This latest offering from the Star Trek franchise is absolutley mind blowing. This film was made for the I-Max format. All the special effects, the fight scenes and close encounters made you feel like you are part of the movie. I was totally engrossed from start to finish. After 40 years of following the Star Trek saga across the universe, i felt totally satisfied and can't wait for the next 2 or 3 films with this very deserving new cast of actors. I kind of felt sorry for newbies but, then again, the movie stands on it's own and anyone will enjoy this 2 hour thrill ride on into the future. Kudos to J.J.Abrams for a fantanstic rendering of a timeless series.

This was a fantastic movie- it's not a remake of TOS, it's a different direction, and that's clear. The casting was spot-on, I didn't have a problem with any of them, and the plot was superb.

I went into this movie with an open mind just looking for some good summer blockbuster fun. J.J. Abrams and the rest of the cast and crew who brought this film to life delivered that and more!
This movie had it all! Intriguing story, GREAT characters, beautiful cgi that never once looked cheap, fantastic pacing, and smart twists that never made you feel lost. It was kind of a complicated story with the twists and there were a lot of alien names that sounded familiar from the Star Trek universe BUT they were able to explain everything perfectly.
You don't need to be a Star Trek fan to fully enjoy this movie. It's a sci-fi movie for everyone. Try to give it a chance and you'll see. And try to see it in IMAX too ;D

I am a long time Star Trek fan but I went with two people who were not. All of us loved this movie. It has everything you want in entertainment; drama, suspense, action, adventure, romance, special effects, a compelling story and subtle evocative acting.
The actors channeled their characters amazingly well and the balance between appealing to a wide audience and to the niche audience was reached.

They managed to make the old blend with the new. From my childhood here are a list of movies that passed the remake/update test: Batman Begins (Dark Knight), Spiderman1&2(3 sucked),the 2nd retry on Hulk, Ironman and Star Trek (this movie).
This movie is better than Wolverine! It i rare that I leave a movie like this and don't in some way say to myself....they should have done this or that a little better, but overall the movie was great. When I left Star Trek(2009), I thought...that was perfect, they got ever detail perfect. I love this movie! Best movie of 2009..(don't think Transformers2 will be this good). Not one minute of this movie is less than Awesome!

I have been a Star Trek fan since the first episode on TV. This is the best of the movies made so far. Dare i say even better than The Wrath of Khan. which i never thouht would be surpassed. It gets back to the basics of what made Star Trek a great series action and adventure without the poitically correct wussiness that crept into the NextGen iterations. STAR TREK sets a high bar for summer blockbusters. I went opening day with serious Trek fans, but I'd never seen a single episode or prior movie. We all thought it was FANTASTIC. Action-packed and high-gloss, with the right balance of humor & pathos, modernity & nostalgia. It's a re-boot that doesn't deny it's history. Very well done. WELL WORTH THE EXTRA $ FOR IMAX. Visual effects were stunning and sound quality (during warp speed, explosions, implosions, etc.) transported you there. Wouldn't call it "the greatest film ever" or even "best film of the year," but THIS is what going to the movies is all about. I doubt you'll be disappointed, unless you're looking for a duplicate of what's come before.

I saw this movie on an IMAX screen with digital projection and sound effects that resonated through your whole body and it was worth every penny of the $15 I paid to see it! They had plenty of inside references to delight the fans but I think they also did a good job of not making it something where newbies would feel like they're "on the outside looking in" at private inside jokes and such. They did a great job of straddling that line of giving just enough backstory to get a good feel for each character without going too in depth and risking a lot of boring scenes. I loved the plot twist.
Anyways, GO SEE IT if you haven't already! :-)

i had very high expectations for this movie and i feel that they were all met. not only did the actors do a phenomenal job portraying characters from the original series, the script kept things new and fresh so that i didnt feel like rewatching old episodes or movies from the series.

JJ Abrams is brilliant, the casting is perfect (although I could have done without seeing Tyler Perry!). The dialogue is great and the audio/visuals .... OMG! This film has plenty of nods to die hard fans of the original series (I loved getting more of the backstory on Adm. Pike). In addition to the offerings to Trek fans, there's plenty for newcomers. Good news ... there's already been a sign-off on the creation of a 2nd script!!

I have been a fan since TOS debuted. This movie exceeded my hopes and expectations. It is truly action driven and up to date while keeping the core characters true. A true mix of old and new. New and stand alone enough for the non-Trekkie. Enough nods to the old to make the die-hard Trekkie feel very much at home.

