Why is LSD necessary to want a world full of peace and love? The story line was unclear, Kevin Spacey's character unnecessary and the premise stupid. Why do I want to see George Clooney sweaty and dirty? There wasn't a female in a lead role and I felt my time was poorly spent. The volume in the theater was too loud and the food too salty, as well.

The message of the book and movie are different. The book is basically a documentary of interviews with people that claimed to have been involved in the First Earth Battalion group within the Army. The movie takes several of the book ideas and invents a “historical fiction” type of story around it. Taken in this context, I thought it was hilarious with a great group of actors all doing a fabulous job (in a similar vein, like Ghostbusters incorporating paranormal research jargon and experiments). In particular, Ian McEwan was surprisingly effective in his role and the references to Star Wars were funny, if not drawn out a few times too many. Clooney, Bridges and Spacey did their usual great jobs as well.

A shallow movie that tries to be funny by mocking the New Age movements of the 70's and 80's, but at the same time trying to respect the ideals of the New Age movements. The climax of the movie involves people's conduct when they are high on LSD; merely a twist on supposedly funny conduct by people who act stupidly when they are drunk (which also is never funny).
Also, the movie unsuccessfully tries to channel "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou" and "The Big Lebowski," but it utterly fails to approach the impact of either of those two movies.

I read reviews that were not great on this one but the cast was enough to get me to go anyway because reviews aren't the end all. Well, the reviews were right. In spite of the great cast, the movie was slow. Clooney again played a quirky character ( so were ALL the big names in this movie). It just left me flat and I actually caught myself almost starting to doze a time or two ( and it wasn't a long movie either). If your just determined to see it, save the $10 and rent it from NetFlix.

I knew this was going to be an unusual movie and was in the mood for just this kind of show - I thought it was great. Easy to watch without too much gore for a war related movie - Funny, with several twists that weren't all predictable. Like other reviews we saw, yes, there were some funny things in it; but it is definately one we would have rather stumbled on to at home when there was nothing else on. It was a waste of some extremely good talent; but I imagine they had fun making it. We go to a movie most every week, and pretty much wish we had missed this one. My husband always laughs at me because no matter what movie we see, even some pretty bad ones, I always admit that it wasn't so good, but that I liked it. This time, I could not say that I liked it. It did not offend me, or bore me, or scare me; but it did not hold my interest at all.

Loved it. It's wildly creative and hilarious. Absolutely off-center, which just tickles me to no end. McGregor and Clooney are so NOT right together that they're perfect, which fits the story nicely. Bridges was a hippy delight. And who doesn't love to hate Kevin Spacey once in a meaty while? All of the acting was dead-on brilliant. Really loved it.
