Rarely do I see people remaining glued to their seats long after the credits begin streaming, but I certainly did after this movie - and I was one of them. Morgan Freeman, I'm sure has made Nelson Mandela a happy man, because his portrayal of him was wonderful. Matt Damon had certainly bulked up for the Rugby Captain, and he, too, did a marvelous job. I wanted to see him take more of the leadership role but finally he did! I won't say any more to not give the plot away, but Clint Eastwood rocked this production!!!

What an inspiring story of a nation uniting for their Rugby team for the world cup match and in the process uniting with each other. I don't think you could have had a better star playing Mandela than Morgan Freedom. What a perfect fit. Hopefully viewers will stay and see the slides of that 'real' world cup team and Mandela at the end. Great job from Clint Eastwood.

In a word - "BRAVO!". A story of deep forgiveness, hope, and aspirational leaderhip, most uplifting & hopeful. Morgan Freeman's performance was outstanding and one of the best of his career and Matt Damon was on par with the kinds of performances I come to expect from him, even better. Freeman's performance was Oscar worthy and should not be overlooked. I recommend this to anyone and it presents many great teachable moments for youth who were not around or do not recall the story that is the back drop of this outstanding piece of work. Cudos again to Clint Eastwood for bringing to life this wonderful story of the human spirit.

i read the first reviews and they were horrible ! what movies did they see ?? maybe they need a child like theme !! this movie will win an acadamey award for best picture and best actor and maybe best supporting actor. a true story showing the depth and courage of two people on opposite sides coming together to unite for the good of their country. if it does not win an acdamey award i will be surprised.

What can I say. They took a great story and made a pretty bad movie. Bad character developement. Bad editing. Way too long. Too many shots of people watching a rugby game on the tv. There were supposed to be a couple of parts with good laughs and there were crickets in the audience of a packed theatre. So boring my wife fell asleeep. I liked Gran Torino and think Clint is a good director, but this one fell short. I think if the film had about a half hour or so cut of useless scenes and maybe added some more scenes of character developement, it may have been an ok movie.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

If you like Morgan Freeman, Matt Damon, Rugby, South Africa, good directing or good acting, then you should see this movie. If you, as I do, like all of the above, why haven't you seen it yet. If you are looking for a strictly rugby movie you may be a little disappointed. There is great rugby, but it is the story of healing a nation and rugby is the vehicle. It does highlight the strength and ability of Nelson Mandela and Francois Pienaar to pull the best out of those around them.
