I've seen all the Star Trek movies, and this was definitely one of the best. The guy who plays Spock is perfect, and Kirk, McCoy and Scott are great also. Chechov is a little annoying, not sure why they didn't get a real Russian actor. Anyway, the chemistry between the actors is excellent, and of course the action and special effects were fantastic. The story line is very clever as the future has been changed so we now can't expect the crews lives to be the same as they were the first time around. I believe a few more movies will be made with these actors and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing them.

The movie was great, but the theatre (AMC Mercado in Sunnyvale, CA) had the sound turned up so loud it was almost unbearable. The person I was with got up and left half way thru the movie because they got a headache from the sound. I heard other people complaining that it was too loud as well. It's a shame when the theatre ruins a blockbuster like this. It was $25.50 for 2 tickets plus $8.50 for 2 drinks. I don't think I will be going back any time soon.

I definitely enjoyed, and recommend, this movie. As a long time Star Trek fan, I went in prepared not to enjoy it, but the movie delivered, staying true to the spirit of the original series, with none of the techno-babble and self-righteousness of the Next Generation.
The portrayal of the characters was good, showing how they developed into the older personalities of the original TV series.
Only one problem: I now have a Green Girl fantasy.....

This movie far exceeded my expectations. I carries much of the appeal that the series had - humor, adventure, excitement, and just plain fun. This is a great movie for Trek fans and other Sci-Fi lovers.

Being a longtime fan of Star Trek in all its incarnations over the decades, I went to see this film with excitement and trepidation alike, having heard how radically different a take J J Abrams would put into it, but I was literally blown away. This film will have any hardcore Trek fan at times laughing at the great references to the old series, and shedding a tear or two at the sheer beauty and greatness of the film. Saw it in IMAX in digital video the second time around, and although STAR TREK was not filmed in 70mm IMAX, the digital video made the images so crisp, and digital EX surround sound really immersed you in the action and in Michael Giacchino's beautiful, soaring score. A must-see for Trekkers and non-Trekkers alike!

I'm an "old timer" who dates back to the beginning in 1966. I've always enjoyed Star Trek and the other spin offs (The Next Generation, Voyager, Deep Space Nine, and Enterprise). This was excellent. We finally have some history to explain these characters. Must see this on an Imax Screen!

Loved this movie!!! I am a fan of the old shows and "most" of the movies. But! if you know nothing about this franchise you will like the movie, they go back and explain and show how James T Kirk and Spock and the rest of his crew how they got there posts. I thought it was just really well done and loved the movie, oh if you can see it in IMAX do it!! This was the first movie I ever saw in IMAX and man what a experiance!!!

Awesome. It was so well cast and acted it was almost scary. I'm a long time Trek fan (not fanatic, there IS a difference LOL) and loved the twists and turns in the film. There was plenty of action, some insights into the main characters and lots of laughter all around. I believe Gene and Majel would be proud!

If you have not seen this yet, I recommend you go see it but see it in IMAX. The casting was righ on and the action was non stop. The brought information for the Trekkies and it was subtle enough to not throw off the non Trekkies.

I am a TOS fan mainly (I do like the other shows that have been shown since, but it's Kirk and the original Enterprise crew that really floats my boat).
I was a little worried about going to see the movie at first, but then the movie started, and I just fell in love with it. (FTR, I did read/buy the comic adaptation of the story that happened in the future).
Zachary Quinto did an awesome job as Spock. Leonard Nimoy is always a joy to see in his role of Spock Prime. Chris Pine was a very good and decent Kirk. And Karl Urban as Leonard "Bones" McCoy was just one of the best performances I've seen in a long time!
I highly recommend the movie. If I could have, I would have given it more than 5 stars. Honest!

Went and saw this movie with a group of 11 - and everyone loved it. Don't know what the low reviewers missed in the plot line that made this new twist believable, and opened it up for a whole new series of sequels. The casting was great as you could pick out the original characters from their dialogue. The action was non-stop from start to finish, with hardly a slow moment. The CGI was fantastic. My only complaint - there was so much action so fast on the IMAX screen it was hard to take it all in, so this will definiately be purchased on Blu-ray to watch on much more modest screen where I can enjoy it all over again.

Let it be known that I am not a die-hard Trekkie, I've enjoyed the various shows from time to time but never got that into them. That being said I really really enjoyed this film. The film's funny, got great action sequences, has a cast that's enjoyable in their roles and is just an all around strong summer action flick.

I saw this in the Imax the second time when I took my wife (I had to promise to take her to Imax for her to let me see it opening night). We got there later than we want ed and sat 2 rows back from the screen...not something I will do again for an IMax movie! Still it's such a great movie...not stop action and no slow parts at all! Hope they make another!

As a die-hard trekky I was concerned that this new movie wouldn't live up to what Star Trek is all about. Also, friends had seen the movie prior to me seeing this and they loved it, so my expectation level was very high. I hope I wouldn't be disappointed because it was so high. Both couldn't be further from the truth. This Star Trek movie is AWESOME and should be seen by trekkies and non-trekkies. Everyone will love it. There is non-stop action with a mix of humor. They did so well with this that there will be others in this series of new Star Trek films and I can't wait!

I totally recommend Star Trek. It is a Fantastic movie. But the fact that IMAX has allowed AMC theaters to use their brand to describe this showing is a lie and a travesty. It is no better that a showing on a regular screen and I've seen both. The screen is not large enough and the print is not any better is quality. If you want to see IMAX and get the experience, plan for it and go see it at a REAL IMAX theater.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Good Movie, but I didn't see the benefit of the IMAX technology. Also the storyline went in a different direction from the original series in regards to the destruction of Vulcan and the death of Spock's mother. I could see the character of an older Spock come back to the past to help save the future. The future did not go back after the death of Nero though.

Fabulous movie. The characters are fleshed out so that you do not need to be a trekkie to understand the movie but if you are, you will love it too. The music is wonderful.

My wife and I loved the film. The casting was excellent, and all of the actors did a great job. Spock and Kirk in particular were well done. All of the characters had their moment in the spotlight.