Is it possible to enhance a phenomenon such as Star Trek? After witnessing this Herculean film, the answer is vigorously YES. From the beginning scene, you are pulled into the picture by the breathtaking visuals, action & drama backed by a soaring score. Not only are the new faces believable in the familiar roles, but they are likeable. Zachary Quinto gets kudos for his portrayal of Spock, torn between his human & his Vulcan sides. Chris Pine is a believable version of a young Kirk, while Karl Urban's performance as Dr. McCoy is spot-on. This film is stunning to watch. I saw it in IMAX and it was worth every penny. Did it enhance the Star Trek universe as envisioned by Gene Roddenberry? Absolutely. And I think he would be proud.

What everybody has said, and more! I went in with low expectations. I'm a Star Trek fan, but have gotten used to disappointment. This movie has redeemed the Star Trek name. I am blown away by how J.J. Abrams was able to put a fresh new spin on the franchise, yet remain true to everything we know and love about it. It's more than a breath of fresh air. This movie is a new instant classic, and on my top 10 favorite movies list of all time. Just the right mix of action, adventure, suspense, nostalgia, humor, and fresh ideas to keep Star Trek moving forward. The movie left you smiling, clapping, and watering at the mouth for a sequel. They have saved the Star Trek name with this film. It is great one of the best Sci- fi films not just Star Trek films I have seen in a very long time. To me this film have given new life to Kirk, Spock and the rest of the crew. The storyline is smooth and flows well with the effects of the movie. This movie has faithfully gone where no one has gone before. The opening sequence brought tears to my eyes. I am not a die hard trekker, but of all the Trek movies I have seen; this one was the most Human. Dare I quote the James T Kirk of TOS? Many will debate the plot, but I think that the torch has been passsed and finally we will see a new Trek that will hopefully inspire countless generations in the years to come. I for one; want a series with this very cast. I do not care how much it costs the studio. You cannot put a price on quality. To quote John F Kennedy..." We do these things not because they are easy, but because they are hard. " The eyes of the world will always be looking for STAR TREK.

The best movie I've seen this year. While it takes place at the beginning of James T Kirk's career (and life), it is not simply a "and so it began" tale - there's a twist to it, unlike the boring 'Enterprise' TV series. All the actors are great. The story holds up on its own even if you don't know anything about Starfleet Academy, but has plenty of great 'morsels' for Star Trek fans. The action is intense and unrelenting, but the script, direction, and acting is so excellent that the story and character development is not overshadowed by it, and the special effects are superb - there are only a few times where you go "WOW, great effect", most of the times they just serve the action and story very well. Go see it! I will - again

I greatly enjoyed Star Trek not only as a fan of JJ Abrams, Damon Lindelof, and Michael Giaccino but as a budding Star Trek TOS fan. There are inside nods to fans but still enough to draw in newcomers. I highly recommend this movie as a great kick-off to the summer blockbuster season.

Brilliant camera work, superb soundtrack, and the best acting we've seen in a Star Trek movie in a very long time - maybe ever. A fully realized audio-visual universe that delights and amazes. Take all that and put it on an IMAX and you achieve the ultimate in escapist entertainment, which is to actually BE THERE. Go see it, and go see it IMAX.

I grew up with Star Trek as my dad grew up with Star Trek. I have seen and loved it all, for the most part anyway. This movie made me happy, it really did. Everything about this movie was top notch. They just made Star Trek popular again. This movie is one of the best movies I have ever seen, honestly, not just because I am a Star Trek fan. The cast, the effects, the story, contributed to the giant grin across my face the entire move. Thank You for making this movie as you did.

When I heard they were reffering to this movie as "this years Iron Man", I was skeptical. I usually think of Star Trek as being able to stand on its own, not needing another good movie to build it up. In no way does this movie need any help. It was fantastic. The characters I grew up loving have not been changed. The cast was fantastic! I laughed, I cried, I bit my nails.....what a fantastic ride. I will definately watch this movie 4 or 5 times. I think this may be my favorite movie of the summer.

Being an avid Star Trek fan, I awaited this movie's opening with mixed feelings... would I be able to connect this with the Star Trek I have always loved or would it be a disappointing attempt at reviving the cultural icon? From the very moment the movie began through to the end, I realized I had nothing to fear. I found myself engrossed with the cleverly written storyline and the cast of talented actors chosen to play the characters I loved. Kudos to JJ Abrams & everyone who worked on this (love Zachary Quinto!) – they have produced a quality movie that respects the vision of Star Trek and made it relevant to people today. I can only hope another installment is already in the works!

WOW!! Do you really love Star Trek? If not, MAYBE YOU SHOULD!! Don't miss this movie no matter who you are -- unless you're just a Sci-Fi hater. Anyway, the characters have been magnificently re-captured in these young people and Star Trek will never be the same! The storyline grabs your attention and holds it from beginning to end.

My 6 year old son, my husband and I loved it! My son proclaimed it 'Awesome...better than Star Wars 'cuz it had a creepy monster and lots of cool explosions!' We now have another Trek fan in the family. Seeing it on IMAX was the best.
