I am a long time Trekker, but entered the movie with no real expectations of maintaining the classic 'Trek storyline. That was good, because the old story line is out the window. I enjoyed the actors well enough; the cast is likeable. The story, however, was irrational and poorly explained. Temporal manipulation is the Deus ex machina in sci-fi today, and Abrams loves it so, I guess I'm not surprised. In any case, the FX are stupefying, the pace is brisk, and the film is generally fun. If one lets go of the past, I think the reboot can be successful. They need better writing, though. 'Trek fans will not put up with bad stories.

Star Trek successfully combined nerdy "trekie" specifics with a show that anyone would love. The digital effects are there for the cgi geeks. The movie makes all the softies cry in the first five minutes. It has all the classic lines with some subtler, one episode references (ie. swashbuckling Sulu). It also has been brought up to speed; the ship is modern, but still pays homage to the old NCC-1701. Lots of people are saying Star Trek is back, but I don't think it's ever been this good. The young cast is phenomenal, both in their mimicking of the old characters, and in bringing their own to the characters. Stop reading this and go buy tickets.

Wow, Great film considering I'm by no means a Trekkie, I prefer the Star Wars movies but for knowing very lil of these movies i was able to follow along very nicely. The very BEST Star Trek movie since The Wrath of Khan.
There was not a dull moment in this entire film....it had it all, humor, action, love, special effects, sadness....u name it. The movie was fast paced and actually EXCEEDED my expectations, and I'm quite hard on Trek films.
The entire "alternate timeline" theory is good and I was alittle concerned about changes to the canon, but all in all, FANTASTIC FILM and well worth the price. They needed to do something to bring Star Trek into the 21st century.
Another thing, u can watch it with absolutely NO prior Star Trek experience or exposure, and it stands alone as a GREAT Sci Fi film.

This is the best Star Trek movie ever made. The classics are classics. I will never take anything away from those movies. I loved em all! But this movie is Modern. Its got the right flash, the right bang, the right relevance of today's times. The phrase "this is not ur fathers Star Trek" doesnt even begin to say it. Faithful to the characters long beloved personalities and strengths and faults and looks, the movie goes WAY beyond homage, way beyond redo or reimagining. This is a movie's movie. It is a Star Trek for the ages, for ALL ages. I highly recommend this film to all. I can't wait till I see it again. Congrats, J.J. You did it.....

The IMAX experience is a must.
I was praying that this would not be one of those horrid or cheesy remakes where an older movie or series attempts to revive their past glory and earn a few extra bucks.
This movie did not disappoint in any way. I loved seeing the younger characters and how their youthfulness shaped the characters that grew up and fell in love with.
I did compare this movie to all of the TV series (original, TNG DS9, Enterprise) and the movie series (original, TNG) and I was overwhelmed to see how the writers, directors, etc took great measures to pay respect to all things Star Trek that came before while still giving it that "creative license" spin.
Gene Rodenberry would be very proud.

Was totally blown away by this movie!! Younger cast was a terrific compliment to the original show. The mannerism and the chemistry was phenominal. On top of that the IMAX experience enhanced the film and in my opinion is the only way to see a film. Kudos to the innovators of this technological marvel. I am an old school Trekker and deliberately stayed away from reading about this movie. I was really pleased with the new direction the franchise has taken. The disappointments are slight: Sulu is not Japanese, Eric Bana is not given enough to do, etc. The look of the film is spectacular, the plot is as entertaining as Wrath of Khan or First Contact and I will be seeing it again in a few days. It's been a long time since a movie left me feeling this good.

Leonard Nimoy mentioned in several interviews before the release of this movie that this is the film that will bring Star Trek back. While being hopeful, I was so very skeptical that it was so. However, after now watching this movie TWICE, I agree that if ever there was a chance for Star Trek to come back, this is it! This movie is AWESOME! It has the PERFECT amount of action, romance and Sci-Fi! I DEFINITELY recommend this movie to EVERY human being! I have been a Star Trek fan for as long as i can remember so i was STOKED when I started seeing the trailers for this movie. This was definitely a fun way to spend a couple of hours--haven't kept up with Star Trek in a long time. It's a non-stop 2 hour ride and the IMAX is definitely worth it.

Seeing this movie was a true experience! The brilliant special effects. The attention to detail. The actors didn't just reprise the characters we all know and love, they showed a new side to each and every member of the Star Trek crew. Great writing!!! I'd recommend this film to anyone.

Im a havent been a star trek fan in a while. this movie brings Star Trek Back to life the younger cast and the constant action push this movie to the top of the all time greats list. this movie was amazing from beginning to finish and i will be going to see it again. The IMAX is something everyone should experience especially with this movie. Everything was crystal clear and ubelievable.
