholden to them. They set a new tone, kicked the graphics into warp speed and really gave this movie a lot of heart. There were twists, turns and a lot of "in" references which were subtle enough not to be overreaching, but those unfamiliar with Trek can still watch this movie and feel like they're part of the universe. To Abrams and the talented crew -- thank you, and looking forward to the next!

I don't wait in lnes for movies or anything else, but I did this one; not by choice though. I haven't been to the movies in over a year because they haven't made anything worth watching. Thank God this wasn't disappointing. Had humor throughout and I really liked the actors. Loved seeing some fresh faces instead of the same old over paid untalented non humerous ones. They all did a wonderful job.
can't wait for the next one. WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOME ALIENS AND CREATURES.

You go to a movie to be entertained. From walking in 45 minutes before the film starts and seeing patrons dressed as Enterprise Crewman to the Opening sequence to the bitter end. We clapped, Laughed, and held on for dear life as we were treated to a wonderful story well done. First movie that I have ever gone to that 2/3 of the theater was full 45 minutes before the start and 2/3 full at the last credit rolling.

I am a diehard Star Trek fan, having grown up with ST:TOS and all the follow-on series. I have also read many of the books and listened to many audio books. So, I was watching to see how closely J.J. Abrahms was going to follow the "script".
For the most part, I enjoyed the movie and the actors in their leading character roles. I was a little disappointed at first because I had already read / listened to the two prequel books: "Best Destiny" and the original "First Contact" that chronicles the younger James Kirk and his father. However, once I watched the whole movie and understood it was an alternate timeline, then everything fit into perspective. This one is definitely a future keeper in my library.

The new Star Trek re energizes the series in ways I could have never imagined. It is Star Trek for both old and new fans. Those who are not fans, will still enjoy this movie. Not since the original Star Wars can I remember a cinematic epic on the scale that Star Trek was. The fans were cheering, we were clapping during key lines and character presentations in the movie, it was a real experience.
If you like Sci Fi anything, if you like Star Wars, if you like one of the Star Trek TV shows, GO WATCH THIS NOW!
