This movie was a huge disappointment for anyone who has read the book. The ending is completely different, which changes everything. Jodi Picoult had a message in her novel, and that was totally lost when this film was made. I couldn't believe how much was left out, and then when you get to the ending and realize what the directors did to totally kill any semblance to the real novel..well I walked out. I just kept thinking it was a joke..and then when realizing it was not..just left. It totally was one of the most dissatisfying movies I have viewed to date.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I have not read the book so my thoughts are on the movie as a movie. Outstanding acting, good character development, interesting story which was well constructed by the director. The movie could have turned into a fast spiral into depression for the audience, but the reflections back in time to interesting and humorous situations worked to prevent that. Having said that, this movie could have been an important film but falls short. It stood at the door of important issues but never explored these in any depth. I found it hard to believe the mother could be that self-absorbed and unreflective. I recomend this for women and couples on a date. Guys, if Transformers is sold out, don't see this instead.

What happened to at least keeping to part of the book. The entire ending was wrong! I feel that the author sold out to Hollywood to go with a Hollywood ending. How disappointed I was I just sat at the end of the movie upset because that wasn't the story at all nor did they show the relationship that the lawyer had with the judge. And the brother didn't have his pyro tendencies at all. Well I guess the movie would have been ok if I had not read the book. So what does that tell you.

Good acting, touching story, but nothing like the book. The main theme of the book was completely lost. The book was a compelling, thought-provoking story about a family that is torm appart because a mother becomes so obsessed with saving one of her children that she disregards the needs of the rest of the family. It also makes the reader think about the ethics involved in "designer babies", and ends with a twist. Because of the movie's many omissions as well as a complete change in the ending, the movie was nothing more than a tear jerking chick-flick. Very disappointing. I only recommend watching the movie if you have NOT read the book and feel like crying over a predictable plot.

This was a great story, even though a contrast to the book. It was so very real in so many ways that it becomes a truly emotional tug. We all know someone who has or will die this way. When it becomes too hard to deal with the real issue, focus on the characters -- there are great roles in this story played by some exceptional actors.

This is the most emotionally brutal movie I have ever seen. I HAVE NEVER CRIED in a movie before. I had to put my head in my husbands chest to keep the whole theatre hearing my bawl my head off. Afterwards I went to the ladies room and can tell you I was not the only one in there blowing my nose from a full all out bawl. I have never done that in my entire life. During the scene where the family is in her hospital room right before she sends them all away so she can be alone with her mom, all I could think about was I could not possibly deal with this type of loss.
This is the best movie I never want to see again. (For obvious emotional reasons).

I found the movie to be very moving and satisfying. Standing alone from the original story, this movie holds up on its own. The performances by the young actors are impressive.
After I saw the movie I read a summary of the original story. I think that they could have told the story the way it was originally written, and it would have been as good or even better. Yes, the movie would have been longer, but it would have been even more meaningful to see the journey of father and son, more depth into the lawyers life, and the tragic ending which was completely different in the movie.
I recommend this movie. It's good to cry sometimes.

I read this book and was astounded. But when I saw the movie, I was disappointed in a large way. There was no focus on Jesse or the parents ignorance on the fact that Anna was suing her parents and why. And to change the ending was horrendous. It gives the entire story more meaning and creates something powerful that the movie just totally lost. They kept the thin, on-the-surface plot line that created a very disappointing movie.

I went to this movie on my birthday and it was a complete letdown. They totally changed characters' ages and personalities, left out some characters, and COMPLETELY changed the ending, which ruined the entire thing. Cameron Diaz was not a very good choice for this film. If you didn't read the book, absolutely go see the movie and bring tissues. But if you did read the book, don't go. It ruined the entire story. Definitely not a good movie. I wish I hadn't gone.

What could have been a great movie based on the book by Jodi Picoult was a disappointment to me. Great acting by Breslin and Vassilieva as young girls with adult issues. Baldwin and Cusack display their usual good acting. Diaz is barely believeable as the mother tortured by her child's illness who becomes a zealot to save her regardless of consequences. The change to the end was a major mistake in my book. The original ending provided not only a major plot twist but some kind of meaning to the story. Not showing the turmoil of the oldest son was also a major mistake as it provided an important view into the issues of focusing all on one child at the expense of the family unit. Overall, okay, but could have been much better.

My very sensitive girlfriend dragged me to this film and I was crying like an idiot near the end. Why? Well, because the entire theater was in tears and it...seemed like the thing to do. All kidding aside, the young actors in this film are outstanding. This is a movie about death and dying, and the terrible choices people have to make when they're faced with terminal illnesses. BTW, I didn't think Cameron Diaz was very good, but the young actors and Alec Baldwin were outstanding.

I thought this was a great movie but really really sad. There were not too many times where I wasn't crying. The actors were great, Cameran Diaz played a great part and as usual Abigail Breslin was wonderful. The actress who played Kate did a much better job acting in this movie then she does in the show Medium. I will be honest when I saw it was her playing the leading role I was a little dissapointed but she did great. One suggestion..bring lots of tissues! I went with two people who saw the book, one was not happy with the ending because they changed it and the other said they liked this ending better. Go see it if you are in the mood for a tear jerker.

First off, I didn't read the book but know it ended differently. It took every ounce of courage I could muster to see this movie. My 14 year old daughter died of cancer last year. I can't speak to the accuracy of the legal proceedings in this movie, but the portrayal of what the children and families fighting cancer go through - treatments, side effects physically and emotionally - are completely realistic. Everyone should see this movie and realize this is not just a Hollywood production - what you see on the screen is happening to kids every day.

I ended up liking this movie quite a bit! It wasn't as tear jerking as I thought until the end but I suppose I'm thankful for that...because crying in public is not my forte'. The only real problem I had with the movie was the kissing scene between kate & taylor....it lasted WAYYY TOOO LONG! hahaha everyone in the theatre started getting fidgety...and I even heard some giggles towards the end of it. One lady even said outloud, "What is she....13?" Other than that...good movie! I'd recommend it.

I read the book so my expectations were really high for this movie. I know it was only based on the book, but there was so much that was integral to the storyline that was left out and the ending was terrible. I still enjoyed the movie though. There were some great performances from all the actors. I thought it was too bad that they didn't get more involved with Jesse's story.

I loved this movie for the tear-jerker it is. Beautiful performances by all actors, especially Kate, the sick sister. Abigail Breslin is awesome and meant for much bigger things, she will be Meryl Streep of this generation. If you need a good cry, or simply enjoyed the book - go to see this beautiful execution of Jodi Piccoult's popular novel.

For anyone who has read this book and is as in love with it as I am, this movie won't live up to your expectations. it is still very good and I cried through the whole movie but did not follow the book very well. the movie was a tear jerker and the characters (especially kate, who had the biggest smile always regardless of her situation) were all believable. however, as someone who read the book years ago and enjoyed it thoroughly i could not believe the change in ending and how absolutely different from the book it was. at the end i sat there and just couldnt get over how ruined the movie was for me from the noticeable and horrific change. if you have read the book and enjoyed it go see this movie at a six dollar time or wait for dvd.
