An inspiring movie that will spark interesting family discussions about tolerance, courage, and rising above one's personal desire for revenge. The kids in the family will enjoy the sports scenes while the adults will appreciate the uplifting story of Nelson Mandela, a true hero trying to rebuild (and redeem) a nation. Morgan Freeman's Mandela is amazing, a sure Oscar-caliber performance. A bit too many repetitious rugby scenes and a bit too little dialogue from the main characters make this a "four star" rather than a "five star", but still a movie the whole family will enjoy.

The movie was just excellent. Morgan Freeman was amazing. He completely channeled Nelson Mandela in his speech and his mannerisms. Matt Damon, all buffed up, was also terific. Clint Eastwood has brought us an amazing story with heart and humanity as well as a sense of realism and true excitement. Not since Ron Howard's Apollo 13 has a director done such a fabulous job of building suspense around a historical event whose outcome we already know. And, as always, a great soundtrack. This is an uplifting, wonderful movie that people of all ages and all walks of life will treasure.

While there are elements of a sports movie in it, this movie is about a remarkable human being: Nelson Mandela. This film makes clear how Mandela belongs in the pantheon of Ghandi & King: his actions depicted in the film seem so obvious and right yet impossible for 99.99999% of humanity to do and live by.
Just as Mandela used Rugby to unify a nation, Clint Eastwood uses it to tell a story most Americans wouldn't otherwise go see.

We were really excited to see Invictus after all the Golden Globe buzz. It is a Clint Eastwood movie...he never disappoints. But no so in this case. The movie is really slow. The build up to the World Cup is choppy and you never know how they are doing until the finals. Matt Damon's performance is stiff. And it never really explains what Invictus is or how it had this dramatic effect in Nelson Mandela's life. Too long, boring and quite frankly a big disappointment! Go see "The Blind Side" instead!!!

Given the scope of news that we as Americans are exposed to, we often feel that we are more knowledgeable about historical events in other countries and cultures than we really are. This movie provided an interesting & "non-inflammatory" view of Mandela's ascent to the presidential position. The music was beautiful. The acting was good. If this movie has difficulty being successful I imagine it would be because of 2 reasons. First unless you are focused on listening, the South African dialect was difficult to hear or understand at times. Secondly it would be because many Americans do not understand the game of Rugby, myself being one of them. However, that wasn't as impactful as understanding what was being said at times. I will want to see it again when it comes out on DVD so I can use subtitles. It was very well made. Overall I did enjoy the movie.

"Invictus" is a powerful film, detailing the efforts of Nelson Mandela to unite the South African people after he became President. I had always admired this man, but did not know how brilliant he was in utilizing the country's rugby team to bring his people together by calling upon their national pride in their sports team.
Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon were brilliant in their portrayals of the two primary protagonists. All of the other actors in the film gave solid, believable performances. I particularly admired the portrayals of Mandela's security staff. Excellent film: well worth seeing!

Did not have much of an idea about what this movie was about before going. I did know that it starred Morgan Freeman & Matt Damon ... and it was directed by Clint Eastwood. That provided enough pedigree to get me into a theater seat. These talented actors & director, once again, do not disappoint. Freeman seems born to play Nelson Mandela. Matt Damon transforms himself into the captain of the South African Rugby team. Both are amazing! You can tell how good an actor is when you forget their star persona and you only see the character they are portraying ,,, and this metamorphosis occurs here. A nearly perfect movie about redemption and the power of Amazing Grace! See Invictus in a theater for the full rewards it offers.

Very good movie, the fact that it is based on true story makes it even better. It seems like they could have made the movie move a little faster. It seemed to drag on but Morgan Freeman did such an outstanding job that he made the slow pace worth the movie. Bottom line: worth seeing.

Predictable story line however the cinematography and soundtrack moved it along nicely. Matt is a hunk as always.
