I was worried the prequel would feel contrived, and wasn't sure how I'd feel about seeing a "new" Spock, Kirk and crew. I was stupendously pleased! It was funny...scary...moving...exciting. I run out of adjectives. A must see movie!!!!! (and I hope there are more to come!!!)

This is the prequel to end all prequels. The special effects are de-emphasized to highlight the plot line and character conflicts. This movie harkens back to the original. It captures not only the characters, but the spirit, of James T. Kirk and his crew as they boldly went where truly no one had gone before. The plot is linear and clear, but still action packed and unpredictable. The acting was spectacular, and the viewer is sucked into the experience much as one might get sucked into a black hole (but with more pleasurable results). It is truly a must see!

A wonderful movie. The makers of Star Trek clearly understand that science fiction is about people, not flashy special effects or plot twists (though there is no shortage of either in Star Trek).
Having grown up with the original series, I was leery of trying to reinvent the cast with new actors. But the makers have improved on a cultural icon. Every character is superior to the original cast, with the exception of Chekhov, who seems to be there for slapstick purposes. (Chekhov has a Russian accent; we get it; move on.) I hope this is the first of many films with this cast.
The first few minutes (preceding the credits) are some of the most riveting I have ever seen on film.

J.J. Abrams has brought Star Trek to a new level. He managed to pull the tradition of Star Trek back to the leading edge of Sci Fi entertainment. The movie is exciting, funny and true to all of the best of the original series. The actors are great and really nail all of the characters as young officers. I watched the original Star Trek series as a child. Seeing the younger versions of the characters was so much fun. Knowing the story line in the future made it that much more enjoyable. The only thing left out that I wish had been included was seeing Christine Chapel. Other than that, I thought it was perfect. We saw it in an IMAX theatre (had been waiting to see it there since seeing a trailer several months ago) and it was fantastic. I am now officially a Trekkie.

What was there not to praise? I would be the first one to cut this movie up had there been any sign of desperation, or insult to the Star Trek cult. As a daughter and wife of avid Trekkers -- and one myself -- this movie was smart, sexy and had special effects that surpassed expectations (even in a "Pirates" and "Star Wars" ILM world). The story tie-ins to the original series were clever and loyal -- and not so obvious -- making it rewarding to watch as well. I highly recommend this to the whole family.

This is one of the best Star Trek movies I have seen in years. It gets back to the roots and style of "Trek humor" and the Trek philosophy which endeared this franchise to millions. Excellent cast - they were all wonderful! This new Trek successfully blends the story with the CGI effects of the 21st century. In addition, the story line is wonderful and (especially for Trekkers) makes you wonder who or what is coming next. The IMAX experience was the best. This was my first IMAX experience and it will be one I NEVER forget.... IMAX is the ONLY way to see a movie of this type! I'd give the entire experience 10 stars if I could!

Star Trek is great entertainment; it has very good pace and humor. The actors playing young versions of the crew we have gotten to know for 40 years have their parts down really well. The script and acting is, for the most part, quite believable and natural.
I am a long time Trek fan and I am very happy with this release. You might see me first in line for the DVD!

The absolute best ever movie! I am so happy that J. J. Abrams and his team selected the absolutely best cast to bring back my favorite series of movies of all time. I was able to see this movie with my wife, who is not a Star Trek fan as am I, but because of this movie, my wife is a Trekkie NOW!

The best movie I've seen in YEARS. I'm a loyal fan from the original series on, but this one beats them all, hands down. The whole audience at the IMAX stood up & cheered wildly at the end.
