With the on-screen talent involved, this could have been a fun movie. But Heslov created a self-satisfied, uninvolving mess that wastes everyone on screen. The script has maybe four good lines - all in the trailer - and it bounces back and forth between time periods so much you can't possibly care about the characters, story or action. You just watch, uninvolved, waiting for it to be over.

I've read reviews slamming the director of this movie, but I have to say it holds together very very well. This is a good comedy - not as goofy as you might think.
There are some real laugh out loud moments and some bits of surprising poignancy. Jon Ronson and Peter Straughan have written a wonderful screenplay, telling a strange story in a way that makes draws you in and makes you happy you've gone along for the ride.
The acting, not surprisingly, is first class and its just a fun night at the movies.

This movie is a good vehicle to look at George Clooney and the other great actors, but the story and movie are not good. The cast is great and the acting is very good. However, the movie makes an unsuccessful farce out of a program that was serious and takes at least one contemporary example of mind warfare (subjecting detainees to strobe lights and inane music) and marginalizes it by including it in this farce.

The only way you would sleep through this movie is if you are very young and the 70s and 80s were before you were born.
This movie was full of so many zingers that I found myself waiting for the next one. George Clooney was funny and no, I am a Ewan McGregor fan and not a Clooney fan. I would have liked to have seen more of the rest of the cast but cie la vie. I came out feeling refreshed.

So much promise and so little to show for it! How can Clooney, Bridges & Spacey team up and have it result in such a dull movie? The film's 90 minutes running time felt like 3 hours! I was well-rested and about 30 minutes in it became difficult to stay awake. I tried to leave the theater through astral projection - that didn't work. Then I tried to self-hypnotize myself into "liking the movie" - that didn't work. I finally made it to the end by taking short 1 minute naps in between the movie's "drip torture" plot, pacing and dialogue! You will be better off to go to a petting zoo and stare at goats yourself. That will be high entertainment compared to this waste of energy and time.

Even though AMC theaters run a $6.00 seat before Noon even on new run movies, it was not worth the price! If you saw the commercials or a preview on HBO those were all the funny parts of the movie! I anticipated seeing this movie given the cast and the quirky nature of what I thought the movie was about. What the movie turns out to be is a haphazard series out of order time line sequences that sometime make little sense and slightly difficult to follow. I liked this. I really didn't have the highest expectations going in. I figured it would be like "O Brother Where Art Thou". It was a little more light and fun and less high brow. It also reminded me of "Royal Tenenbaums"...but the overall story was very interesting. Jeff Bridges is great, Clooney is great, I think they only cast Ewen McGregor so he could talk about "jedi" in another movie. His American accent annoyed me a bit...but I got over it for the sake of the story. I liked it, especially the ending - cool little twist.

Just watch the trailers and you will see 80 % of the movie. The other 20% is an infomercial for the Democrats. The actors were great but they can only do so much when at 20 minutes from the end of the movie, the writers give up on the ending. An erie scene is when a soldier goes beserk and starts shooting at soldiers. Don't waste your money on going see the movie or buying the DVD. I felt robbed, because the advertisements sold a different bill of goods.

In these sad economic times and with last weeks' current events, I just wanted a couple of laughs to relax me. That is what this movie is, just a couple of laughs. There really is no heavy plot. like i said, im not really sure what to think- i love the cast- i love that its basically based on a true story but there are so many elements there that make it really not worth seeing it in the theater- there were just so many times were i was either bored or just tired of the dialog- the humor was wasnt funny most of the time- the plot was hard to follow- i really wanted to like this movie- i love clooney, spacey, bridges and everyone else but nothing really pulled me in- i really dont know what to say- yes its a good rental- and im sure we'll see it on usa or tnt one day- but its not worth seeing it in the theaters- well- view at your own risk

I was so disappointed by this move. As much as I LOVE George, Ewan, Jeff, and Kevin this movie was just not good. It was not funny, it had no coherent plot line, the ending was anti-climactic. Do not pay to see this movie.

This was a well cast, quirky and revealing look at some sections of our USA Cold War research and actions. In the tradition of "The U-2 Affair" and "The Invisible Government" by Lederer and Burdick , this journalist's book was made into a movie that attempts to tell audiences about the really weird stuff some of our agencies have done. My feeling was - it was Impossible to make certain craziness cohere to a central truth.

This movie boldly attempts to deliver humor similar to the miserable movie love guru. Depending on the mood you might be in, this movie might amuse you or disappoint you. The best parts of the movie are in the trailer. I would not waste 10$ on this movie, but i did . No regrets... Enjoyed moments of snickers and guffaws. No big laughter moments here. I must anyways admit and admire the writers and producers who came up with such a different storyline and bravely produced it. The movie could have been improved upon and created more punch lines that sock your guts, but alas it stands weak on comedy, brave on story , pathetic on dialogues.
