Morgan Freeman exudes such warmth and goodness of character as Mendella and Matt Damon plays the perfect rugby captain. Movie was entertaining and enlightening! The music score was wonderful and accented and heightened the feeling of anticipation and excitement during the movie. It gave an accurate and uplifting portray of Mandela and South Africa at the time this movie was taking place. Morgan Freeman could have been Mandela and Matt Damon was wonderful. Photography was very well done. Definitely worth seeing.

I had very high expectations going into this movie. I immediately picked up the irony of this black man coming to power in a nation dominated by racism. There is no doubt that Nelson Mandela was an extraordinary man, and was able to draw parallels with his unique situation of having been imprisoned for 27 years. However, the movie moved a bit on the slow side; I found myself nodding off now and then. The rugby shots were confusing, to say the least. I mean, this turtle thing they do with all the grunting...these scenes could have been done in a second or two instead dragging on and on. Morgan Freeman and Mat Damon were amazing and probably will be nominated for Oscars. And kudos to Clint Eastwood with his "platinum" touch!

This movie was not about aparthied... it was just set in that time and place. It was (is) about rugby. "On Any Given Sunday" this is NOT. As if full motion rugby is not confusing enough (or boring enough) this movie shows a lot of rugby plays in s...l...o...w... motion. because of this, the final game takes WAY too long and.... I walked out as soon as I saw the score. This movie does not highlight the history and does little to ilistrate the importance of tolerance (unless you just need to learn to tolerate movies that are way too long for what they are showing). Rent this for a dollar from a machine at the grocery store if you are having trouble sleeping some night. Otherwise, save your money.

I had just heard an expert on NPR give her review of "Invictus" and I was prepared to be disappointed. When the movie ended I was convinced that she saw a different film. "Invictus" was wonderful ! Morgan Freeman is very convincing as Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon is fabulous as Francois - the rugby star. The movie is appropriate for all ages. If you like action with a purpose; if you like historical significance; and if you admire good acting then do not miss this one. I give it FIVE big stars. A perfect film.

I was expecting a great movie since this was directed by Clint Eastwood. He has had a great run of fantsatic movies over the years and I thought this one would be the same. As another reviewer previous to mine said, this was a great story but an average movie. Acting was subpar and the story moved really slowly. The CGI shots of the crowd were used too much through the rugby scenes and the movie as a whole left me underwhelmed.

Morgan Freeman seems to inhabit Mandela's soul and Matt Damon is a highly believable South African jock. Many seem to think the movie is about a sports triumph, but it's really about the political triumph of Mandela. I could have done without some of the cliches in the climactic rugby match -- slow motion, inspirational speech in the huddle -- especially since we all know how it's going to end. But overall, an acting tour de force.

The story this film is based on is an amazing one. It is a true story. It David vs. Goliath in every way and David wins. It is a great story, but the film was just good. Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman are terrific, but they aren't in every scene. It seems that Mr. Eastwood has once again went with some new actors and it just doesn't work for this movie. Nor does the way the filming has been done. The camera movements and the random scenes with the security detail and Matt Damon's character's family seem out of place. I enjoyed the film, but it wasn't what I knew it could be and that left me a bit disappointed.

Aside from the fact that Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon give extraordinary and nuanced performances, the historical and emotional integrity of this movie is exceptionally good. It weaves vignettes from the characters' lives and work that capture the political, economic and social challenges faced by South Africa and her people as they moved away from apartheid under the leadership of Nelson Mandela. While this movie could have slipped into being hokey or even taken liberties with history, Clint Eastwood showed the self-restraint necessary to create a study of human perseverance and strength in the face of nearly insurmountable odds. Kudos to Eastwood, Freeman and Damon!

It's a feel-good story, but Clint Eastwood doesn't let it get sappy or silly. It works, and the acting is solid. Most of all, it's a great reminder of a modern hero, Nelson Mandela. My only complaints are that it gets a bit tedious and the music is pretty bad.
