As a former rugby player, it was great to see the sport gets its due in the movies and the rugby scenes had a tremendous sense of realism to them. More importantly, Eastwood's showing how the sport brought two long-standing factions in South Africa together-even for a moment-was inspirational.
Excellent acting by Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. I hope this movie brings them and Clint Eastwood Oscars for one of the best pictures for 2009.

My entire family enjoyed this movie. It was nice to get a little history, even if it is Hollywood's version, and be completely entertained. The tension of the situation was felt by the audience, yet my children weren't exposed to violence on screen. It was a great feel-good movie.

This film was a beautiful portrait of Mandela, who was able to combine grace, intelligence, and wisdom to accomplish his mission of uniting disparate groups of people. The scenes at Robbin Island were especially touching. Morgan Freeman should receive many awards for this role, and Matt Damon was terrific as well. I did not think that this film dragged as some others reported. I was transfixed the whole time, and I even got into the rugby matches, which for a person who doesn't pay attention to sports events (not even the Packers!), was surprising! I have already recommended it to several friends, because it is a very well done film, and it has lessons for all of us.

To a viewer not at an age of awareness during this time period, Mandela's persona and the maelstrom that was South Africa will be lost. The film has heart and a first rate cast, but it is too slow and too cursory of the context in which the story takes place. I would recommend it as a rental.

This is a superb movie that shows how Nelson Mandela brought two South Africas together - there are some real lessons to be learned. Morgan Freeman was superb and Clint Eastwood deserves kudos for his directing. I am also pleased that so many South Africans were used in the casting and that much of the shooting took place on location. Strongly recommend this movie.

Movie was slow moving and more of a rugby movie than a story about apartheid. The rugby scenes were way too long and violent. The actual story of Nelson Mandela was sidelined by the rugby and showed him as only one dimensional. If you don't know the story of Nelson Mandela and apartheid, you will leave knowing very little more. Not bad for a later rental but not worth the full movie price.

Although it was a bit slow to start, this movie was a real winner. The history was fascinating, the characters well portrayed, the cinematography stunning. Clint Eastwood proves he is a master in this production. Morgan Freeman is great as Mandela and Matt Damon is very convincing in his role. I found myself on the edge of my seat quite a few times, and although the movie was over 2 hours long, I was sad to see it end. Go see it!

Another entry in the long line of films about down-on-their-luck teams finding inspiration in their attempt to achieve championships, but Invictus has some nice character portrayals that lift it above the level of most of the genre. Morgan Freeman stands out as a very convincing Nelson Mandela. Cast because of his resemblance to Mandela (more so than other actors), he also brings some acting chops to the role. Matt Damon won't be remembered for this role as he is very quiet. There are some nice minor characters, in particular Adjoa Andoh who I've seen on the Dr. Who series. One lasting memory will be the little kids who are joyous to see their heroes and celebrate as much or more than the adults.

I do agree that Morgan Freeman was born for this role. I thought it was Matt Damon's easiest role until I saw how tough those rugby matches could be. It's a keeper!

Invictus was a thoroughly enjoyable movie. Freeman was outstanding and should win all awards this year.
The character deveoplment was realistic and touched your heart as the movie went on. Since the plot was based on a true story, it had enough intrigue for two movies and ended wonderfully.

Morgan Freeman played his roll perfectly. It was very touching how he made everything come to life and make you want South Africa to succeed.
