I usually go the the movies for the popcorn. And if the movie is a good one then so much the better. There were a couple of good belly laughs in the movie but it's a good thing the popcorn was really good. Wait for this to go into the resale bin at your local movie rental store and get a good book instead. Oh, and the really good part...it was a short movie.

I thought this movie was very funny. I like both George Clooney and Ewan McGregor. Though there were some definite weak spots, the entire theatre seemed to appreciate the humor and I did as well. Much better than the doom and gloom trailers we saw for upcoming movies.

Many people think way too much about movies and expect way too much. Just go to the movies and enjoy the movie! This movie was funny and a little slow in some spots. The actors did a fine job. Clooney likes doing strange but funny movies and Bridges is perfect for these parts! I took my 17 year ld to the movie for his birthday and it was nice to here a 17 year old LAUGH OUT LOUD when normally you wouldn't here anything! I like movies that are unusual and funny and this movie is just that.

This movie is very funny; both my wife and I enjoyed it. It is very Coen Brothers-like in that it's a dark but hilarious comedy. Clooney is wonderful, as is Ewan MacGregor, somewhat spoofing his Jedi role in the Star Wars films. The great thing is that although it seems like an absurdist fiction, this film is based on true events. I recommend it to anyone who likes comedies like "Being John Malkovich" or Coen brothers.

I wondered at the generally negative reviews until I realized the reviewers looked upon The Men Who Stare at Goats as a failed comedy rather than as a drama (its stated genre) that needed better editing to really be an excellent motion picture. Disjointed editing was the bete noir of Clooney's Syriana just as it appears to be this movie's. Kevin Spacey's role is little more than a cameo as presented in the film I saw on opening day; this makes me wonder just how much of his performance ended up on the cutting room floor. Perhaps the fault lies not so much with the editors but in the producers failing to decide whether "Silence of the Goats" is a drama, a phantasy, an allegory, a slapstick comedy, or a true to life drama.

My wife and I tend to quirky movies or those with strong plots and scripts. Big fans of George Clooney and Kevin Spacey, we were looking forward to seeing this but left unsatisfied and disappointed. Clooney delivers another strong performance; Spacey and Jeff Bridges are good, too.
But overall this movie is a mess. As others have noted, most of the funny lines are in the trailers. Halfway through the plot and filming begin to wander. Perhaps this is intended as a metaphor about the war or a screed against the military generally, but it didn't work. Fifteen minutes from the end we were ready to go but decided to stick it out.
The ending is what you do when you can't come up with a meaningful or touching way to get to the final credits.

While humorous and satirical, it was slow in places and a little disjointed. I enjoyed the performances, but perhaps I was in the mood for something a little more involving and, though I laughed in the appropriate places throughout, it left me with a blah feeling when I walked out of the theater.

Forget about the plot development and just enjoy the ride. Yes, it is. a shame that trailers give half of the jokes/scares/whatever of almost all movies. That said, this was more enjoyable than most other movies this year. Sure, it's a one trick poney and meanders a bit, but the cast is great and lines are consistanly funny . Not all of them are given away in the trailer, either.
Had I gone looking for more, I might have disappointed. It's a buddy movie with many of my favorite male actors hamming it up for the camera - no more, no less. It did what it set out to do. I got what I paid for.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

it just never came together.......laughed maybe 3 times.....Clooney and Bridges are funny dudes, but not in this movie......is it possible niether read the script in it's entirety........???

The story line was lacking with an obscure ending but the individual performances were great and I walked away with a new respect for George Clooney in particular.
Worth watching just to see these actors characters.
